Yeah, because this fight can go so many ways. On paper, I really don’t think either fighter is the clear cut winner.

Lyoto has more ways to win. There is only one scenario where Rampage wins.

I think

A lot of people are counting rampage out of this one. I like lyoto, but I am not sure if he can beat rampage.

guilty as charged. i’ll actually be looking forward to king mo’s tweet after ufc118

I’m not counting Rampage out. You can’t ever count out a guy with his power. But I don’t like his chances.

by Steve4192 on Aug 23, 2010 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions

care to expand on that?

what tools is lyoto missing that all the other people that have beat rampage have had? or, what does Rampage have that all those who lost to Lyoto didnt?

Moisture is the essence of wetness.

i'm interested

i thought the few punches rashad landed on machida, had they been rampages, would have dropped machida. at the same time i wonder if rampage is fast enough.

by silent.bisonte33 on Aug 23, 2010 10:16 AM EDT reply actions

Not that interesting of a match up IMO

Rampage is slow and predictable, Lyoto will pick him apart.

by Syncro on Aug 23, 2010 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions

I say Lyoto wins by chopping away at Rampage’s legs and frustrating the crap out of him by darting in and out of the pocket rather than standing and exchanging.

by Steve4192 on Aug 23, 2010 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Rampage really needs to get the hell away from the Wolfslair.

They are continuing the specialization that Juanito started and Rampage is morphing into a one dimensional brawler. He needs to go to a camp that will force him to rediscover his complete game rather than allowing him to continue to specialize.

What happened to the guy who out wrestled Hendo at UFC 75? Hendo would kick the crap out of the current version of Rampage.

by Steve4192 on Aug 23, 2010 10:20 AM EDT reply actions

He doesn’t need to evolve.

He needs to devolve back to his late-Pride / early-UFC form while holding onto a few of his striking improvements.

by Steve4192 on Aug 23, 2010 10:25 AM EDT up reply actions

I see what you're saying.

But Rampages heart isn’t even in the MMA game anymore. He’s only fight because he is contractually obligated too. If it were up to Rampage he wouldn’t even be fighting anymore.

by ThaBEAST on Aug 23, 2010 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions

He’s not obligated to fight, though if he does fight, he is obligated to fight for the ufc. He can retire whenever he wants. I’m sure he likes the money.

by kanodogg on Aug 23, 2010 10:37 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

i'm a pretty big 'page hater

but this is silly:

Hendo would kick the crap out of the current version of Rampage.

by fuzzy wuzzy on Aug 23, 2010 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Rampage had to do a lot of wrestling in that Hendo fight. I’m not sure he could pull that off anymore.

by Steve4192 on Aug 23, 2010 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Rampage will be at big bear for this camp. Let’s hope he gets rid of the yes men and brings back some competence into his training.

He was so crisp in his early UFC days. He’s looked like shit since the forrest griffin fight. Even with the Wand KO and Jardine fight he looked sloppy as shit compared to his old self.

He needs to get back to that old “crisp” Rampage.

rampage is training in califonia for this fight he left wolfslayer after the evans fight

Otriz V. Machida Pt 2

If Machida has learned his lesson and follows the game plan that gave him a 15 – 0 record he should dissect an extremely frustrated Rampage.

Except That

Rampage has better hands than Ortiz. That and he’d never throw up a triangle choke. Not that I expected Ortiz to.

by Armleglegarm Head on Aug 23, 2010 12:22 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

true enough. I really don’t imagine I’ll see anything all that dynamic from Rampage. It seems to be a common enough feeling that he has not nor will he likely ever evolve. But this is MMA. No telling.

I don’t see how Rampage can win this. He’s much slower than Rashad……and neither one of them looked very good in their last fight. I say Machida destroys him.

by Jaxxen77 on Aug 23, 2010 12:24 PM EDT reply actions

I believe Rampage is severely overhyped

He nearly lost to Jardine, he had nothing for Rashad, and Forrest made him look silly at times. He fought a much-smaller Henderson to what was basically draw. What are his best wins? A KO of Chuck, a KO of Wanderlei. Everyone’s kicked Chuck’s ass, and as much as I love Wanderlei, he moves like a tinman these days and there are gaping holes in his striking.

In summation: long live the Dragon.

"You hear people say, 'You're the greatest,' and all this stuff. It's BS. It's fake, it's all fake. You've just got to keep training as hard as you can. The only thing real is the fight, everything else is fake." - BJ Penn

hold up

how did rampage almost lose to jardine? what u mean everybody whooped chuck ass? back when rampage fought him chuck was whooping everybody. i cant help but laught at the bitter ass wanderlei fans hollering he was out of his prime, he was coming of a win when he fought rampage and he got knocked out.. this dude trying to make it look like rampage aint beat nobody important..

by stayreal on Aug 23, 2010 2:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Your name is apropos

Revisionist history on beating Chuck. The fight with Forrest was close. Clear wins over Hendo and Jardine, a demon-exorcising KO of Wanderlei. I’ll give you the Rashad fight, but Page still damn near KO’d him.

Rampage has good stand up. And he has a good chin

and when his left/right hook touches machidas chin, machida is going to sleep.

End of story.

End of post.

“when his left/right hook touches machidas chin”

That is the whole problem with Machida. Love or hate, he’s hard to hit.
