Nick Diaz vs TBA further degrades the belt
If there isn’t a number one contender and it doesn’t matter who he fights, what is he really the champion of?
It will end up being........
Nick Diaz Vs. Edge in a Table…ladders and chairs match. That would be grrrrreat. Strikeforce is terrible.

Seriously, who s there for Diaz to fight at 170 in Strikeforce?
Is it going to be a rematch with Joe Riggs? Galvao maybe?
Those are the only guys I can think of in that weight class aside from the prospects who are fighting on the Challengers shows.
He will
The first 30 people to show up to the event. Then he will fight Jeff hardy In ladder match over a shark tank. Damn I miss shark week.

Well KJ Noons mentioned the other night that he wants to fight Diaz
Presumably that would be at 170. I wouldn’t mind seeing that rematch, KJ certainly got the better of him the last time.. but yah, other than him, I dunno.
What I’d really like is for Diaz to man up and face Mayhem though! At a catchweight of 178 or something. Don’t be scared homie..

Galvao is a potentially scary opponent for him. Cyborg would guarantee violence.

Strikeforce
loves giving fighters coming off losses a title shot.
@fjbar on twitter...formerly El Mexicutioner
At this point Strikeforce is no longer trying to be the UFC
They’re aiming for something below UWC. MXC maybe?. Between banned substances between rounds, brawls after fights, and a title fight scheduled without an opponent, they’re aiming for low rent. That’s without mentioning that they set up fights to protect their stars and then fuck that up.
I don’t know how Coker looks himself in the mirror.

Fights for Diaz
Riggs- who holds a decision win over him in the UFC
Cyborg- Because it would be an awesome standnbanger
*Signing Paul Daley
Noons, who holds TKO (cut) win over Diaz
possibly sign Hornbuckle? does Bellator have exclusive contracts?
Even when I'm laying on my back I'm never backing down
Also, Ben Saunders, who recently got released from the UFC

I think Noons or Riggs are the most realistic options.. I feel like Cyborg should have to get another win first, but yah it would probably be an entertaining fight. Daley and Hornbuckle seem kind of far away, also I’d probably want to see Daley get a win before Diaz fight (maybe vs Cyborg?)
Also Mayhem Miller, that wouldn’t be at 170 of course, but it’s a fight I want to see. If it has to be 170, I’d go with Noons.
by Horselover Fat on Aug 23, 2010 10:31 AM EDT up reply actions
Diaz won’t give Noons the fight because Noons wouldn’t give him a rematch for the title in XC.

my particular fav idea would be the Saunders fight
but i don’t know if Saunders would want to possibly ruin his chances of getting back in the UFC by fighting for SF

What, he has said that? If that’s the case, seems kind of silly. Especially considering how extremely shallow SF 170 division is.
That being said, I sure wouldn’t mind seeing Noons vs Melendez either, if Diaz/Noons isn’t happening.

Mayhem can’t make 170 anymore. He barely made it versus GSP and he has filled out quite a bit since then.
yeah, if its with Mayhem it can’t possibly be for the belt. it still is the most intriguing fight they have, with the bad blood and in terms of competition

Unfortunately for Strikeforce Zuffa took the best dates in october relative to the EA MMA launch (which is october 19th). What a co inky dink :)
Now They’re shooting for Dec 4th? that’s not gonna do it. If the EA MMA launch is weak (which is very likely) those potential advertising dollars will disappear by december.
They needed to go guns a blazin in october… done everything in their power to get Gina back, Fedor, etc… In the hopes of getting back on CBS and eating up as much of that EA advertising money as possible.
Showtime is now trying to salvage the time slot by pushing boxing onto CBS instead of MMA. Looks like somebody has given up….
toodles.
Strikeforce needed to stay on CBS but they fucked it up with that atrocious card they put together for a network show resulting in disastrous ratings.
They should of done everything in their power for that one single objective and then moved on from there. If it meant signing Gina to a huge deal so be it.
Now their only hope is the EA MMA game doing gangbusters so a potential new sugar daddy emerges. The chances of that were weak to begin with but without a show on CBS it’s horrible.
CBS off the table… If the game does weak numbers EA is then off the table.
how do you convince showtime to continue funding this venture at that point?
hey logic
your idea about different weight classes for SF the other day was actually pretty good. Imagine 150, 165, 180, 195, and 210?
Or they could initiate some program, where, cogniscent of having a small roster, they pull a boxing move and have weighclasses every 5-10 pounds, so a fighter can be a multiple class champion, and they can use their smaller roster without having to do catchweights.
my two cents on your idea
Even when I'm laying on my back I'm never backing down

Pretty good??? homey I get grade A punani for my shit.
A super light weight, a super middleweight and a cruiserweight would have done the trick… even if Zuffa steals your best fighters they would be fighting in different weight classes leaving you with an evergreen vaccum.
Showtime could compete with 2nd tier UFC fighter pay but they cant and will never be able to compete with 1st tier so trying to make headway going head on was stupid.
They could have signed guys like Diego Sanchez, or Josh Koshcheck to be their #1 super lw’s and kept them. They signed Dan Hendo… #1 super middleweight right there.
I mean it’s a niche that could have been created and sustained. But they got bushleague heads over there. They dont know what the fuck they were doing and still dont.
If they would have done this 18 months ago it would have been hard for Zuffa to maneuver and deal with it. It’s too late now and everyday that passes they devolve further down the shit hole.
just give us Mayhem vs. Diaz at a catchweight plz
SF is basically a superfights promotion and I don’t think too many people even care about the titles and especially in this case; would rather see Diaz face Mayhem.
