Facing your "Mirs", where do Lashley and King Mo go from here?
February 2nd, 2008. UFC 81. Brock Lesnar made his UFC debut against a former UFC Champion and BJJ black belt Frank Mir in only his 2nd MMA fight ever. Lesnar touted a substantial amateur wrestling background winning an NCAA Division I wrestling title just eight years ago. While he knew he was ready for the big time, he stepped into the cage with an arena full of doubters. Unfortunately for Lesnar, he tapped out to Mir in 90 seconds after dominating for most of the fight. He was contrite after the loss, vowing to go back and "get on the horse". While many took those words as cliché fighter-speak, Lesnar was earnest. He got back in the gym, revitalized his training and stepped his game up. 19 months later, he was the UFC World Heavyweight Champion.
On Saturday's Strikeforce event, we saw two of the bigger names in the sport suffer their first taste of defeat inside the cage. Bobby Lashley, like Lesnar is a former WWE wrestler, lost by ref stoppage at the end of the 2nd round to Chad Griggs. "King" Mo Lawal, the former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion, also suffered defeat by losing his title to Rafael Cavalcante via TKO during the 3rd round. Where both men go from here is unknown, but it will determine their futures.

You could have made the tie-in stronger
Remember that Brock was controversially stood up while laying a beating on Mir, just like Lashley was in mount on Griggs. The standup gave Mir the opportunity to regroup and get another submission, and let Griggs attack a dehydrated Lashley before he got some water between rounds.
Maybe both fights still end the same way with better reffing. Maybe not…
I didn't want to actually draw parallels to the fights
It’s just a term that I have for people’s first losses. It’s their “Mir”. I used Lesnar/Mir because a) Brock used it to become champ in 10 months and b) Mir rhymes with a lot of shit.

For the love of all things good and right in this world, please stop!
If I have to read another article with you confessing your man-love for Brock Lesnar I am going to have to stab myself repeatedly in the face or worse yet; leave B.E. for Sherdog.

There is absolutely nothing in the title that would lead me to believe that this would be yet another public display of affection for Brock. I should have checked the author first. My bad.

Facing your "Mirs" and then the names of two prospects losing their first match
Doesn’t take a brain scientist to figure out.

This has nothing to do with Brock lesnar really
It’s called tying in.
Can you think of other prospects who lost a fight and used it to make themselves better and succeed? Not too many, if any.

Everyone thought I was nuts for putting Brilz and Bader over Lawal
I feel vindicated. Mo’s top twenty and was never top ten.

Brilz? I wouldn't go that far.
Bader I’ll agree with though. Same with Jones, since he would have finished Mousasi in that fight while Mo seemed confused about what to do after a takedown.
Honestly, I think Brandon Vera beats King Mo. Then again, I value Vera higher than most.

I don’t think Mo could last three rounds with Lil Nog, let alone arguably win a decision and almost finish with a sub.

I think Lil Nog came into that fight looking like ass
and I also think that King Mo would beat Elliot Marshall. I’m still skeptical on Brilz. Something didn’t seem right with Rogerio that night.
I think Bader vs. Mo is a great fight, especially if Rogerio wins. Mo is clearly the better credentialed wrestler, but Bader may be better suited for MMA and is more confident striking. Both have fight ending power and two rounds of solid gas before they fade. Interesting bout between prospects.

Can’t disagree with any of that – although a lot of people thought the Marshall decision was bullshit.

Is it just me...
or is it kind of sad to be promoting your posts on another website in the fanposts of BE? I wasn’t going to say anything, but I just read SC’s comments on a watchkalibrun fanpost bragging about how people read his articles and then leave and that makes him so awesome (paraphrase). Maybe they read and leave cuz its not impressive enough look around the site?

It's actually a common practice.
I certainly wouldn’t have done it if I hadn’t seen someone else do it. Usually, I’ll post the whole thing here.
And I wasn’t “bragging”, I was directly responding (in a tongue in cheek manner, hence the “LOL”) to a comment. It wasn’t a serious exchange.
Get it right.
