Strikeforce 'Houston' Results: K.J. Noons Crushes Jorge Gurgel in Second Round Stoppage
We thought it was going to be a slugfest. It was all too predictable.
Noons took the center of the cage early, but it was Gurgel who scored the first few blows both high and low, with punches and kicks. Noons, however, was able to work the body in the early parts of the first round. Noons also seemed to have a much better sense of distance. With roughly a minute left in the first, the pace slowed somewhat as Noons refused to create a wild brawl. Gurgel attempted both a bad shot and a flying knee, but ate two vicious body shots from Noons. The end of the round, however, was marred by a monster rising left hook from Noons AFTER the bell that dropped Gurgel badly. Gurgel appeared to eventually recovered, but looked stunned and bewildered.
Round two opened with Noons nailing Gurgel with a vicious combo that dropped him again. Noons followed up and with a feeble attempt at a stoppage from the referee, Noons landed an illegal knee. There is a question of whether the knee was thrown before or after the referee clearly made an attempt to stop the fight.
The fight was stopped 19 seconds in the second round.

Should be a NC
The hook at the end of the first was clearly late. You can see Gurgel starting to relax once he hears the bell and Noons followed through with that nasty hook. He should’ve been DQ’d.

Maybe it should be a dq
But that doesn’t change the fact that’s noons was winning the whole fight even before the hook at the end of round 1.

So sad... Horrible reffing...
Three things:
1. The punch after the bell in round 1, while not intentional, should have given Gurgel 5 minutes to recover. If he couldn’t continue (which I believe he couldn’t) it should have been ruled a no contest.
2. The ref should have stopped the fight after Gurgel got dropped. Noons did show great sportsmanship by not “wanting” to pummel Jorge after he knew he wasn’t in the fight.
3. The knee/shin strike Noons threw was totally intentional and 100% illegal…and it was after the ref had already stopped the fight.
BUT THE WORST PART…was Shamrock saying that the knee wasn’t illegal. I mean the guy is laying on his back, gets kicked/kneed in the skull and your MMA “expert”, Shamrock can’t even explain the rules to the audience?
As silly as it sounds, the only reason to watch SF is the fights…the production is crap, the announcers are uneducated, the crowd boos everything and doesn’t seem to care. So sad…the moral of the story? Don’t sell your soul to Showtime or the Russian Mafia.
Boo. Boo. Boo.

Such BS !!!!!
Gurgel needs to sit down and realize that his BBJ belt is more than a thing to hold up his pants.
"I was not impressed by your performance"
Brazilian Biujitsu belt?
Nah just joking I agree, I get he wants to be exciting but he wont be fighting in the big shows for long doing that
Tell that to Chris Lytle...
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
Chris is exciting AND he wins
Gurgel’s only halfway there.
Also, Lytle has some sick submissions to his name, he hasn’t foregone the ground game entirely.
I have no problem with the reffing job.....
Its consistent with about 90 % of all referees in today’s mma. The rules have become vague and referees are having problems even with the basics (Lashely Stand up ????) I’m stilling waiting for someone to fix it.
"I was not impressed by your performance"
You can debate the knee all you want,
but these half-assed attempts by the ref to stop the fight, which results in the attacking fighter not being sure whether or not he should continue, are just awful.
Refs who are that indecisive about stoppages should have their licenses taken away.
Yeah, that is illegal...
no matter what the ref is doing or not doing.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
It looked cheap the first time around but it looks to be pretty week almost to flip him over.

From this view it looked like Noons was trying to kick the body.
I didn’t see the fight live but did any other shots clearly show it was a knee/shine to the head?

On the broadcast they review it numerous times...
with the crew concluding it was illegal…but the SF commenting team that really doesn’t prove anything.

he knee lands on Gurgel's left hand, not his head
watch it again from the side angle. and the foot connects with his chest
looked legit to me
Who's the only one here who knows illegal ninja moves from the government?
Lets not play that game...
just because Gurgel’s hand happens to fall between Noons knee and Gurgel’s face doesn’t make it a legal knee.
Noons flat out threw an illegal blow.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
no, let's play that game
i’m just saying check the replay from a different view than overhead and behind the ref (who did in fact suck).
i watched it in slow-mo several times. not sure if i can upload it but i can tell you where u can see it on the telecast…if anyone really cares
Who's the only one here who knows illegal ninja moves from the government?
Noons is too use to fighting in Japan and Hawaii
Where that’s legal. Didn’t matter anyway tho, Noons already whooped that ass
That should have been a fucking disqualification.

Shouldn't something be done about the illegal knee?
Why would Noons even risk throwing it when he had JG out? He could have got DQ’d in a fight he was for sure gonna win. Kinda dumb if you ask me. Also the fans don’t like it.
