Jay Hieron Says He Finally Got Released From Strikeforce, Is He Returning to the UFC?
Jay Hieron (19-4), who has had some issues with Strikeforce, says that he's officially been released from the promotion. He tweeted:
"I finally got my release from SF... Y'all know what I'm about to do!!!!!!!"
"I have been threw a lot of Shit this past year but I have trained the whole time. So all WWs take notice I'm coming for somebodys head..."
The former IFL champ has won 7 straight fights, and 9 of his last 10, but he hasn't fought since January, when he beat Joe Riggs -- in the undercard of Strikeforce: Miami. Shortly after he completed his contract on that last fight, there have been lots of mumblings of his desire to get back in the UFC. So I'm guessing "Ya'll know what I'm about to do!!!!!!" doesn't mean he's excited to start fighting at King of the Cage.
If he does make his return to the UFC shark tank though, there would certainly be a lot of potentially interesting bouts that could be forged for the #14 Ranked Welterweight.

Good
And if by “had some issues with” you meant “been completely lied to by”, I agree completely.
Between Jay Hieron and Jake Shields, Strikeforce has arguably cut it’s best 350 or so pounds of fighter in the last month.

I mean I know Fedor lost and everything, but now he’s worse than Jay Hieron?

good for him
the way he’s been handled by SF has been one of its biggest failures IMO.

To bad, Strikeforce could have really used Hieron...
and after a couple of bouts in the UFC’s WW division, he might have wished they did too.
But who knows, he may make a real run and do some damage.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
Which Promotion is so stupid to pay him that kind of money?
Strikeforce. It’s not that much more than they were paying him already.

Which was a mistake on their part already.
The WW Division just changed from a year ago.
SF brought Hieron in to be Diaz’s opponent in a title fight for Carano/Cyborg.
Within the last year the Division improved.
The arrival of Woodley,Saffiedine and Bowling brought them much needed Talent.
Zaromskis had also become available for them.
If i was Coker i would also rather use the Hieron money for Paul Daley, too
Which makes it so much dumber on their part that they didn’t use him on tv or actually do the fight with Diaz(or at least cut the guy free in January). Tyron Woodley is a prospect, Tarec Saffiedine is a prospect, Roger Bowling is a prospect and Marius Zaromskis is 0-2 in Strikeforce and probably should be fighting at 155lbs. Jay Hieron is a former champion who hasn’t lost since June of 2007. Not that much changed from a year ago when they signed him, their prospects are still just prospects and the only title fight that makes any sense now for Nick Diaz is still Diaz vs Hieron. Oh and that they are dicking over Joe Riggs too, that hasn’t changed in the last year either.
What doesn’t make sense is that they booked Hieron vs Riggs for his last fight. Why derail an easily marketable fight (Diaz/Riggs)? There wasn’t another 170lb fighter available?
by John Nash on Aug 21, 2010 12:50 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Both of those fights were marketable, the Riggs rematch is one that has been brewing for years now. I doubt we will ever get to see that one either.

Who's left in Strikeforce's 170-pound division?
We Have:
A Pothead
An Overhyped Lituanian
Joe Riggs
And Cyborg’s Sex Toy
It is mind boggling to me
That Strikeforce neglected Jay like they did. Their WW champion is arguably their most marketable, yet SF can’t seem to give him any credible fights at his own weightclass. Now their best bet for making a compelling title fight heads to the UFC and Nick Diaz gets to fight Scott Smith and Mayhem for the rest of his career.

That little shit weasel Pavia got him to sign a deal with a 1 year matching period and delivered very little of what strikeforce supposedly promised him.
The market continues to fix this crap… Market forces brothers… Market forces.
Surrounding all the nonsense of Jake leaving being somehow good for Coker and Co because “he’s not a draw”… an important underlying realitiy was being missed and that is:
Shields leaving was more of a reflection of Strikeforce not being able to monetize their best fighter regardless of being a draw or not… demonstrating again the reality of Strikeforce being a gimmick promotion. No matter what kind of draw or non-draw you are the best athletes in their respective sports are monetized in the NFL, MLB, NBA and UFC. Strrikeforce like the harlem globe trotters needs gimmicks like Cung Le, hershal walker, Batista, etc…
Market forces can be a bitch sometimes and no champ clause will fix this problem for Strikeforce… unless they can comparatively monetize and therefore competitively pay the best fighters in the sport the champ clause will be nothing more than trying to place a balloon on a fire hose. That thing is gonna pop if the balloon isnt strong enough and even if it is (having very resitictive contracts) you’re gonna stop the flow of water (new fighters will opt not to sign it, existing fighters will opt not to fight for a belt, etc… thus making their existing champs less relevant) . Market forces brothers… Market forces,
Regarding gimmicks, Zuffa understood long ago (which pride failed to understand) that you cant compete with pro-wrestling in the gimmick and freak show business. No matter what, the WWE will always be able to out gimmick you, out freak show you and out choreograph you… so it’s a futile battle.
Zuffa understood that the WWE couldnt compete with the “realism” and the “sport” that could be MMA so the focus and the UFC was built on a foundation consisting of primarily the unique attributes of MMA that others couldnt compete with. That’s why the UFC didnt become a novelty which fizzled away like the pet rock. And that’s why the UFC continues to grow.
(focus on being the best at your inherent strengths instead of trying to be second best at someone else’s inherent strengths… Master your terrain instead of trying to minor in someone elses… Be an original by focusing on building the attributes unique to you rather than being a poor copy of someone else’s forte… eat a pussy a day to keep the docter away… err, you get what I mean – his gimmick shit aint gonna cut it)
Over a year ago I said UFC would add new weight classes… in truth that was the only way Showtime could have created a sustainable business model for themselves thus measures had to be taken to preempt this (or seemingly preempt it until the flank could be properly protected).
Imagine if they threw away the UFC weight classes and instead only had a super LW (162lb), Super MW (195lb) and a Cruiser weight (230lb). Automatically they would have the top 10 fighters in 3 divisions (in addition to the female divisions), not have to directly compete with the UFC for relevancy, resulting in a roster that’s more feasible to maintain, and instantly become a 1st tier league,
I thought someone would be smart enough to come up with this and move quickly enough to make it difficult for Zuffa to react at the time. You could have even raised 9 figures with this business model.
But alas, we are dealing with idiots and once again an illustration is demonstrated that Zuffa owns all the real IQ in this business.
on a side note:
Jay being ranked #14 while Nick Diaz ranked #5 further illustrates the incompetence of the MMA media.

Hey buddy
when can I attend the book signing for the novel you just wrote?
Matt Hughes has some serious "mentally challenged" strength applying a choke to Ricardo Almeida’s neck strong enough to squeeze a turd out of his other end.

I was wondering how he was just now getting his release if his last contracted fight for Strikeforce was in Jan. So the 1 year matching period explains that. Thank you.
Kinda sucks that Strikeforce held him in limbo 7 months before releasing him after delivering on almost nothing he was promised there. I guess that is what you get for signing a contract with a 1 year matching period.
Just BE.
EliteXC had a 160 lightweight class and no one bought it because it was a joke. If Strikeforce introduced new weight classes they would be met with disdain.

is fucking HOT!!! Sexy as Latina. He’s a cool guy I met him and his GF………..not sure if he would do so well in the UFC. He really hasn’t fought any solid comp. My guess he will be headed to Bellator then maybe UFC later if he can rack up some good wins.
I did not know that
