Brock Lesnar's BJJ Coach Talks Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos

"Of course I will not be able to anticipate what the strategy used by (Cain) Velasquez will be, but I see Cain trying to use his physical attributes, because he has a very good gas and I believe will be fighting the whole time, will punch, will move, kick, doing it all ... Maybe he will try a single leg on the outside, I suppose that is the strategy of Velasquez."
"It is obvious that he can come with a surprise and so can we. He's a more complete fighter than (Shane) Carwin."
"I think we have to take one step at a time. I saw the fights of the Gypsy (Junior Dos Santos) and I think he is a good athlete, he will no way be bad on the floor because he does jiu-jitsu for some time and trains with the Nogueira brothers and Demian [Maia], he is certainly not a fool on the floor," was his assessment.
"Gypsy has heavy hands, is very strong, and in time we will review it thoroughly. The UFC has the best heavyweights in the world and Brock knows that… The level is very high and whoever is coming in brings pressure. Everybody wants to beat Brock, who is the champion."

Cain's best chance
is to “Frankie Edgar” Brock.
As for JDS, I think Cain is a bigger threat than he.

i disagree
JDS’s power and striking can potentially give brock fits, his striking is very lacking and if dos santos can stay on his feet for any period of time brock will be in trouble
cain however has nothing over brock, he doesnt hit hard enough to stop brock, his standup besides for one punch on a fading noguiera has never impressed me, and his cardio is being overblown brock has excellent cardio and wont get outlasted by cain, i think the champ connects early and often on cain and looks real dominant

ive been wrong all year
i actually predicted the entire main card of ufc 114 wrong (one of my more epic fails) it wouldnt shock me if i was here, im just goin out on a limb and saying brock dominates, from what ive seen of him and what ive seen of cain i think brocks mma wrestling is far superior and i think cain wont be able to take the punishment he receives from brocks hammerfists
it pisses me off when people know everything about fights that havent happened yet im making a guess based on what ive seen just as everyone else is doing, noones prediction is ever wrong until after the fight

I think Brock beats both guys
But I think Cain’s standup will pose the biggest problem for Brock . Velasquez may not be the biggest power puncher in the Division but I think if he somehow wins it will be by rocking Brock with a punch then rushing in a doing what Carwin couldn’t
so then Dad goes and turns the knife on her .. then he turns to me and sez ........................................... Why so Serious ??

cain has no power in his hands
im gonna say the ko of nog was a fluke, we’ve seen people take hundreds of shots from cain and take them with no problem and even stand up when getting punched cleanly in the face
brock just recently showed us his chin is make of solid granite i dont think cains pillowfists will take him out
We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!
Really ??? Cain has pillow hands ??? Cain has .....
….. TKO’d all but Kongo . He destroyed one of the best fighters in the business in Big Nog and owned the always game Ben Rothwell . I’ll call it now so no one can call me a bandwagoner …. Cain will beat Brock .

yea but he really finishes everyone (except nog) by a flurry of punches not by one that stuns them
hes a fast dude and throws a bunch of punches, but they’re not particularly powerful and definately not gonna be enough to stop brock
and i still think the nog ko was a fluke more than proof that cain has powerful hands
We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!
well umm....
if u go for mmath…then mir knocked out Big Nog also just like cain and we all know what happend to mir when he fought brock again…
i think since carwin was just as big as brock he could hold brock down and pound the crap outta him….Cain is about what 240lbs? no way can he out wrestle brock and no way can he knock him out standing either
just my 2 cents
freedomwatchonfox.com lp.org
that Rothwell fight
was pretty stupid. Ben was standing up when the fight got stopped and he immediately looked at the ref (Mazagatti, I believe) like he was a blooming idiot. If it was Maz, he’s right, of course, but to say he stomped Rothwell in is discrediting what actually happened. He was definitely winning the round, but Ben was clearly there and not anywhere near out. That fight is, in fact, where Velasquez got the pillow hands moniker from as he was punching Ben in the face repeatedly with little effect.

Is a TKO win any less than a KO?
He may not have knocked everyone out, but if somehow he manages to landed a flurry of punches on Brock unanswered and the ref was to stop the fight, would this also be a fluke? Lets be honest when Carwin had Brock on the ground and was pounding away, noone would have argued if the fight would have been stopped.
DAMN YOU LACTIC ACIDOSIS
Personally...
I’m baffled by the Cain love. I mean the guy is a top HW fighter, but the certainty of his victory and repeated idea that he is better than JDS just baffles.
Is there some string of amazing fights for Cain that I have missed? Outside of the KO of Nog, which in my opinion deserves some qualifying, he really hasn’t shown me much to declare him the easy victor over Brock or JDS.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
You could say the same thing ......
…… about Shane Carwin . Who has he beat ? He beat two overrated guys in Mir and Gonzaga .

You're out of your mind
If you think Frank Mir is not one of the best heavyweights on the planet. He got knocked out by Carwin (Shane has the best knock power in the industry), and got smothered by Lesnar (shocker). Somehow that makes him a name only?!? That is just foolish
He got a whole lot more than smothered by Brock

Don't be baffled by the Cain love
The 50% or so of hardcore MMA fans that, unfazed by the public’s clear interest in the guy, still hate Brock Lesnar will attach a great deal of “the next champion” hype to whomever Lesnar’s next opponent is. This will also make for eminently bettable lines for every Brock fight, even when he’s fighting a smaller version of himself.

Carwin had a much better chance of beating Lesnar
I hoped on that hype train and learned my lesson. I don’t see Cain or JDS giving brock much of a challenge at all

To me...
JDS is the real threat to Brock. He has Carwin like power, but with better striking skill. Pretty solid takedown defense and assumingly competent ground defense to possibly include submissions based on who he trains with.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
Wow...
I just don’t understand what fight everyone saw last. Brock Lesnar literally ran from Shane Carwin. I mean, did you guys see Brock’s standup? Did you see the fight at all?
I am a huge Lesnar fan, the guy was honestly frightening when I saw him at a WWF houseshow in 2003, and I remain a fan. But he is going to have a Chuck Liddell type fall very shortly. He’s going to be knocked out, more than a few times folks.
You cannot depend on magic and your opponent gassing to keep you from getting knocked out in 5 round fights, with no standup game! People talk about AS being exposed, NO body got exposed like Brock. He had his hand ups, beginning of the fight, got rocked, rocked, rocked, ran, fell, and stayed in the fetal position for like 3 minutes straight. That chin held up that time, but a la Chucky, eventually its not, and at 33, I doubt his standup is going to get leaps and bounds better than it now. He loses to Cain.

The only way Brock wins
is if Cain has one of his ugly shoes up his ass, if thats the case, we all know what Lesnar will do with it…
Does anyone else think Brock>Cain>JDS>Brock? I think Brock can out-wrestle Cain and survive on the feet and win the fight. But I think Cain takes down JDS and beats him up. But JDS KO’s Brock before he can get him down.
Any matchups between the three are awesome, awesome fights.

Carwin rocked Lesnar before he could attempt a takedown. JDS is a far, far better striker. Totally possible that he can do it.
Hard core MMA fan since UFC 99
Junior is a far less powerful striker than Carwin. Brock can take a few of those on the way in.
"Jesus, did somebody dip a baby in jalepenos?" - My Girlfriend
by Earl Montclair on Aug 21, 2010 4:25 AM EDT up reply actions
Less powerful, sure...
but powerful enough that I doubt the difference matters.
However, I think the fear of Carwin’s power was a real factor in the Lesnar / Carwin fight that may not be there if Lesnar ends up in the cage with JDS.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
Far less?
This is a meme that’s getting repeated a lot, but I don’t think it’s very well supported. The only information about how hard these guys hit comes from what they’ve done to their opponents, which has been virtually identical. JDS has been out of the first round only twice against Cro Cop and Nelson. Carwin has been out of the first only once against Brock. Both have a string of 1st round KO victories…including one against the same guy, Gonzaga.
JDS is the best striker in the division and has demonstrated knockout power in both hands, and against better guys than Carwin. I think it’s kind of silly to say he has “far less” punching power than…well than anyone alive really.
Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.
It looks to me...
admittedly as a total nonexpert…
that Carwin hits harder, but JDS is more accurate and still hits very hard
After seeing JDS against Nelson though, I worried about his gas tank
Junior is a far better striker. Once he lands once and rocks Lesnar, Lesnar can’t shoot for a takedown. You think Lesnar wouldn’t get rocked from a strong punch by JDS?
Hard core MMA fan since UFC 99
I am not saying he would not get rocked. JDS has the best technical boxing in the division. His one punch power is not near Carwin’s from what I have seen (Just look at their KO’s of Gonzaga. Carwin absolutely melted him with a short punch.) Junior will have to hit Brock with more than one punch to end his reign. Besides, Junior will not be able to open up so much on the feet like he could against everyone else he has fought because nobody he has fought really had the capability to hit a double on him like Brock will do.

Brock will run the table in the Heavyweight Division.
"Jesus, did somebody dip a baby in jalepenos?" - My Girlfriend
Wow...
I just don’t see how anybody could think this. He has never even defended the title, and people are calling him the GOAT. He has the worst standup in the division, and his next two opponents are strikers. He was a refs choice/ perspective away from being TKO’d in his last fight first round. Not a Brock hater, but objectively he is going to be knocked out.
He has defended the title. Twice.
I’m also pretty sure nobody is calling him the greatest ever.
Cain is a wrestler.

Are the reason Brock is gonna have (is already having) a great run in this sport. About as honest and legit a breakdown as you’d want from your jitz coach. Comprido being in Brocks ear and corner means bad things for the Heavyweight division.

It definitely is a winnable fight for Brock, but...
This will be the first time for Brock fighting a real heavyweight that is as fast as if not faster than him. Carwin is slow as fuck, Mir is’nt TOO fast, Herring is slow, but Cain has the same kind of speed and explosiveness that Brock does. It’ll be interesting to see how Brock deals with that.
As other have said though, KOing Nog at this stage of his career doesn’t impress me. Rothwell was getting up easily while Cain was dropping bombs on him. I HIGHLY doubt we’ll see Cain KO Brock on the feet.
