I have no idea who they will replace him with. Call up Okami on short notice?

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

DAMMIT

I really wanted Belcher to get a big name fight and climb the ladder. Maia may not be one of the top draws, but he’s definitely a “name,” at the top tier of the MW division.

I'm the best ever. You're the most average in a minute.

I'd be happy with

Belfort, Grove, or a middleweight debut for Rumble.

Or perhaps Dana can guarantee Okami a title shot if he takes this one on short notice?

i don’t like this idea of guranteeing guys title shots when there’s already someone in line. So much shit can happen. the whole Vitor situation is already ridiculous.

I agree for the most part,

but I’m also on the side of Vitor not really deserving his place in line yet without having fought at 185 in the UFC, so I’d be happier for Okami to get a guaranteed title shot first, and have Belfort fight the winner of Marquardt/Palhares while he waits.

by Scott Haber on Aug 2, 2010 9:56 AM EDT up reply actions

agree on Okami deserving it before Belfort. the whole idea of Belfort even getting a shot, and then not losing it when injured for this damn long, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. i mean, i know his impressive past, but that was back in the day, and he’s always been inconsistent anyways. the guys he’s beaten to establish himself as being “back” are also relics from a prior era, no offense to Rich Franklin, but Terry Martin and Matt Lindland, geez. end rant

I know what you mean, but he didn’t just beat those guys, he absolutely destroyed them.

You can’t deny that Vitor Belfort vs Anderson Silva sounds like one badass matchup regardless of vitor’s inconsistency.

by nastyem on Aug 2, 2010 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions

However, Belfort looked amazing. Incredible patience, and the MOMENT an opening presents itself, he becomes that old murderer from the past. Belfort needs some more tests, but that boy has turned into a KILLER.

My money’s on that. Or completely replacing the main event and moving Maia to a later card.

The problem with making Anthony Johnson vs Demian Maia as Johnson’s Middleweight debut is that Rumble could very well lose this fight especially since his BJJ is the weakest aspect of his game. I do see the reward here though in that Rumble would get instantly elevated in the Middleweight division if he wins, and Maia has already had his Title shot and lost.

I'd pick Grove

It would be a fun fight.

Nick Garcia is the Brian Russell of MLS but 10 times worse.

vitor or okami please

If we've learned anything from Dana,

it’s that no title shot is “guaranteed”.

so did fabricio werdum…

September 15 is still pretty far off—

Would love to see okami in this. Beating Maia would probably make him #1 contender or at least in line for an early 2011 shot

by nastyem on Aug 2, 2010 9:54 AM EDT reply actions

Okami would do well to take this fight.

It’s a very winnable fight for him.

by Polyhedron on Aug 2, 2010 10:25 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

Very winnable. Although if he were to win it would probably look a lot like his fight with Dean Lister, and I doubt the UFC would put it as its main event. Kinda like how they shafted Lister/Marquardt that time.

Gerald Harris if he wasnt fighting Sakara, especially coming off all the publicity his KO of Branch got.
