Forrest Griffin Talks Jon Jones and Anderson Silva

Full audio from his interview with Jason Ellis after the jump:
Forrest Griffin - "I hope I am not fighting Jon 'Bones' Jones. I might be. F*ck it; if I am, I am. I will do it, but I am not even training right now. That is a bad dude. That dude will whoop my ass. F*ck it. What is the worst, I mean, it could not be worse than Anderson Silva. It should not be worse than that, right? Every fight I go into, no matter what happens, it could not be worse than Anderson Silva."

"Because that sh*t was a year ago and literally every day people ask me something about that - What happened? What happened?"

"[Anderson punched me in the chin] Repeatedly and I was very confused. I tried to punch him and he literally moved his head out of the way and looked at me like I was stupid for doing it. He looked at me like - "Why would you do such a stupid thing?" He looked at me like - "Oh, did you really think you were going to hit me? What a stupid thing to think, you slow slow white boy." Then he punched me. I felt embarrassed for even trying to punch him. I felt like some kid trying to wrestle his dad."

Forrest talking about Anderson

was one of the funniest and most honest things I’ve ever heard a fighter say. you gotta love this guy despite some of his shortcomings in the cage.

Yeah

Griffin is straight up awesome. Looking forward to reading his new book.

Yea, I just finished the book he just put out and he mentions it humorously a couple of times in it as well.

He is a damn funny guy.

I'm lol'ing at the whole thing

God, listening to this is hilarious shit. What a great interview.

My car sucks, but I can fight and I have a pretty big dick. I’m good.

He’s a dick sometimes in his interviews, but sometimes he’s pretty funny.

This is one of the times I gotta LOL. Hilarious.

by MickDawg on Aug 19, 2010 3:42 PM EDT reply actions

I'll take his dickish moments to get stuff like this

he definitely makes MMA more colorful.

Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.

by Monte Fisto on Aug 19, 2010 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know that he is trying to be a dick

His sense of humor is odd ball and I don’t think he is all that good at it holding back. It does come off sounding bad some of the time.

by truck on Aug 19, 2010 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Forrest....

I’d like to think Forrest was joking around. I’m of the belief that Jon Jones’ stock will drop drastically by end of this year.

Forrest might be a 10 ten LHW now. Jon Jones is not a top ten LHW now.

The Janitor didn’t have the tools to be Jones, I know this, you know this and the UFC knew this too. Forrest would do alright against Jones IMO.

by jeremyam on Aug 19, 2010 4:07 PM EDT reply actions

How about Hamill, Vera, and the guy that took Forrest three rounds?

you keep predicting that stock decline. It’ll happen at some point. Might be when he’s 40, but still, patience pays off.

Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.

by Monte Fisto on Aug 19, 2010 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Umm...

Monte you were thinking Bonner, anyway if Jones is dominating guys who are in the 15 range then chance are he’s a top 10 guy. I can’t think of 10 LHWs that I’d put ahead of Jon Jones.

by HaterSlayer on Aug 19, 2010 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Griffin is a top-10 LHW and Jones is not, but that is an indictment of the rankings more than anything else...

But Forrest would get destroyed by Jones. Griffin has exactly ONE victory against a top-10 guy (a not even close to ready for prime time Rua does not count, even if he were technically top-10 at the time).

There are at best 5 LHWs in the world who would currently be even or slight favorites if a match with Jones were announced – Machida, Rua, Anderson and Lawal…possibly Rashad. Of those, only perhaps Machida and Lawal would have any real chance of beating him, aside from the proverbial “puncher’s chance”.

rampage isn't/wasnt top10?

http://mixedmartialartsblogger.wordpress.com/

by Cory Braiterman on Aug 19, 2010 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I kind of phrased that poorly...

Rampage is the one legit top-10 guy, I was adding the disclaimer about Rua, saying that even if he was technically top-10 at the time (I don’t recall), he was not Shogun, but a still injured/recovering/semi in shape because of it facsimile of himself & therefore doesn’t count as a legit top-10 guy if in fact he was.

Save the excuses, Forrest finished Shogun and kicked the crap out of Rampage his rep speaks for itself Jones on the other hand has done nothing to earn the mega hype he’s got. People have routinely put Forrest down and claimed that he would be crushed by this person and that person but in the end it’s a fight and he’s proven that he can easily crush hype with the best of them.

Please

Please bet everything you have against Jones when he fights Griffin.

I don't get your bias at all

I thought you were a wrestling guy. So here comes one of the most dynamic athletes in the promotion with a legit wrestling pedigree, and you’re questioning his skill set and his accomplishments? What he’s done to deserve the hype he’s got is walk through and finish every fighter that the UFC has fed him (with the exception of Hamill, who got saved from further embarrassment by a silly rule).

Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.

by Monte Fisto on Aug 20, 2010 11:18 AM EDT up reply actions

So that Rua victory doesn't count for Forest?

Does that mean the out of prime Vlad, Vera, and Bonnar fights don’t count for Jones?

by Akatalinich on Aug 20, 2010 3:33 AM EDT up reply actions

Fantasy Land

When Jones holds the LHW and HW belts and no one will take fights with him because he kicked Anderson Silva through the Octagon, you will still be here giving us reasons why Jones is all hype.

Forrest is brutaly honest almost to a fault. But he is also incredibly intelligent

By being so up front about his fear and the utter futility of fighting certain fighters such as Jon Jones, he almost makes sure that he will not fight them. Because how will Joe and Dana honestly promote a fight in which Forrest laments that he stands literally no chance at all?. They wont even try, because they know that this pretext is already out there and well known. So what you are seeing is Forrest manipulating his way towards picking his opponents. Its brilliant!

by SimplePsych on Aug 19, 2010 4:11 PM EDT reply actions

Not so fast

He basically said the same thing about Big Nog, and they booked that fight. Only reason it didn’t happen was he got hurt.

by Jason H. on Aug 19, 2010 5:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Or perhaps...

The reason he got hurt is because they booked that fight…

Every time somebody tells me they don’t like Forrest I wonder if they’re even human. Awesome guy.

I actually feel bad for him, he make people laugh in interviews but when he says people talk about this everyday, you know he can’t be too funny for him.

He said he was really down for a long time. You could tell after the fight, he wasn’t the same guy. He also sounds drunk in this interview and the way he’s talking is almost like a big fuck you to everyone. Not in a vicious way, but tongue in cheek. Like saying, “what the fuck do you think happened? Quit fucking asking me. And yes, obviously Jon Jones will beat my ass.”
That said, I was almost crying. He said it exactly how it happened, but from the POV of the victim.
