Report: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Out of UFC 119, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic Will Step In Against Frank Mir
Fighters Only reports:
Rodrigo Nogueira is out of his UFC 119 fight with Frank Mir after suffering an injury in training, a Brazilian source tells Fighters Only.
The nature of the injury was not disclosed but the source says it will require surgery. Nogueira is said to be "incredibly frustrated" by it and expects to be out until the New Year.
And they update:
Mirko ‘CroCop' Filipovic will be stepping in for an injured Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 119, Fighters Only can confirm.
...
Nogueira's injury is undisclosed at this point but a Brazilian source tells us it is one that requires surgery and is not an recurrence of the staph infection he suffered around the time of the first fight with Mir.
Filipovic's inclusion in the UFC 119 headlining fight was notified to Fighters Only by sources close to the event. It will be the first time that the Croatian legend and former PRIDE FC title challenger has fought Mir, a former UFC heavyweight champion.
Guilherme Cruz of Tatame.com tweeted:
"Minotauro's coach told me he had an old injury from Couture fight, but he was healing and wanted to fight Mir anyway. More news soon!"

Color me crazy
But I am suddenly more interested in the main event.
This is a good style match up for Cro Cop
Mir’s never been known as a great takedown guy (compared to the big wrestlers of the division), and while his hands have improved they’re not going to be on the level of Cro Cop.
Cro Cop has gone back to using his hands a lot to set up the kick finisher, but I think his hands are good enough to keep this a boxing match. Cro Cop is known for his take down defence in MMA almost as much as his kicks, the latter of which caused him to be taken down by the likes of Gonzaga.
Is Cro Cop truly back and dedicated? This could be a make or break fight for Mirko and make him relevant in the division again with an impressive win.
Who knows?
Right after the Barry fight, Cro Cop said his heart was no longer in fighting, that the fire has died and he no longer has the strong will to train hard.

I’m pretty sure he has been saying this for a while. I remember him sayig that he has trained like a gladiator for “X” years and now he justs wants to be a fisherman or something similar.
He’s going to take over the Cornelia Marie

way better match up
anyways. No one wanted to see Mir/Nog II.
As for Nog if he’s been injured since the Couture fight than why hasn’t he got it fixed? He’s been out for pretty much the entire time since then.
Nog seems to be breaking down. He’s pulled out of a lot of match ups recently.

Nobody wanted to see Mir Nog 2? I did.

YES!!!!!!
Cro Cop can KO Mir then he can fight Big Nog at 122! It makes perfect sense!
Nick Garcia is the Brian Russell of MLS but 10 times worse.
Better Idea
Jon Jones expended no energy in his last fight. This would have been a great fight for him — against Mir. Man, they should have made that happen.
"You stick a microphone in a guy's face and he calls out anybody but the champion, and Joe Silva should fax him a pink slip right then." -- Chael Sonnen.
It’s not a good idea to put an inexperienced wrestler against a seasoned jiu jitsu fighter like Mir, who, by the way, outweights Jones by at least 30 pounds.
That fight would make no sense. Even if Jones won, how would this help him in the light heavyweight latter?
It could be a good fight. Mir is no longer 265, he said that he went back to 24something, so it’s only about 10 lbs difference.

I think he said in an interview that before the Janitor fight he had gone up to 230 pounds walk-around weight.. don’t feel like searching for it right now, but I’m pretty sure it was as high as 230-232 something

Jones said on MMA Live
that he camp into camp at 231. He said he was 220 something in the cage vs Maty.

Yep. 226 in the cage. He could be easily over 230 without the need to diet down and cut to 205.

That’s what Jones have said. (Maybe he’s not good with numbers, 206+10=226?)

I’m a little more excited for this now and hopefully Mir sticks with his new found striking preference.

Cro Cop fans are gonna be really disappointed after this.

or possibly Franks Fans. Sence bolth fighters have a very annoying fanbase. Eather way who ever losses like with every fanbase the excuses will fly. You know the typical bullshit a prefight injury is why they lost, if this fight was held in the fighters pprime they would of kicked the others ass, Something was off that night he was ust not focused. etc
I think both groups have been somewhat deflated as of late.

so basically if Cro Cop can pull this off
he’s in title contention. SWeet. War Cro Cop

At least he isn't gonna fight through it. This doesn't look good for CC.
If he sustained the injury during the fight with Randy, does that mean he was injured going in against Cain?
this sucks. being one of a few that dislike nog and like mir i couldn’t wait for him to knock him out again. i like cro cop and hate to see him lose but i can’t not cheer on mir. i just hope this ain’t cro cop’s last fight which i doubt it will be win or lose. much ratha have cro cop/nog down the line than either of them fighting mir as he would rather be suited against relevant heavyweights like nelson.
Mir, Nightmare , Axe Murderer , Bones
Um...Wow?!?!?!
Awesome turn of events and a really nice surprise from CC.

It's rare that an injury results in a better fight
But I think that’s what we have here.
I am not excited about this matchup
..It’s going to be a one sided beating where Mir gets to say that he’s ‘back’, and that he still wants a shot at getting BROCKLESNAR’D…
As much as I want to see Mirko kick Mir’s annoying face in, I am not going to kid myself in believing that he can still do it… Mirko will finally call it quits after he loses, and there will be a lot of sad pandas in the internet.
by Anton Tabuena on Aug 15, 2010 7:56 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
But then all the pandas can be happy again after he gets BROCKSMASHED in the inevitable trilogy fight.

Stop being pessimistic Anton. If that happens, so be it. Lets just rejoice the fact that there is a chance that we shall see Mirko again and deliver a good performance.
I am. I think. I will. - Ayn Rand
But I won’t pick against Jon Jones again until I see him lose. - Kwisatz Haderach
I'm not being a pessimist.
It’s the truth. Mirko doesn’t have it anymore, and Mir will retire him. Standing or on the ground, he’s going to get beat…
And here’s a reality check for those people that are saying “Mirko is baaaack” after the Barry fight - Mirko looked good on the ground cause Barry has zero gound game, and the the only time he won the standup portion of that bout, was when Barry stopped attacking cause he broke his hand and his foot. I love Mirko, and I was rejoicing when he won that fight, but Mir>Barry and Mirko’s reflexes just aren’t the same anymore.
I would’ve preferred Mirko against guys like Nog or Randy/Toney Winner cause it would be entertaining, yet relatively even matchups. This one will be a one sided affair, and sadly, it will probably be Mirko’s last bout.

Crocop has a good chance
No matter how good Mir’s standup has gotten it’s still not as good as Crocops and it’s not like Mir is known for his takedowns either.
Hate MMAmath but..
Mir – Kongo – Filipovic. Mir’s hands are dangerous and heavy.

The thing about the Mir-Kongo fight is
it ended after one big punch early in the first round so its kind of hard to gauge Mir’s kickboxing from that fight. I think Crocop gained some confidence in his last fight too so i’m hoping he comes out motivated.
I can't do cartwheels so,

That’s way more impressive than cartwheels.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
nog was injured but wanted to fight Mir anyway?
Does that mean if Mir won again he would trotted it out as an excuse? Good for him for dropping out – I wouldn’t have wanted to see him fight Mir again if he wasn’t 100%.
Get rid of the ramp!

or counting another way
2 matches between for Nog, 3 for Mir.
That’s after checking their records – for some reason I forgot the Randy fight for Nog and the Kongo fight for Mir. Probably because both were pretty inconsequential in my view.
Anyway, I guess it’s not as soon as it seem, you’re right.

The UFC is genius for putting up an over-the-hill heavy underdog fighter against a guy who’s 1-2 in his last three fights in the main event, and still having us all care (me included.)
My expectations for Cro Cop have fallen so much its not even tough seeing him fight. He’s probably going to lose, so why not have him come in at +350 on the random chance he could pull off an upset?
Everyone must really hate Mir
Funny.
