Quote of the Day: James Toney Responds to Bernard Hopkins, David Haye
"I don't like neither one of them anyway so it don't matter," he said. "I don't care about the boxing community. I care about James Toney. It's about James Toney and Randy Couture. It's not about James Toney and boxing and James Toney and MMA.
"This is James Toney and Randy Couture so for Bernard he can go somewhere and get his damn teeth fixed. And David Haye, he's gay. I don't care about none of that. So they can just listen to all their bull****."
- James Toney as responds to criticism from fellow boxers about his chances against Randy Couture at UFC 118.

Here's a question for you, Luke.
You didn’t like listening to how over the top and ridiculous Sonnen got with his interviews and fight hype….how do you feel about Toney and what he’s been doing?
Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

Very true.
But his lunacy seems more like idocy – sure he’s an asshat, but he can’t help being an asshat.
As we’ve seen from Chael’s appearnce on MMA Live – he chooses to be an asshat.

Ignorant and yippity are not two of my favorite qualities. I don’t care if it is for show or not.

I'm not saying Toney is a lunatic because he's black.
I’m saying he’s a lunatic because he’s been punched in the head too much.
Which is a result of his boxing.
Which is a result of his superior physical gifts.
Which is a result of him being black.
Wait… that went of the rails somewhere… :-P

There's a great reference for you.

What's worse? A homophobic asshat or a xenophobic one?
I think they’re both stupid.
The MMA media’s reaction to both is quite different.

Its because of the decades old tradition...
of Boxers being mouthy. MMA fighters on the other hand…
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
Great question
Here’s what I’d say. When Sonnen is good, he’s just far and away better than Toney. He’s more varied and just generally has more wit. On the other hand, Sonnen is offering far more comment on more issues, so (for me, anyway) his ability to exceed natural thresholds of tolerance is more easily surpassed.
But the central issue for me is this: I need positively none of it to enjoy or be attracted to MMA. Ultimately all either are doing is just verbal masturbation. Chael’s just a better porn star.

Thanks for the honest reply.
I wasn’t asking to be a smartass; was legitimately wondering. I was also tired of Sonnen and his over the top posturing but was quite endeared to him after his recent appearance on MMA Live. Toney, not so much. It’s amazing that, for as much as his mouth is running, he never actually has anything to say.

Can’t wait for Randy to smash him.
Agreed!
It’s growing old.
I think Toney is going to be the Anti-Chael Sonnen.

Are we going to get any articles about Toney offending the homosexual community?
"In this fight, Anderson showed he was human," Nogueira said. "He showed he could be weak. But he showed he is a fighter and he brings something from his heart. It was beautiful."

I’m also very much looking forward to it. I hope Toney wobbles Randy but then Randy takes him down to pummel him. :)

Oh, well, had I known that Haye was gay, I wouldn’t have been listening to him at all!
Homophobia aside, that’s some weak, weak smack talk.

Only the parts you could make out were weak...
the unintelligible parts were gold.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
I think all the punches...
Regressed him into a 7th grader. “He’s gay.” wtf? Seriously you can do better than that. That’s not even an insult unless you’re some kind of a jagoff.
Oddly enough
If you call a black dude, especially an old one ‘gay’, he usually takes it that you literally are saying he likes men. Which, is an insult to a lot of guys, right or wrong.
Its like the word ‘ignorant’. To a lot of black folks, that’s a serious insult.

“Ignorant” damn well should be a serious insult. I can’t think of too many things that it’s more important that I not be, or be perceived to be. If someone called me gay, I’d probably just laugh my ass off because it shows how limited their thinking is. If someone called me ignorant, we’d have words.
"I'm AJB and I endorse this nut-puncher."
Man, I take statements of my ignorance as a matter of fact.

Well, yeah, me too. But I’m TRYING to learn; I always figured “ignorant” as a pejorative implied a state that isn’t changing, as in, somebody not trying to learn.

Its the way its used
You don’t hear white folks call each other ‘ignorant’ too often. At least not as a direct insult.
Black folks use it as an all purpose insult. Basically saying you flat out know nothing, about anything.
"I trained with Steven Seagal."

Yeah, that’s different than how I’d use/take it. For me, it’s more of an intentional or willful refusal to be aware of the world around you.
"I'm AJB and I endorse this nut-puncher."
I was going to add
willfully ignorant is a hole nother level. Can’t stand those people who refuse to see the obvious or just lie about it.(lookin at you fox news!)

Add MSNBC to that last part...
and you’d cover the entire political spectrum in one statement.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
depends on the context
we’re all ignorant about something. In fact, I’d say we’re more ignorant about things than we’re not. if someone is saying that in general, than yeah, it should be an insult. But if I don’t know much about Chinese culture and someone says I’m ignorant to Chinese culture, they’d be right and I wouldn’t be offended by that (nor should I).
