Alan Belcher pulls out of UFC Fight Night 22 With Demian Maia. From Twitter:
While I was in brazil I started losing my vision in my right eye. I saw a dr that told me to go back to us immediately. My friend/surgeon from biloxi got me an emergency surgery scheduled in alabama now just trying to recover. No contact for 6 weeks. Sorry to my trainers. Sorry to ufc & demian Maia, I know he has been training specifically for me. Sorry to my fans as well. As long as I get released from dr I will try to make ufn 22 to see my fans and watch the fights

Thanks for clarifying
I was wondering. That sucks for him :(
ALL OF YOU LISTEN TO MEE, DON'T DISTURB HERE, I WILL CALL POLICE CATCH YOU, DON'T COME TO MY BANGOLOW HOUSE, UNDERSTAND, O.K. I HATE ALL OF YOU.

Dammit Belcher...
This could have been a good win for him too.
by Polyhedron on Aug 1, 2010 1:13 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
He begged for that fight...
It was a fight that could have put him close to a title shot with a win. He has to be pretty devastated. Good luck. Hope for a speedy recovery.
yeah he seems pretty upset about it……he’ll be back
much love for the hometown boy

Leben shouldn't want any of that.
Maia would sub him in a heartbeat.
by Polyhedron on Aug 1, 2010 4:23 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
....Only if Maia takes it to the ground within the first minute.
Because he’d be an idiot if he kept it standing.

i was jus tryin to post the info as quick as i got it

That sucks
wonder if Leben has another late notice win in him.
People do not like to think. If one thinks, one must reach conclusions. Conclusions are not always pleasant.

LEBEN WOULD GET MURDERED
That would be an awful matchup. Chael has significantly better TD defense than Leben and he got McSubbed!
if leben could keep it standing though he’d give maia hell

IIRC
Maia either pulled guard or was TAKEN down by Sonnen and then slapped on the triangle? Did we even see Sonnen defend the takedown from Maia? I think Leben can keep it upright against Demian, Aaron Simpson couldn’t even take/keep him down?
maia actually got a legit roman greco take down on sonnen
by Johnathan Willis on Aug 1, 2010 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions
it wasn’t greco. there was an ankle trip in there. it’s more like a modified cement mixer

watch the fight dude.
Maia took him down, mounted him, set up a triangle from mount, and rolled into it. Not “got taken down by sonnen and slapped it on.”
you speak the truth
maia is one of my favorite fighters but i think he just got lucky with that takedown
that takedown he got on sonnen was beautiful
but he shouldn’t have been able to get it
sonnen should have been able to defend that throw
the submission was quick and precise that fight made me love maia

Didn’t Sonnen say he was out of it after Maia tagged him with that jab from the bottom? Maia’s great at getting a fight to the mat, but I don’t think he’s taking Chael down that cleanly before the punch

Man, how did you forget about THIS?

I say have Vitor step in!!!
It would be an easy KO they can add to the highlight reel in build up to facing Anderson.
by JCBee on Aug 1, 2010 2:00 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
finally
i was waiting for someone to say that.
VItor needs to fight at 185lbs i think and that would be the perfect fight for it, and a good grappler vs striker matchup.
(yes i know vitor is a Black belt in BJJ but seriously he would get owned on the ground by maia)
Winner of Munoz vs Okami
Could make a Lebenesk turn around if the get out of there fight uninjured. The cards are about a month and a half apart.
by JCBee on Aug 1, 2010 2:11 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
The only decent replacement I can think of other than Leben would be winner of Munoz / Okami, sans injuries.

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
The best headlining fight in the history of Spike cards isn’t going to happen. Feel sorry for Belcher because I think he can contend for the title.
As far as replacements…….Kendall Grove, Aaron Simpson, and Chris Leben spring to mind.
Nick Garcia is the Brian Russell of MLS but 10 times worse.
I like Leben but he’s the only one out of those 3 that could main event this show and I honestly wouldn’t be too excited about that fight.
by JCBee on Aug 1, 2010 4:09 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
damn, i wos really looking forward to this fight. Predictions on who steps up? Leben? Belfort? i hope its leben. 1 guy whos swinging for the fences vs a guy that cud kill u on the ground wud be awsum. i dont see it going past the first round.
Mir, Nightmare , Axe Murderer , Bones
Didn't think about Beflort,
thats a pretty good idea for him. A tune up fight before fighting Anderson Silva is a really good idea.
Eye injuries are scary. Eye injuries and neck/spinal cord injuries. I hate to see those more than anything.

Second that.
Eye injuries from minor to major or anything bad going on within the eyes really gets under my skin.
Holy Shit
Man, that is terrible. I hope he has a full and speedy recovery.
Remember when we were breaking up and I told you I hoped that thing on your leg turned out to be cancer? That was just the wounded little boy in me talking.
As much as I hate him, Kendall Grove seems like the most logical choice for a replacement fighter, unless he’s still in the doghouse.

oh yeah but.....
wouldn’t Cote be more interested in this type of fight. Scrap the Lawler fight (even though I’d miss the entrance) give Cote a make or break fight and see if he sinks or swims. Just a thought.

he was only in the dog house with spike
not the ufc
The Red Wings will come back stronger
RESTORE THE ROAR 2010 Detroit Lions
Well, this card is on Spike. I doubt they have matchmaking power, but I think Dana’s much more likely to have his opinion swayed by Spike than by Kendall Grove. If he’s still in the doghouse with EITHER of them, a main event slot is unlikely. But he is still the most logical replacement right now.

In a perfect world
We would get a Vitor vs Leben as the headliner and give Maia vs Simpson or Marquart as a co-main event. Lately the Spike TV cards have really been a slack compared to the Versus cards.
