Miguel Torres Returns in September to Face Charlie Valencia at WEC 51

Photo via www.mmafight.com

Former bantamweight king, Miguel Torres (37-3) will return to action after the first back-to-back losses of his career, to face standout wrestler, Charlie Valencia (12-5), who's on a three-fight winning streak, at WEC 51 in Broomfield, Colorado on September 30th.  MMA Fighting has the scoop:

After dropping two straight fights, former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres will look to find his way back into the winning column and ultimately back into title contention when he faces Charlie Valencia at WEC 51, MMA Fighting has learned from sources with knowledge of the situation.

The bout will serve as the co-main event of the evening, sources have confirmed.

Torres lost his bantamweight title in a knockout loss to Brian Bowles last August, his first loss in over six years, but his comeback was spoiled by Joseph Benavidez who bloodied and then choked out the ultra-aggressive Torres in March.  Valencia, on the other hand, has rattled off three straight wins against Coty Wheeler, Seth Dikun, and most recently, Akitoshi Tamura.

The rumored WEC 51 card now includes:

Jose Aldo vs. Manny Gamburyan

Miguel Torres vs. Charlie Valencia

Chan Sung Jung vs. George Roop

Mark Hominick vs. Leonard Garcia

Is September 30th confirmed?

That’s a Thursday and it would just be out of the normal for the WEC who usually holds cards on Wednesdays, Saturdays, or Sundays?

One of the first WEC fights I watched was a Charlie Valencia fight and he was on the first WEC card I attended live so l’m a fan… but he’s getting KTFO.

Torres and Mir fighting 5 days apart. Should be interesting.

Miguel will maul Charlie.

Oh and WEC 51 > WEC 50 but I bet both cards will be entertaining as hell.

This is going to be a great test for Torres, I have alot of questions about where he is mentally after his last fight. He gave up his neck after he got cut and he was also very tentative in his stand up, we will find out if Torres has gotten his swagger back or if Bowles broke him in this fight.

I spoke to Miguel that night. He gave up his neck because he knew he needed a finish

and went gung ho for it. He had 10 seconds max before the ref called it.

I’m a Torres fan so I hope that’s true. Either way Chalie is a very tough guy that is going to bring the fight to Torres this will be a huge test to see if he can come back from 2 tough losses.

If you watch my comments

you’ll realize how hard I cheer for Miguel. It’s like ANance with Tim Sylvia. You know the guy, you feel their wins and losses way more than others.

Looms great

I haven’t been disappointed by a WEC card since I started watching regularly (last year or so). This one looks like a great line up already.

“Loom” was much cooler… as in “Looms large.”

The WEC cards always loom.

This card just looks fantastic.

Aldo should destroy Gamby.

Hominick should destroy Garcia.

Torres should destroy Valencia.

Roop and Korean Zombie will be great fun.

What a card.

I'll buy any card that has Aldo on it.

But it helps that this card is stacked.

It is amazing how that division got so deep, so quickly. Torres and his dominance forced everyone else to step up their games, and now he has to scramble to stay relevant. Should be a good fight.
