so...

you are saying losing to a top 5 light heavyweight in the world is bad? Plus Melvin is a tank standing up and considering Mark Hunt is a self proclaimed Stand Up artist, we all knew who would win that fight.

We need the Gif of Mark Hunt pancaking Wanderlei Silva like a Yokozuna Bomb.

one of those middleweights arguably has the most power, pound for pound, in any combat sport. Manhoef’s power is proof that there is no kind and merciful god.

To be fair...

It is hard to make excuses for a guy who shows up out of shape and has been worked 5 times in a row. That is like saying JaMarcus Russell failed because the Chargers are a good team.

by truck on Jul 8, 2010 12:56 PM EDT up reply actions

the problem is

Mark Hunt has never really been relevant as an MMA fighter, nor did anybody say he was.

The guy is a fun fighter to watch regardless, and seeing him try to cut down to 265 will even be more fun. If Mark Hunt decides “meh I want to take this seriously” then there could be some fun match-ups in the wing if he wins.

I just want to see a Wanderlei/Mark Hunt II match.

exactly right Mr. NC-17 every one who knows anything about Mark Hunt knows this already. Bottom line he is a fun fighter to watch who can take a beatinig and will always bring it. I actually think if Hunt is seripus about fighting at HW and cutting down and making 265 there are alot of great fights that Joe Silva could make with him in the UFC.

by Shocbomb on Jul 8, 2010 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Therein lies his problem

And one that his fellow Samoans share. They don’t like to train, I have seen plenty of talent, toughness and fighting intelligence, they even learn well. But they hate to get themselves in shape. I can’t deal with them when they come into the gym.

Not saying Hunt is any sort of force, or even relevant these days

but none of his losses are to bums. Barnett, Fedor, Overeem, Manhoef, and Mousasi with Semmy in K1 thrown in there is a serious murderer row. And I’ll take any excuse to talk about how fucking awesome Manhoef’s power is. He’s actually being used to accelerate particles at the LHC because even modern technology can’t replicate the force he creates.

Obviously Hunt is being brought in to loose so they can call – What’s his name? Oh ya McCorkle -the greatest fighter in the world with an undefeated record Having fought in epic battles over K1/Pride monsters like Mark Hunt. That is what they did with Carwin and that is what they are doing here. The last thing Dana wants is for Hunt to get in shape and derail their plan.

Mark will be kicked out again after this fight. But it is nice to see him get a pay check and for him to be one of the “greatest fighters in the world” again for one more fight.

Mark Hunt hasn’t taken this sport seriously for a loooooooooooong time (and even then he wasn’t exactly killing himself training). Not sure what to expect out of this, but I’m looking forward to Mark Hunt being tired and worn out from being in terrible shape as well as cutting to 265 and winning an ugly decision over this McCorkle guy.

Sence he lost most of those fights in the last 4 years in under 3 mins. There are no fights in that time spand I could base a opinion about his gas tank on sence in K1 or MMA to know where his cardio now stands. It just seems like a statement someone would make buy just looking at a picture of Hunts physique but never watching him fight. Most MMA fans who ever watched Hunt fight in his k1 or pride days would know his cardio is pretty good for his size.

Anyone not named Mark Hunt would never get into UFC with a five-loss streak (six if one were to count getting KTFO by Semmy Schilt in 2008, but that was in K-1). Joe Silva must have a raging clue about McCorkle to give him a match like this.

by who me on Jul 8, 2010 2:07 PM EDT reply actions

They are certainly signing more and more guys who have to cut weight to make 265, or at the very least are really tall. That Chute Boxe guy they just signed is 6’7, Christian Morecraft looks to be about 6’8 and near 265lbs. Now Hunt and McCorkle. Travis Browne already debuted, and I think Chad Corvin, who had to cancel his fight cause of injury, is over 250lbs too. Bigger and bigger heavyweights seem to be the way they are going.

by Meers311 on Jul 8, 2010 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Mark Hunt was 286lbs for his last fight and I think McCorkle cut down from 350lbs to 305lbs recently. Cutting to make heavyweight will be a real issue for both of them.

This is just ridiculous (if true)

So Dana won’t let Chuck fight again, but he brings in Hunt from a momumental losing streak? No comprendo

Bullshit

There is no way the UFC is signing a guy who’s lost his last 5 fights.

Try...

Signing a guy who has lost 5 in a row, 4 of those losses were against current Strikeforce fighters (Mousais, Manhoef, Fedor, Overeem)… other being Barnett. =)

Maybe

Dana wants to show the world that UFC fighters can beat the shit out of Mark Hunt better than Strikeforce fighters lol

THE RETURN OF MARK HUNT

Im so damn happy right now, Mark hunt is one of my all time favorites but since his ability not to be able to drop to 265 he never was able to fight in america but now in a UFC? I’m pumped to see this. Greatest chin in the history of MMA.

Over 120 replies and no mention of the Atomic Butt Drop?

I’d love to see Hunt get a few fights in the cage. Two things though:

1:I don’t recall him ever being close to the 265lb limit
2: Visa issues: he was denied a visa for PRIDE 32.

About 5 years too late, but it will be nice to see Mark Hunt in the Octagon for nostalgia’s sake.

This is sad

I thought you had to win a few in a row, even over some bums before coming to the UFC?. 1st Kimbo, then Baroni, then Toney, Now this?. Freak show time I guess?

Fuck

I hope Hunt shows up motivated and in shape.

From Dana White’s twitter re: Mark Hunt

@json4859 part of the pride deal we contractually owe him fights from our purchase of the company

So that explains it. I wonder who else they owe fights.

I had almost lost all faith in what is right with the world until I saw Dana’s twitter response, now this makes a little bit of sense.
