if this is the co-main event, then I wonder if it will be Rashad vs. Lyoto 2 or Lesnar vs. Cain as the main event.
uuuh yeah I write for the Cincinnati Enquirer. Thanks?
too soon for Machida I think, but maybe
Not Lesnar, he is not fighting until later in the year probably; the 119 thing is a crap rumor

I think I read this week that Machida is ready to go...
A fight at the end of September shouldn’t be out of the question.
Machida, Rampage, Evans, Griffin and Franklin should all be in play by september. Hmmm… Maybe not Franklin. The other fourshould be available though unlesss I am forgetting a mtchup.
Forrest had surgery sometime between 113 and 114. i wonder where he is at now progresswise

Unless it was a serious surgery...
He should be close.
Machida vs TBA makes sense for this card… or maybe they will throw Big Nog / Cro Cop on there
I'm not so sure about that
Since Little Nog will have a full camp to prepare for Bader this time.
Like all of the elite MT / BJJ guys, Little Nog is vulnerable to the elite of the MMA wrestlers, but I don’t consider Bader an elite one based on what he has shown thus far…

The thing with Bader is that he tends to wear down after the first round. Even against Jardine, he took him down at will in the first but could not take him down in the later rounds. I feel that Rogerio will be more prepared for a wrestler this time around with a full training camp, so I am going with Nogueira in this one. If Bader wins, he will be in Title contention though.
Rampage probably refused this one as well...
He already dodged the ass-kicking he would have gotten from either Jon Jones or Machida, Little Nog would have cracked him as well…
As I have said for months, Rampage is a one-dimensional, unevolved fighter who is destined for a continued slide into glorified gatekeeper status unless Dana protects him (which it looks like he may be doing) by giving him cupcake and/or “name only” fighters to artificially build him up based on his PPV drawing ability…

There is no way Rampage was offered Jon Jones. Jones is getting the slow treatment and rightfully so. There’s no way the UFC would risk a future superstar by pushing him into a fight with a top five fighter like Rampage this soon.

He was not officially offered Jones, but declined preemptively
They are going too slow with Jones, and fast-tracking the lesser fighter in Ryan Bader.
FTR, I think Jones would absolutely ruin Rampage, and I doubt that Dana would do that to him. Of course, there are numerous other LHWs who would take Rampage as well…
I don’t think the rankings ever have much current relevence, but if he is still considered top-5, it is on past and rep only…

Bader already has a saleable name
Winning TUF makes it easy to market a fighter. You know why Jones is headlining cards on VS rather than fighting on PPV main cards? To build his name.
MMA is both a sport and a business. We can argue the merits of Jones skill but the fact remains he’s not all that marketable… yet. Jones is only 22 and is being hyped on the Internet like the second coming of MMA Jesus. The UFC is doing the right thing in giving him his only pocket of the promotion, VS main events, to build some brand equity with fans who don’t yet know what he’s all about.
When Jones does take that big step into big name top ten talent, it’ll be an event and everyone will know they’re watching something that’s possibly a turning point for a new generation of fighters.
The worst thing a promoter can do is throw a fighter into the deep end when he isn’t ready, both from a sporting perspective and a business perspective. Bader is ready, Jones isn’t.

That is a good, valid point about Bader's TUF giving him a bigger, more recognizable name at this point...
I really think the UFC is going to have a tough time building Jones’ name simply because so few top fighters are going to be willing to face him.
The few who will be willing post-Maty will consist mainly of those who are too much for him yet (Rua, Machida, Anderson) or Rashad, who Jones is said to have owned in training but they will not likely fight each other.
The other side are those loyal UFC soldiers, who, as Jones would likely all but ruin as fighters, I don’t think the UFC would do that to them (Franklin, Couture, Griffin (doubtful he would take it)).
Thiago Silva would be an ideal next step, as he may not have the juice to duck Jones, despite stating that he doesn’t want to fight him.

Whilst I do agree I think age has alot to do with the pacing Bader is 27 and "Bones"Jones 22 (will be 23 in a few days) No need to rush Jonny at all. He’s got YEARS ahead of him before he even hit’s mid 20’s

My feelings exactly
Pushing him too soon into a big fight that he might lose could ruin Jones. Give him time. I’m as big a fan of the master of the hellbow as anyone, I just think fans have no patience whatsoever.

cool matchup
wonder when we’ll see big nog again. i know he just fought in february, just haven’t heard anything about him in awhile.
Bader doesn’t have the cardio to LnP

i agree with you greg, but i think his name really overhyped his BJJ. its good but i dont think its BigNogesque.

Must be killing Big Nog that his brother has to fight his Man Crush though.
Huh?
You’re gonna have to explain that one.
Any way it’s good to see Darth step up in competition, should be a good fight.

He means
That Big Nog coached Bader on the Ultimate Fighter- Bader was the first guy picked, and Nogueira was very high on him the whole show.
HUH????
what the heck happened to the rumoured Little Nog and Rampage?!?!??
Rumors surfaced prior to UFC 116 that Nogueira was going to face former champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, but UFC president told reporters following the event that they had not put that fight together as Jackson was still fulfilling commitments for the “A-Team” movie overseas, and had not been in the mix yet.
Thanks Nick.
Its too bad that ’Page’s movie commitments will keep him from a match with Lil’ Nog

Rampage is unwilling (Read: afraid of getting his ass kicked) to face another top LHW
He has already ducked the idea of facing either Jon Jones or Machida (either of whom would take him with ease), and that is probably what happened here too.
Maybe Rampage would be willing to face Cane, or Brilz…maybe Vera or Hamill…
by BigDNotDallas on Jul 8, 2010 11:10 AM EDT up reply actions
I know of no proof he has been offered and declined a fight, but
Rampage has publicly stated (on different occasions for each) that he has no interest in a fight with Machida (“too boring”) or Jones (don’t recall exact quote).
by BigDNotDallas on Jul 8, 2010 11:19 AM EDT up reply actions
Sorry, I am mobile now, but
The two comments were on either BE or Junkie, as those are the main sites I have frequented of late.
Machida quote was very recent, the Jones one sometime in the months prior.
If you (or anyone else) are feeling enterprising, I’m sure a few minutes doing an advanced search on google will help.

This sounds pretty close to fighter bashing
Especially since as Nick Thomas has indicated above you, Rampage still has other commitments preventing him from focussing on a fight at the moment.

Yes, but when you substantiate your claims with such empirical references as ("too boring") and (don’t recall exact quote), you must surely have nothing to worry about?
So true

Rampage did say he doesnt wanna fight the dragon
Page said he doesnt wanna be in another boring fight. it was in the “This week in quotes” here on BE. I never heard that he didnt wanna fight Jones. But honestly….. does anyone ? dude has tons of skill and no name value…. except to us (hardcore base)
Big step up for Darth. After what Brilz did to Lil Nog, I’m sure not putting it past him

Well Brilz might be a better MMA fighter than Ryan Bader. I think his wrestling for MMA and ground game for MMA might top Ryan Bader’s. I don’t think Bader can stand and trade with Lil Nog in this fight, because he will get caught. This needs to be a ground game battle.
uuuh yeah I write for the Cincinnati Enquirer. Thanks?
I don't see Little Nog having nearly as much trouble with Bader as he did against Brilz
But only because he will have a full camp to prepare for that type of fighter this time…
But you never know, Bader may have more than he has had to show thus far…
Frankly I would say based on his last fight that Brilz has a better MMA wrestling game than anything Bader has shown to date…
I still wonder why Bader has gotten “fast-tracked” with name and/or top fighters and Jones is left with, at best, at lateral from Vera in the Janitor…
by BigDNotDallas on Jul 8, 2010 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions
because Bader won TUF
however, his wins aren’t bad . . . Marrero, Schafer, and then Jardine? Those a good wins on a young career and Little Nog is just another step up. Interesting fight since Bader seemed closed to Big Nog on the show.
Vote Quimby
Nader is easily the best prospect to come out of TUF in the last four or five seasons.

Brilz did to Nog?
Lose a controversial decision? I know the UFC is based in the good ole’ USA but I thought you had to do more than out wrastle your opponent in an MMA fight to win.

I wanted Nogueira/Rampage but this is still a very good fight. Hopefully Nogueira comes in better shape than we saw him against Brilz. If he does, I’ve got Nogueira here where ever the fight goes.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
There goes Nog/Page...
I wonder if Rampage expressed no interest in fighting Nogueira like he did with Machida? Still, should be a good fight.
I really don't see Bader winning this if it goes beyond 2 rounds either
If I recall correctly, Jardine began stuffing most, if not all, of his shots when Bader slowed in the 2nd…

Some interesting fights.........
rumored for this card but it really needs a good headliner for people to get into it seriously i think. I mean Dunham-Sherk is good, Lil Nog-Bader is good but none of those names is gonna sell a PPV.
Brock vs. Cain would have made this card spectacular but we know that isn’t happening. Not sure what the UFC has up its sleeves.
