Quote of the Day: Brock Lesnar's WWE Manager Paul Talks Brock's UFC 116 Win Over Shane Carwin
"Oh, he wasn't going quit! Oh, no, no! I mean, I thought he could have been pounded into unconsciousness, but he wasn't tapping. There was no way that he was going to tap and there was no way that he was going to make it easy for Carwin to knock him into unconsciousness. He was going to keep fighting and keep fighting until Carwin knocked him into unconsciousness and Carwin was going to have to blast through Brock's defense to get him into unconsciousness.
Listen, you know, they said he doesn't have a chin. Those people can shut the [expletive] now. They said he can't take punishment. Those people can shut the [expletive] up now. He took the best that Carwin out and THEN HE CHOKE HIM OUT. And I'll give Carwin, MY GOD, I mean you talk about credit, he held his own wrestling Brock. I mean, he was out striking in the first round. I mean, Carwin, MY GOD, what an animal and I look forward to seeing his next fight but not quite as much as I look seeing to Brock Lesnar's next fight."

i read it more as
juxtaposition with Carwin’s tapping, which seemed distasteful. I have no problem with a fighter tapping to prevent injury, either due to strikes or submission. if you’re willing to step in the cage/ring, you’ve proven enough already.
yeah, i realized
i left that a little too open-ended. if you’re a serious fighter stepping into the cage with the intent to win…. (Whatever it takes to include Herschel Walker but exclude Jose Canseco.)

The Cain fight will be very interesting… the closest thing we have to a Viking vs Native American battle in the modern day… their roots have historical and ancestral relevance in this fight.
Cain has the speed edge, Brock has an explosive edge and their MMA wrestling is close enough… this fight will be about strength vs Cardio. Cain has way better technique on the feet but he has T-rex arms which Brock can nullify with reach and clinch.
I dont think Cain can finish brock with strikes unless he tires him out first and It might be foolish for brock to try to finish Cain with strikes unless he’s pretty much unconcious lest he ends up like carwin.
And Im not convinced that Cain has all of sudden found all this power… he certainly has more power than couture because none of randy’ shots even moved nog.
What will be interesting is Cain is the only guy at the top of the heavyweight division that throws really good leg kicks. Brock, Carwin, Fedor, JDS, none of them throw kicks.
This is also a pick em and I think it’ll come down to strength vs Cardio. They both have heart… Brock has the better chin but Cain has one that’s also very very tough to finish.
Cain's speed edge is not that great.
Lesnar’s edge in strength is much bigger.
I agree about leg kicks. Lesnar’s “check” in the first Mir fight was kinda bad.

I think Cain has a huge speed edge
In the striking department. Meaning footwork, getting in and out of the pocket, moving his head, quick hands. Brock won’t have to worry about the power much though so he may be able to just wade in and smother him. Cain will have to “bob and weave” his way to victory. Tough to do over five rounds with a beast like Lesnar. Maybe Cain’s strategy will be to do that and try to tire him out a bit. Don’t really know.

So
You guys really think that Brock isn’t outclassed in the speed department (striking wise) by Cain? That’s incredible to me! It’s obvious that he is. Brock is a slow plodding puncher with a monster reach.

cain still gets hit…. In a way it’s good that Brock doesnt like to get touched because then he might’ve gone down the Gray Maynard, Tyson Griffin route of becoming shitty kickboxers instead of incorporating their strengths and mastering it in MMA.
GSP doesnt like to get hit either and that has served him real well.
Yeah, and it's good that he didn't turn into Sean Sherk or Rashad Evans.
A great wrestler who learned how to strike and had some success with it and in turn abandoned what he was always good at. I’m just glad the success of his stand up game against Herring and Couture didn’t give him the wrong idea. He still has a lot to learn. Totally agree with the GSP comparison. No one likes to get hit but once he realized how quickly he could lose his title in the stand up game he went back to wrestling and submissions. Unless he feels like he has a clear advantage on the feet he will never contest a fight there. Too much risk.
Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.
Exactly and what's Cain's reach?

Viking vs. Native American battle
Already seen that one, bubba. It’s call Pathfinder, came out a couple years ago. Do yourself a favor: queue that bitch up on Netflix, get a handle of sour mash and some sweet tea, prepare for the most bitchin two hours of your life.
If the movie tells me anything (and I base a lot of my life decisions on lessons learned from Pathfinder) it’s that Cain wins via surviving an icy drowning in which his ancester appears underwater to share wisdome.

The hero in that movie was actually a viking raised by indians. If anything Cain is the guy that runs his horses into the booby trap like a dumbass. That movie was horrid… How could they kill off the old guy? He was THE LAST mohican for fuck sake.
Wait, that was the plot?
Am I actually going to have to go back and watch that fucking movie again…

People keep saying “WWE Manager”
Does this mean that Heyman is Brock’s actual, current manager? Or just, Heyman, who played the role of Brock’s Manager back when they were both in the WWE?
Doesn't seem to me
That Peter has done all that much yet to help Brock out. But we can’t take much away from the striking department in this fight because we know he didn’t want to stand and trade with Carwin anyway. I expect to see an even better version of Brock next time we see him. Better striking, better ground, and even more confidence.

All of Heyman’s interviews this past week have been great. He’s a lot more than just some figure from pro wrestling, and seems to be one of the closest people to Brock, I hope the media gets a hold of him a little more in regards to the champion.

He’s a lot more than just some figure from pro wrestling
I could not possibly disagree more. That’s exactly what he is: just some figure from pro wrestling, one of the carniest sons of bitches you’ll ever, ever see, and a man who probably hasn’t uttered an honest, no-bullshit, non-character sentence for the last 15 or 20 years. I don’t mean that to call him a liar, but EVERY SINGLE THING that Paul Heyman EVER says is a promo in one way or another. He’s a very entertaining guy and can be a magical talker, and he was also a brilliant wrestling booker at his best (maybe the last of those). But he’s always in character. Always.
I do not argue at all with hoping he does more interviews or whatever because, like I said, he’s really entertaining, but if anyone out there is pro wrestling, Paul Heyman is pro wrestling.

I thought it seemed like he was being pretty sincere in all of his interviews regarding Brock so far, definetely nothing like the persona he displayed during his pro wrestling days.

you mean like walking around showing everyone the picture of his daughter with Brocks Daughter?
These guys are always working on some angle.
Well what a piece of shit!
You mean to tell me he’s actually walking around with a picture of his baby daughter with one of her playmates that happens to be related to one of the main event fighters and he’s actually showing people this, that dastardly villain. I can see what you guys are saying, but come on I just take that as a display of how personal his and Brock’s relationship is. I don’t even know what angle there would even be to play with that one.
Like I said, he doesn’t seem like Paulie pro wrestling character Heyman, he’s just going around hyping up his friend since all of these people are trying to get his opinions anyway. I haven’t heard him say anything remotely carnival barker-ish about anything, unless you just want to be a cynic and just assume he’s overplaying how close he is to Brock but it’s not like we’ve ever heard a peep out of him before this.
