and make no mistake, the game actually runs at 60FPS.
You can’t just mash your way through either, this EA guy kicked my ass at E3.

The lady announcer was pretty funny,
but they need a lotttt of work in the Audio… listen to the punches, or how the crowd reacts. It’s just dull and consistent. kinda unrealistic, especially when they were introducing the fighters.
You don’t get the feel that what you’re watching is actually “real”. On Undisputed, even with all it’s flaws, you actually feel and have that experience like you’re seeing a real UFC event. This one is too videogame-ish.

I think so too.
I was just talking about the audio, the presentation, the “look” and feel of the entire game. It could probably have better gameplay than Undisputed though (cause that’s were most of the people’s issues come from, animation, career mode, etc..).
by Anton Tabuena on Aug 1, 2010 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions

It's EA Sports.....they just about never impress with audio.
Nick Garcia is the Brian Russell of MLS but 10 times worse.
they’ve reworked QUITE a few things since e3 and it’s showing
the striking and submission engines look much more fluid than it did at e3
by the time this game ships out it will be amazing
the guys at ea are still reworking the engine and everytime i see a new clip i’m more and more impressed
by Johnathan Willis on Aug 1, 2010 12:08 AM EDT reply actions
yeah, striking and grappling transitions look pretty smooth...
by Anton Tabuena on Aug 1, 2010 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions
i was especially impressed by le’s striking how fluid it was
at e3 the striking looked like they were trying to throw punches underwater and it kinda scared me because i really have high hopes for this game.
ea has the experience to make this game amazing from a technical stand point
hopefully they’ll have the hokey animated cartoon feel a lil more worked out and polished by the time the final version ships

Two thoughts:
First, there definitely had better be a toggle to turn Renallo (sp?) off.
Second, is Big John the only referee to license is image for one of these games?
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
Some thoughts...
One thing that people seemed to not get when watching the footage we’ve seen, is that strikers will obviously strike better than wrestlers. King Mo looked rough on the feet, while here, we see Cung Le’s kicks and punches coming out real fluid. Likewise, you see Smith a little more natural looking on the feet, but not putting combos together like Le. I did notice changes made in the striking that looked much needed before, glad to see it taken care of.
What no one’s talked about here that I though was just amazing, was at 43 seconds in, in the Vale Tudo fight (or I guess vale tudo, since it’s brazil) when the opponent is rocked and he rushes in, the way the fighters move together into the finishing moment was excellent. I’m guessing theres a big mix of positions and ways to end the fight with a rocked opponent, which is something Undisputed lacks.
From all reports she (Cyborg) pretty much only spars men, and has been known to put some out during training. - Rudinho479
What no one’s talked about here that I though was just amazing, was at 43 seconds in, in the Vale Tudo fight (or I guess vale tudo, since it’s brazil) when the opponent is rocked and he rushes in, the way the fighters move together into the finishing moment was excellent. yeah that’s one of the things they said they’ve reworked since e3 and one of the things i was most impressed with in this particular video as well.
this is a list of things they’ve reworked that i took from the fanshots section from not long ago
-More fighting Stances and Styles have been added
- All strikes on the ground, have been tweaked for more power from all positions
- Knockdowns resulting from a strike have been re-worked and have also added a camera shake and sound effect
- The overhand punches have been re-animated
- Stance specific jabs have been added! Fighters who’s lead hand is low will have a short quick jab, while other fighters (like Diaz style) will have pawing jabs.
- Kicks from the back leg , have been re-done to show follow through.
- If a striker is out of range and throws one of these kicks, you can now time a takedown. This results in a great battle of strategies and gauging a fighter’s range.
- Ring ropes are now interactive during the clinch.
- Submission chains have been added. The number is at 5 right now.
- As mentioned before, the footprinting technology has been re-worked with gliding for better feel and movement
- The Vale Tudo rules have been updated to allow all moves and it now has 1 round that is 20 minutes long.
you can see alot of the things in this list in this particular video
anyone know when this games supposed to ship?

by Johnathan Willis on Aug 1, 2010 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions
Since I work as a video games journalist, and I know this stuff inside and out, I can tell you right now that from my eyes, this doesn’t look very good at ALL.
1. Strikes seek out the opponent. There were points where Cung Le’s animations would literally slide him across the mat like he’s fighting on butter. Same for Scott Smith. In MMA fights, punches aren’t homing missles.
2. Animations look canned as well. In fact, some of the strikes look like the fighter is made out of rubber, especially in the grappling section.
3. Fighters can take way, way too many clean shots before being rocked. Scott Smith may have an iron chin, but I doubt he can take that many headkicks, especially when they land straight to the fucking jaw.
I hate the fact that they put EA Tiburon on this game. This deserves the attention of EA Canada, since they gave us the Fight Night series. They know combat sports.
i can respect those opinions
but most of the things that you’ve mentioned are things that were just introduced into the game very very recently (since e3) which in my mind means that there’s a good chance they’ve simply not completely worked out the flaws you’ve mentioned however i’m far from a video game journalist so it’s good to hear insight from someone inside the industry
by Johnathan Willis on Aug 1, 2010 1:00 AM EDT up reply actions
I don’t have too much experience with recent sports games, but compared to Undisputed, these animations don’t seem canned at all. Especially on the ground.

"I'm a laywer" - Star Jones played by Tracy Morgan
Called it before the fight:
Cardio - The BIG question. Does Shane Carwin have cardio? He's never gone past the first round. His muscle mass is astounding and we all know that with all that muscle comes a need for the heart to pump fresh oxygenated blood to keep them from building lactic acid. He does train up in the thin air of Colorado, so that can't do anything but help. However, we have seen him pretty winded after a 1st round fight. Adrenaline dump or cardio problems? We won't find out the answer to that until someone takes him out of the first round.

You guys realize this game is going to flop right?
I mean, to us, people who actually know the sport, yeah this game looks pretty good/ok. But hardly any of these fighters have mainstream recognition. I just can’t see the public flocking to this game to use these specific fighters.

I want to give it a chance, I really do
But this game just looks terrible, I think people are getting caught up by fanboyism. This game sounds like a videogame, and not like a real fight. The fighters are stiff, the motions just seem slightly… herky jerky, Keith Jardine-esque if you would.
I hope and expect the finished product to be much better though, so we’ll see.

The animations are smooth...
But at the same time maybe too smooth, it still moves like they’re underwater (just not as bad). Also the sound effects are terrible, they almost sound like an old street fighter game.
But I hope EA turns it around, they have about a month left of developing till it’s mostly bug testing and fixing time.

The transition from position to position is pretty good.
In UFC it’s so rigid like standing xxxxx clinch xxxx takedown. But I’m guessing they’re either hiding those positions from the video clips or the clinch positions will be mashfests.
Anyway they’re doing a nice job basically sniping the hardcore mindshare with the little details like pride lady and knees to the head.
the game doesn’t look better than the ufc game at all, and the roster is better in the ufc game.Who really want’s to use ken shamrock in a video game?
Who wants to USE Ken Shamrock: 0
Who wants to ABUSE Ken Shamrock: 1,000,000’s
From all reports she (Cyborg) pretty much only spars men, and has been known to put some out during training. - Rudinho479
