UFC on Versus 2 Preview: Takanori Gomi Talks American Fighters and Tyson Griffin
"[Kenny Florian was] The first step in me learning about the American fight style; he was a real comer and he really took it to me. So I sort of got a gauge on how the American fighters are going to fight."-- Takanori Gomi vs. Tyson Griffin pre-fight interview. (video)
"Then I was at the UFC Expo later [lost to Shane Roller] and that sort of cemented the knowledge. So I think I really have it down how the Americans are going to bring it to me."
"[Tyson Griffin] He's completely different than Florian, the first guy I took on. But he doesn't loose anything to him in terms of aggressiveness. He's very aggressive."
"I wouldn't say he's the most strategically based fighter ...coming with some sort of big strategy. He's just going to come and come and come and really bring it. So that's going to be a challenge."

I really wish they couldve given him an easier warm-up fight to help him acclimate… I think tyson griffin is going to take this easily :(
yep. theyve definitely thrown him to the wolves.
gomi/fisher would be good.

That’s one of the perils getting a big paycheck. If you are earning one of the highest salaries in the division, they aren’t going to match you up with Octagon virgins making 5+5. They’re going to match you up with guys are on a similar pay scale.
whats Gomi's $ details?

Nothing against Griffin
But I really, really, really hope Gomi wins. The fall of Japanese MMA is making me a sad panda.

Not the most promising bunch on the horizon, it seems. Hope I’m wrong.

One of the biggest disadvantages the Japanese fighters have is size. They, as a majority, don't cut weight.
and it today’s game when everyone is good at everything. size IS a factor.

The real problem is that there really isn’t much in the way of promising new Japanese fighters period. Kikuno is the only Japanese guy I can think of who holds much promise for the future, and even he is a bit of a question mark.
IMO, Korea has already lapped Japan in terms of producing solid MMA prospects.
American fighter
What does he mean he didn’t know how the Americans fought until he fought Florian? It’s a fight. What did he expect? They were going to play a game of chess before the fight started. I don’t get his statement there. He knows what a fight is. It doesn’t matter what country you are in a mma fight is a mma fight.
Shut up, Tito.

His fight against Nick Diaz should have told him
but really, agreed. It makes even less sense when you consider he’s fought Bang Ludwig, BJ Penn, Nick Diaz, Jens Pulver, Krazy Horse, etc. It’s not like he was fighting only Japanese fighters in Japan.

Gomi's going to be EXPOSED.
I really think Tyson Griffin’s going to make him look bad.
Tyson will be far too fast
Gomi looked slow in his last fight, and that’s going to be terrible against Tyson Griffin. His entire game is based around being quick, darting, and keeping up a super high energy and pace for the whole fight. Plus he’s extremely hard to finish, you basically have to decision him.
I don’t see Gomi winning this at all.

Gomi
In my view the fighters from Japan have struggle in the UFC.I don’t know if it’s the cage or not but there records are bad in the UFC.

Okami is the only exception. For the most part, Japanese fighters have been AWFUL when fighting in North America.
LOL
That only proves my point.
Mizugaki has looked decent, but the fact that you consider a guy who is 2-2 to be a success only illustrates how awful Japanese fighters have performed in North America.
okami!!!!Gomi!!!
Really hope he wins, but i see tyson decisioning him, although japanese mma seems to be on the decline it seems korea is starting to do reasonably well with a few tough fighters
