Jones is too big for 205. He needs to start lifting heavy and punish the big boys. And Vlad is going to get heart-punched tomorrow.
Obviously, our understanding of the big bang and related cosmology is incomplete; therefore, we must pray to the water-walking zombie or burn in a pit of fire.
The next couple fights will show us. In the mean time, uber-LHW it is.
"I trained with Steven Seagal."
by B.H. Farnsworth on Jul 31, 2010 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions
his frame just looks like it’s begging for more muscle. He really is not very muscular at all. I mean he’s ripped and all, but if he stopped cutting to 205 and starting really lifting, he’s 245 easily.
Obviously, our understanding of the big bang and related cosmology is incomplete; therefore, we must pray to the water-walking zombie or burn in a pit of fire.
in a month or two.
Within 1-2 years 250+ will be much more natural for him.
I agree 100% he doesn’t look very muscular at all right now. He could gain 20 lbs before slowing down a bit.

And
that’s a lean 250. 250 of muscle, baby! Christ, he’s gonna be a monster by 2013 or so.
Obviously, our understanding of the big bang and related cosmology is incomplete; therefore, we must pray to the water-walking zombie or burn in a pit of fire.
Scary.
You have to think that he would be more explosive at solid, lean 250lbs with no cut than he his at a lanky 205, cutting 25-30 lbs.
Imagine the leap in skill and strength he could make in that time.

I think as Jones gets older he'll have to move to HW.
Once he hits the 27-29 year old range, he’ll fill out even more.

yeah
It might not even be up to him. He had to strip completely down to make 206. He might only have one or two more 206 fights after this one before he physically cannot safely make the weight.
Obviously, our understanding of the big bang and related cosmology is incomplete; therefore, we must pray to the water-walking zombie or burn in a pit of fire.
That's what its starting to look like.
He looked a little drained by the cut too. Nobody can be that lean and cut more than 25 lbs time after time. Like you said, in 1-2 more fight he may be trying to cut down from 240. He can do that, but he’ll pay the price.
"I trained with Steven Seagal."

No doubt at all
And he’s right in the prime years for putting on lean muscle mass. He is cutting too much weight in my opinion.
Obviously, our understanding of the big bang and related cosmology is incomplete; therefore, we must pray to the water-walking zombie or burn in a pit of fire.
IMO, it would be a good idea to start moving up now. Not only would he be able to put on more quality weight easier, but it’s easier to develop as a fighter in the heavyweight division. Within a couple more fights, Jones is going to face some very stern competition at 205 pounds that are frankly horrible stylistic matchups for him at this point in his career, when he’s still learning the basics and fleshing out his game. At heavyweight, the talent among the top guys really isn’t the same as it is at 205, and there’s a lot of guys who are quality fighters but not particularly great at any one skill. That would allow Jones to grow as a fighter much more effectively than at 205.

"at 205 pounds that are frankly horrible stylistic matchups for him at this point in his career,"
I’m growing more and more convinced that this statement can’t possibly be true. Not totally convinced, but in the fights he has been in so far he has faced a decent cross section of MMA techniques and style and yet nothing has really put him in a bad spot.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
The best guy he has faced so far in his career is Brandon Vera. Next closest to that is Matt Hamill. Pretty soon, he’s going to be running into guys like Nogueira, Rampage, Rashad, Machida and Shogun.
That’s a completley different ball of wax than what he’s faced so far in his career. Brandon Vera and Matt Hamill are just good, solid 205 pounders. The guys he’s going to run into soon are the cream of the crop. Those aren’t the kind of guys you want to be fighting with only two years of MMA training under your belt.
Check out my MMA highlight videos!
http://www.dailymotion.com/WheelchairBandit
For the most part, they are for Jones
Machida could be a problem stylistically for Jones. That’s a fight I honestly can’t predict – it could be a great fight, or very one-sided for either guy.
Rua and Anderson would be very difficult fights, but those 3 are about it.
Jones would ruin Rampage, Griffin, Franklin, Little Nog or any of that level guys.
Rashad, were it a possibility, would potentially be a good fight, but probably pretty one-sided for Jones as well.
Unless the weight cut becomes too large to effectively overcome, he should begin dominating the division at LHW.
"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." -Author Schopenhauer

Anyone with a good guard and a technical striking game is going to give Jones fits at this point. If Brandon Vera had any sort of a guard game, he would have taken Jones’ arm home with him as a trophy. If he posts his arm like that in guard against Machida, Rua, Nogueira, hell even Forrest Griffin, he’s getting tapped.
Remember, we’ve only seen Jones beat up Brandon Vera and Matt Hamill at this point. Those guys are solid, but they don’t offer a whole lot when you get right down to it. Neither does Vladdy. When he gets in there with the elite of the division, everything changes. He’s not just going to be able to toss these guys around and rag doll them. What’s going to happen when he has to go technique for technique with a guy like Nogueira?Machida?Shogun?

I was replying...
to your point about styles giving him fits. I don’t see it happening.
There might be a guy, like Anderson Silva, who has physical capabilities the defy the who “styles make fights” concept, that would be a hard match up. Anderson’s speed and ability to judge distance are, in my opinion, just not things you can really train…hone, yes, but not train into a fighter.
However, I am quickly becoming of the opinion that you can’t say a guy with style/technique “X” is going to be the answer to Jones. I just don’t see it.
What will give him fits is someone just like him, fast and creative. Someone who could beat him to the punch and keep him off balance…but that really isn’t a style as much as it is a quality.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
Jon Jones should cut to 170 along with James Irvin and then they can fight like two anatomy class skeletons

I’m in the camp who find her, well, not so smoking. She’s borderline ugly in my opinion, don’t like that face of hers.. body is ok, but nothing special. Bad, bad choice of replacement for Natasha and Logan! But, to each their own.

Per Sherdog;
Johnson originally weighed in at 172.5 pounds. He tried to lose the additional weight but only dropped half a pound, according to UFC.com, and doctors would not afford him any further attempts. He will fight Riddle at 172 pounds and was docked 20 percent of his purse.
