MMA Live Previews UFC on Versus 2 - Mauricio "Shogun" Rua Out Till Spring or Early Summer of 2011

MMA Live: 7-29-10
MMA Live welcomes in UFC president Dana White, who has some breaking news on the next heavyweight contender. Plus, word on how long it could take Jon Jones to get a title shot. Also, UFC lightweight Ross Pearson previews his fight with Cole Miller.
[UPDATE] - Dana White talks about the timetable for Shogun's return:
White pointed to spring or early summer of 2011 as the return time for Shogun. [Rashad] Evans responded, "That's a long way for your boy." Then he asked if there would be a interim title belt up for grabs at 205 pounds. Dana responded - "No interim title."

Evans was offered a chance to fight at UFC 119 against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in a co-main event with Quinton Jackson versus Lyoto Machida. He turned it down. Evans could be facing roughly 12 months off if Rua is out until early June.

I miss Kenny Florian.

same

if they had kenny and helwani on the show with anik it’d be way better, i like torres but hes really just not that great of an analyst and ive never been a rashad fan so i have a biased hate for him

I prefer Torres over Rashad in this role

Miguel is more well-spoken and clear with his thoughts, while Rashad just stammers, mumbles and keeps repeating himself.

Torres needs to work on enunciation

I think he gets nervous and starts machine-gunning his words.

I have it the opposite

Called it before the fight:
Cardio - The BIG question. Does Shane Carwin have cardio? He's never gone past the first round. His muscle mass is astounding and we all know that with all that muscle comes a need for the heart to pump fresh oxygenated blood to keep them from building lactic acid. He does train up in the thin air of Colorado, so that can't do anything but help. However, we have seen him pretty winded after a 1st round fight. Adrenaline dump or cardio problems? We won't find out the answer to that until someone takes him out of the first round.

Ugh

Garreth A. Davies is bar none the most biased and uneducated mixed martial arts reporter out there. When he does breakdowns, he does not break down a fight he just says “British fighter is better than other fighter so British fighter should win.”

I mean crap, I write for the Cincinnati Enquirer and picked against Rich Franklin and Jorge Gurgel at times on the site. People need to break down the fights instead of being biased, not good journalism.

uuuh yeah I write for the Cincinnati Enquirer. Thanks?

I fully agree. He really lowers the standard of that show.

Chael should be on this show

I think ratings would skyrocket.

What are they talking about?

Why are they talking about Okami like he’s had a huge lay off? He just fought in April. (March 31st)

I guess Rashad and Torres don’t watch/read about prelims. I was also confused at them acting like he’s been out for a year, Florian would have never made that silly mistake.

Yeah, really bad. In such times we miss Kenny.

In this case it was especially peculiar since Okami looked awsome in his last fight.

by Sventsh on Jul 30, 2010 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah that was futile, uneducated coverage. It is the co-main event guys. Read up for 10 minutes before the show. Anik should’ve jumped in there and shut Rashad and Miguel down on that one.

Yeah, I noticed that glitch from Rashad as well. (Although I didn’t hear Torres mention it.) And I agree that Florian wouldn’t have messed that up; he probably would have gushed about how kickass he looked against Linhares.

Reply fail. That was meant for Myke and Noodles.

I don’t know if this is true of Rashad and Torres, I don’t know enough about them and don’t see them talking about MMA in general as often as other guys. But I hear a lot of MMA fighters don’t really pay super close attention to the MMA scene as much as some would think. Guys like Florian and Rogan who watch AND remember everything are the very rare exceptions.

I think you’re right about all that, but if you’re going to be an analyst on the show, you know what fights you’ll be previewing. Do a bit of research. Rashad and Torres just seem to wander in there off the street with no preparation. Watch the guys’ last fight or two, and do a bit of reading before wandering onto the “Worldwide Leader” to spew nonsense.

LOL

okami fought like 4 months ago lol

what a long lay off lol

by P86 on Jul 30, 2010 1:16 PM EDT reply actions

I don't like this system

where they let fighters have long layoffs because the champion is hurt. I think it should be clear that if you sit out and wait for a title shot you could very easily get passed up by active fighters.

ALL OF YOU LISTEN TO MEE, DON'T DISTURB HERE, I WILL CALL POLICE CATCH YOU, DON'T COME TO MY BANGOLOW HOUSE, UNDERSTAND, O.K. I HATE ALL OF YOU.

Indeed.

Effing stupid. So, what, Rua will have been out for almost a year and a half by the time he comes back? Rashad gonna wait that long so he can fight for the title? Gahhhhhhhhh

by nicey on Jul 30, 2010 2:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I doubt it

that’s why he asked DW, I think he was still hoping for Shogun to come back by December, but no way he should wait until spring of ’11.

the following two things are signs of weaknesses:
stay silent when it's needed to speak up, and speak up when it's needed to stay silent.
