UFC 116 Results: George Sotiropolous Outworks Kurt Pellegrino Over Three Rounds

"Iron Man" proved to be Batman's kryptonite tonight.
Sotiropoulos came out to the timeless Black Sabbath song and controlled Kurt Pellegrino for fourteen-and-a-half minutes.
The pivotal moment of the fight came very early as Sotiropoulos landed a left hook that wobbled Pellegrino. "Batman" didn't look to really fully recover over the next fifteen minutes, as Sotiropoulos was able to land power shots often standing.
The ground work heavily favored the Aussie. Pellegrino looked hesitant to take down the Rubber Guard wielding Sotiropoulos. When Pellegrino did land in top position, Sotiropoulos used a very active Rubber Guard to stifle Pellegrino, which also allowed him to throw viscous elbows to the crown.
Sotiropoulos did survive a late scare. With time running out on the fight, Pellegrino landed a brutal knee coming out of a clinch and followed up with a right hook, planting Sotiropoulos on the mat. Unfortunately, the bell rang and the judges awarded the Aussie a unanimous decision.

So much for Pellegrino’s mouth i’ve never heard a guy who’s done so little talk so much crap very happy that Geroge shut him the hell up.

Sotiropolous remains my favourite fighter.
Never boring, not even for a moment. Tireless worker. Supremely underrated.
Florian, then a title shot?
Koscheck eats it.
Got to see what happens with Florian/Maynard first
and that one’s supposed to be a number-one contender’s fight as well.
I say give him Sherk or Dunham to keep him busy until we see what happens with the Florian/Maynard fight.

Never seen Sotiropolous fight before and I'm impressed with his boxing technique
However that kind of technical traditional boxing style had me worried about him receiving that big knee whenever he bobbed and weaved. He could also take alot of leg kicks with that stance.
I’m a big fan of what he did, however I think he matches up badly with anyone who has proficient Muay Thai.
George and Ken-Flo
How many leg kicks did he check? None. How many big knees did he eat? Multiple. Kenny would out class him on the feet and out work him and submit him on the ground. That being said I think George put on a great performance and I’m glad he shut up Pellegrino. He landed some huge left hooks that Kurt made nol adjustment to and his rubber guard was flawless. Kurt said he didn’t need to train for the rubber guard…BAD IDEA!!
