After surgery and his subsequent recovery, Wanderlei can look forward to a big fight with Chris Leben (hopefully). I am actually looking forward to seeing Wanderlei vs Leben.

Good luck.

Wishing him the best of luck.

(I have this visual of a doctor asking a post-op Wand “So, Mr. Silva, let’s have you test the knee out.” Wand stands up, slaps on a a MT clinch, hammers 4 or 5 knees and a couple of soccer kicks home, and says, “Yeah, it feels ok. Little bit of work and it will be 100%. Hey, get up dude.”)

Despite him being deemed “The Ax Murderer”, this is one of the most friendliest and approachable MMA fighter in the business. I hope his surgery goes well and heals perfectly and that he can return and be as strong as ever.

The Ax Murderer VS The Spider. Has a nice ring to it no?

What a match that would be. The ultimate rivalry.

Hey, rivalries don’t need animosity.

They’re competitive, friendly rivals. I’m sure Wanderlei would like to clash fists with his old team mate again.

Me too

When he knocked out Jardine I jumped out of my seat and shouted for joy… while I was at home… scaring my neighbors.

Good luck Wandi, we’re all pulling for you to make a quick and complete recovery.

Wanderlei could give Marcus Aurelius lessons on stoicism. Hats off.

Had to hold back tears at my workplace after watching this. Wand is awesome.

Years of (speculated) steroid use hasn't left his body in the best shape

Called it before the fight:
Cardio - The BIG question. Does Shane Carwin have cardio? He's never gone past the first round. His muscle mass is astounding and we all know that with all that muscle comes a need for the heart to pump fresh oxygenated blood to keep them from building lactic acid. He does train up in the thin air of Colorado, so that can't do anything but help. However, we have seen him pretty winded after a 1st round fight. Adrenaline dump or cardio problems? We won't find out the answer to that until someone takes him out of the first round.

I have no doubt that Wand used steroids in the Pride days, but I also think he was smart with his use and don’t think it did any long-term damage to his health. Reasonable doses of the milder anabolics won’t do much if any damage as longs as you know what you are doing and don’t do more than 2 maybe 3 cycles a year.

Years of fighting (including old school bare knuckles vale tudo fights) hasn’t left his body in the best shape.

I wish Wand the best! He will always be my favorite fighter. I really do miss him at 205 though.
