Will Big John ref more upcoming UFC matches?

He’s not licensed in Nevada, but is in California, don’t know when, or if he’ll ever get a job as a ref in Nevada again.

Does he not want to be licensed in Nevada or hasn’t been given a license?

He left, and they gave his job away. They only hire as needed, so when he left, he essentially got in line for another job there, and they’re not looking for refs. At least, thats my understanding of it. Last time there was a big discussion about it someone was dropping knowledge bombs all over and thats what I took away from it.

Interesting

You would think they would drop someone like Steve Masagatti in a second for Big John.

and then what do they do if he decides to quit again?

by Phildo on Jul 26, 2010 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

Then they’re screwed. Not giving him a license protects their own asses.

it’s not the only reason, there’s other political nonsense involved, bu it’s the real world aspect that people tend to forget in this situation. He quit and trash talked them on his way out the door once already, you can’t expect the commission to be kissing his feet now that he changed his mind.

I don't know the name of it either

but the group is an unrelatable bunch of super nerds.

Its the Big Bang Theory and its actually kinda funny. Its the only 3 camera, laugh track sitcom I watch.

by DodgerFan86 on Jul 27, 2010 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s not funny at all. I consider myself a nerd for the most part and am a scientist and all that, and like truck said, you can’t relate to it at all. If the target of it’s humor doesn’t even like it, that’s a bad sign.

by Steven Abbott on Jul 27, 2010 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Out of curiosity, are there any current 3 camera, laugh track sitcoms you do find funny? I myself I can’t think of any others that I bother with anymore. Its a really stale genre.

thank god for urban dictionary

all the insertnamehereFTW comments never made sense to me.

I thought it meant F@ck the World, but apparently everyone else uses it as For The Win…it’s all so clear to me now.

Or to the Honda Center

for UFC 121, possibly reffing the Lesnar-Velasquez title fight?

id like to see him ref the main event at 121. He is one of the best refs in the sport. And any fight with Brock Lesnar is a very important fight with important implications on the outcome. Big Jon or Herb Dean should get this fight.

Rosenthal again?

I thought he did a great job with the Carwin/Lesnar fight.

My only complaint with his reffing in that fight was how he was vocally.

He frequently said “I’M GONNA STOP IT!” instead of telling Brock to defend himself. If I hear a guy saying that he’s about to stop it, I’m gonna swing away until I can’t swing anymore. Great non-stoppage, and legit win for Lesnar, but ya know.

And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.

Could someone give the cliff notes version of why he wasn’t reffing ufc? I knew he was gone, but have no idea about the backstory.

by Nellieball on Jul 26, 2010 5:52 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

He retired from refereeing and took up a media position for about a year, during which time he was openly critical of officials and commissions, he then decided to get back in to reffing around the start of last year. California and a few other states welcomed him back but Nevada said they had no room to employ additional referees.

Some thought Kizer and Nevada were making their decision based on spite because of Big John’s comments about them during his time in the media. Idiots and conspiracy theorists swore that Dana was responsible for Nevada’s decision despite Dana repeatedly stating he has no power over the ACs (and Mazzagatti refereeing constantly at UFC events should be enough to prove this).

The UFC has ran a few shows in states where McCarthy is licensed to referee but, for whatever reason, he hasn’t been assigned to their events until now. Apparently he was a judge for some fights on the WEC show in California earlier this year though.

by rabrown on Jul 26, 2010 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Lets not forget that although the UFC does not have any “say” they definitely have “sway” which is very powerful when talking about political bodies (especially in the US). Zuffa’s lawyers always ask that mazzagatti or big john be taken out of consideration.

I didn’t think it was gonna take this many comments for this but I’m happy someone said it.
