NBC to Air Women's MMA Reality Show

Uwc_medium

Per CagePotato:

NBC will finally made its foray into the world of mixed martial arts in September when it airs its Ultimate Women Challenge MMA reality show.

The show, which was originally scheduled to run last fall, will be hosted by Bas Rutten and model and Dancing with the Stars competitor Joanna Krupa and will feature some new and some recognizable faces in female MMA including Jackson's MMA product Julie Kedzie and American Top Team trained fighter Jessica Aguilar.

NBC has dabbled in MMA before -- airing Strikeforce in a pay to play slot at 3AM on Saturdays. They were in talks for to air a weekly Strikeforce show on a more serious basis but those went nowhere once Strikeforce grabbed EliteXC's Showtime/CBS slots. Cage Potato also points out that the UFC's legal team is likely to object to NBC airing an MMA reality show with "Ultimate" in the title.

Here's the promo:

I don't care!

Bas Rutten + Netwrok Television = Something I wanna see!!

Even if there are only two episodes, it will give us a few gems!!

That is what is was going to say. Either they plan on a lot of censoring or they don’t know who Bas is. Neither would surprise me.

The trailer’s pretty bad. Even with more professional production, I don’t see how this is a fall schedule show for NBC. Maybe Fox.

I wouldn't be so sure...

NBC has seen better times…

Meh.

Baldwin makes that show IMO. That character is beautifully written and Baldwin has it down pat. Morgan ranks a distant third behind Baldwin & Fey.

NBC stopped being a top-tier network several years ago.

This is why they don’t carry major sports. The is why they choose low-cost talk shows over scripted programming (recall the Jay Leno Show).

This is entirely consistent with the sort of show NBC would drop in the fall schedule. It’s an experiment.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

by Bandaka on Jul 22, 2010 11:11 AM EDT reply actions

Trademark, not copyright. Also, they probably have not trademarked the word “ultimate” by itself. But that doesn’t matter. If someone else’s logo or title is confusingly similar to UFC’s marks, they can go after them even if it’s not identical.

Lol she smiled the whole fight even when losing to Vera

It really drove home the “fighting is fun” sentiment Jason Brilz talked about after the Nog fight.

You usually see it with up and comers or fighters who lucked out and get to fight on a big stage and are truly happy to be there.

So I thought this looked like an interesting idea until I watched the trailer, good grief that was awful. People may watch a reality show about women fighting but it will be for the “reality” part of it not the fighting part, of course if the actual show is anything like the trailer then they won’t tune in for long.

Good find!

So basically this makes the show about a year old by now? Was supposed to be on air way earlier than fall 2010.. “Sept. of 09 or alternatly Jan 2010” on NBC according to pennyjomma in that post

Anyway, seems sketchy to have a MMA reality show not affiliated with Zuffa that’s called UWC. Ultimate Women Challenge.. come on, that shit won’t fly.

Our contract stipulates we air in Sept. of 09 or alternatly Jan 2010

The show will air on Sat and Sun afternoons between the hours of 11am and 4 pm

There are 13 episodes

We have Chris Cyborge as one of our coaches!
Bas Rutten is one of our hosts

The final cast members to date are:
