Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou Faces Houston Alexander at Shark Fights 13
From the official press release:
Texas based mixed martial arts fight promotion company, Shark Fight Promotions, announced today that Rameau Thierry "The African Assassin" Sokoudjou will face Houston "The Assassin" Alexander in the co-main event at Shark Fights 13. Shark Fights 13 will take place Saturday, September 11, at the Amarillo Civic Center in Amarillo, Texas.
According to Brent Medley, president of Shark Fight Promotions, "We are very excited to have Sokoudjou vs. Houston Alexander as our co-main event on the Shark Fights 13 card. Both fighters have impressive knockouts on their records and have thrown down with a long list of tough, notable opponents. This will be no different. This is a very important fight for both fighters and a great opportunity for them to prove to the fans that they are still top contenders in the sport. Be prepared for a full on battle between Sokoudjou and Alexander on September 11!"
It's plenty easy to write this off as a who cares fight between two guys who are no longer relevant but this is a very fun fight for a more "regional" promotion. It also is a very interesting story as both men came out of nowhere to shock the MMA world with KO's of respected opponents (Soko with his Arona and Nogueira KO's and Alexander with the Jardine and, to a lessar extent, Sakara KO's).
This bout joins the previously announced Keith Jardine vs. Trevor Prangley bout on the Shark Fights 13 card.

"Ten more seconds is all I ever ask. That's the good thing I learned about being KO'd twice. You don't see it coming -it's like death- you don't plan for it so don't wait for it. So many people are afraid of getting Ko'd that their hands stay home, but not me. I got to go out there and shoot the lights out and fall down" Jens Pulver

my comment from the fanpost:
smart matchmaking to potentially set up a jardine/alexander rematch. too bad houston’s gonna get ragdolled by sokoudjou.
wouldn’t be surprised to see the winner of jardine/prangley and this match fight each other for a chance to return to the ufc.
My thoughts exactly. In fact, I think Sokoudjou wins this and is back in the UFC fairly soon. I’m sure Minotoro wants a rematch.

I would say it would be a great first or second match for Arona when he gets back in the cage

Any chance of an HDNet broadcast?
I believe any of the previous Shark Fights events have aired on HDNet.
Any chance of BE staff contacting Brent Medley to see if a deal with HDNet is possible or in the works?
don't believe
I meant to say I don’t believe any previous events have aired on HDNet.
What makes this so cool to me
is that I have family that live in Amarillo, Texas. That’s awesome.
Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.
I wish people treated MMA fighters like fans treat golfers or tennis players. Just because you cant win every match doesnt mean your a hasbeen

Well…there is a really huge difference in one-on-one fighting and golf which features a large field with only one winner and tennis which is a very large tournament format.

But at least we can try to capture that tennis or golf perspective. If Nadal or Federer get upset, noone says is that it for their career? No, spectators will just comment on how the better man won that match.
It’s true losses in MMA take on way too much significance because there is such a small data sample. When Federer lost to Berdych nobody proposed that Berdych should be ranked above Federer, all of a sudden.
Goldberg on Leben: One thing's for sure--he really did break that door on the Ultimate Fighter.
Rogan: uh...yeah.
Whats up with all the TX cards lately? Not complaining, just curious. BTW Alexander gets smoked.

Shark Fights is building up a BIG regional following
there’s not a lot of competition for the entertainment dollar in that part of Texas — it’s about 8 hours north of Dallas.

I get the panhandle trying to make a buck, but Strikeforce and The UFC within a month of eachother in two neighboring big cities in TX…seems kind of strange

A Sokoudjou Jardine fight would be a great main event for a show like this if/when both win their fights.
We got a chance to meet Houston Alexander in Columbus...
He is literally one of the nicest people I have ever met. I hope he does well in future fights.
At USC we're not snobs, we're just better than you.
I hope he does well too, but after losing to Kimbo, his stock really dropped.

Doesn’t jardine vs Alexander make more sense?

Houston got this
He will put on a Kalib Starnes performance like he did against Kimbo which will have Soko gassed by round 2 as usual and it will be over.
I don’t care if Houston wins or not. I love that guy. What he has gone through with his daughter, nobody should have to. I have met him, he is dedicated to his fans and is a great guy. A great guy with a really bad training camp.
