Ex-UFC welterweight Yoshiyuki Yoshida (11-5) has signed a three-fight deal with Bellator Fighting Championships and will debut for the promotion in Chicago on August 19th against last season's 170-pound runner-up Dan Hornbuckle (21-3), according to manager Shu Hirata.

"The Handler"

should handle this guy no problem.

I thought there were rumours of him dropping to LW when he got cut by the UFC? I think its something he should consider

"Ten more seconds is all I ever ask. That's the good thing I learned about being KO'd twice. You don't see it coming -it's like death- you don't plan for it so don't wait for it. So many people are afraid of getting Ko'd that their hands stay home, but not me. I got to go out there and shoot the lights out and fall down" Jens Pulver

The Japanese

just don’t dig weight cutting, it’s too bad. Could you imagine if Sakuraba fought at 170?

Hell, it would have been nice if he’d just stuck to 185.

This is great news. I was disappointed when Yoshida was cut from the UFC, but it’s a blast to see how the Bellator WW’s will do with someone like Yoshida. I imagine him and Hornbuckle will be a three round war.

"Caol Uno was like Mutoh. He developed into a star overseas and then returned to his home country a much bigger deal. Dokojanuse Mishima is like Kobashi because they both do moonsaults. Don Frye is like Stan Hansen because they are both fat dumb rednecks with mustaches." - Jonathan Snowden

I think he is certainly a solid guy for their welterweight division. I don’t think he’ll beat Hornbuckle, but i think he can easily compete with the Ryan Thomas’, Jacob McClintocks’ and so forth in their division. Solid signing for Bellator.

Yup

Yoshida will be one of the upper tier fighters, opposed to a crafty gatekeeper of the ufc.

I’d agree with that. Certainly good job by him staying in North America and competing for a solid promotion, where he can get good exposure.

I would like to see him is dream as well, he could be WW champ there

Bellator’s season 3 is looking really good. With only 3 tournaments we should get lots of good super-fights like this.

Hornbuckle should have no problems outgrappling Yoshida, or even knocking him out. Good fight either way.

really when Yoshida has gas and is not half dead in a fight he is a pretty good grappler and probably has equal to or better credentials then Dan. Yoshids #1 problem has always been cardio if Hornbuckle can make this a fast paced fight / war I can see him easily Koing or subbing Yoshida but if his takedown def still is horrible and is not vastly improved I see Yoshida winning a 3 round very boring decision buy just keeping top control the whole fight and having enuff sub def from top to stay out of trouble. Eather way its a good fight I am looking foward to bolth really need this W for there career

Still sad Hornbuckle lost tp Askren

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail." - Jack Burton

Askren is real skilled. No shame in that loss.

Dan will bounce back no problem.
I hope he makes it to the UFC someday.

I imagine we'll see them both in the UFC one day

and Dan will get his revenge

If Hornbuckle does not learn how to defend a single leg / double leg takedown or high crotch lift he will always have the same exact problem that showed it self in that Askern fight. The bottom line his take down Def was just horrible and it looked like he never worked a day on it in trainging. It seemd like he did not even know how to defend a takedown properly at all. That fight made alot of analyst look twice at Hornbuckles sealing and future and dial the hype down a few notches. I just see him having the same exact problems every time when he comes up agasint a good wrestler or grappler who has a good top game and can defend his subs.

you need to realize

one bad performance dosen’t mean his future is fucked. Hornbuckle is still young. He’ll learn and improve like most MMA fighters. IT’S JUST ONE FIGHT!!!

very true and I know Askern is one hell of a wrestler. We have seen alot of fighters turn a huge weakness around. I myself was just amazed at how bad his take down def really looked that Askern fight really showed a huge hole in Dan’s game that needs to be fixed and quick, So many had him as a future top 10 main stay at WW after the Gono and Thompson wins and now most are thinking they might of just rushed to judgement a little to fast on Hornbuckle’s future in MMA.
