Super Official 2010 Mid-Year Bloody Elbow Reader Awards
Time flies, doesn't it? With half the calendar year behind us, let's talk about the "best of" so far.
Unlike the normal year end awards, we're only going to be looking at the big 5 categories: fighter of the mid-year, fight of the mid-year, knockout of the mid-year, submission of the mid-year, and card of the mid-year.
For those unfamiliar with the voting process, it's very simple. You may vote for up to three candidates in each category. You do not have to use all three votes in a category, but you may not vote for more than three candidates in each category.
Candidates are eligible if they took place or existed between January 1st, 2010, through today (July 15th) in the United States calendar year. That means K-1 DYNAMITE!! 2009 is not eligible. Sorry, Japanophiles.
You will list your votes in order of preference, first to last. For example:
FIGHTER OF THE MID-YEAR
Shane Carwin
Ikuhisa Minowa
Dave Bautista
The candidates will be award five, three, and one point respectively from top to bottom. Most points wins.
HOW TO VOTE
Click on this link to e-mail me. Voting is not allowed in the comments. Any ballots found in the comments will be hidden, and your stay here at Bloody Elbow will be at my mercy. Title your e-mail "2010 Bloody Elbow Mid-Year Reader Awards". Do not send any additional text besides your votes, which should be ordered as I listed them above. Like the year end awards, if you mess this up, I will virtually rip up your voting card, curse the womb from which you came from, and disqualify you from life. I will even post a sample ballot after the jump just to show you how easy this is.
Voting runs until midnight on July 21st, Eastern Time.
Use the comments to discuss contenders and candidates. Choose wisely.

Yeah… those appear to be hypothetical examples. You name your own top 3 from everything you’ve seen.
I know. just saying it was brilliant in how he picked some of the most hysterical things.

But to be fair 108 was actually a really fun card despite the crap it got on paper.
Food goes in here
108 was my of my fav shows of the year so far honestly

UFC 108 and 109 were awesome except for their main events.
Great undercards.

I think there should be an additional category or two
I’m thinking about the Aldo-Faber fight, specifically Aldo’s performance, and that it deserves some kind of consideration but doesn’t fit neatly into any of the categories above. Maybe an award for individual performance in a fight which didn’t result in a (T)KO or Sub, but was still an excellently executed game-plan, intelligent, and dominating.
GSP and Aldo off the top of my head would both be eligible for their performances.
And what about a Heart category for that fighter with no quit — like Jan Finney, Faber, Brock, Leben, etc.
"Daydreams of a 'fair' world which would treat him according to his 'real worth' are the refuge of all those plagued by a lack of self-knowledge." -- Ludwig von Mises.
Merciful ass-kicking of the year?
It would totally win that.

Let me just say, card of the year should easily be Aldo vs. Faber.
From all reports she (Cyborg) pretty much only spars men, and has been known to put some out during training. - Rudinho479
Aldo vs Faber or UFC 116
Dream 14 was fun….but not as good.
God help me, I have a problem. I'm a Shinya Aoki fan. I don't know what to do about it...

The thing about Aldo vs Faber is, the sheer volume of fights we had. They showed all but one fight on the card (if I’m not really mistaken) and they were all excellent. That’s a blue moon sort of event.

Nobody really stands out as fighter of the year for me… Sotiropoulos maybe?
When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail." - Jack Burton
I’m voting Leben – 2 weeks, 2 wins, 2 upsets…

I don’t know about that. His win over Henderson was huge, and the upset of the year imho, but that was his only win in 2010. Leben is 3-0.

Shields beating Henderson
was a bigger upset then Edgar beating Penn? Come on now.
Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.
Valid point
But where Edgar squeaked by Penn (a lot of people still think BJ won that fight), Shields completely dominated Hendo. Maybe that’s why it seems like a bigger upset to me, due to the margin by which it was won.
