Mofeijao

This is going to be Rampage vs Rashad all over again. Obviously King Mo will be playing the part of Rashad Evans and Feijao will portray a frustrated Rampage who can’t throw punches because he’s too busy defending takedowns.

Wasn’t King Mo recently at Black House helping Anderson with takedown D? Wonder if Feijao and Mo sparred or trained together during that time.

Does anyone remember when Moussasi fought Soko?

And Coker said it wouldn’t be a title fight because Soko wasn’t a top ten opponent? How quickly that tune changes when you realize you have NO depth at 205 in SF.

thank effing god

this is easily the best match they have available. it doesn’t make much promoting sense, but nothing does in Strikeforce.
Fightwise it’s very intriguing. Neither guy has had many big fights. They’re a perfect and classic stylistic clash — ground and pound wrestler vs muay thai/BJJ guy. Mousasi very nearly finished Mo in the first and beat him in the 2nd. If Feijao comes in properly conditioned to wrestler and strike in alternation he should have a chance to win.
Before Feijao got caught by Mike Kyle he was a top prospect. There’s every reason to take this kid seriously.
King Mo is obviously a top prospect as well.
Love it!

feijao isnt even ranked in your consensus top 25 lhw’s in the world. How on earth is a guy who’s ranked 8th in your list fighting a guy not ranked giving you a woody? More importantly how the hell is that guy ranked 8th?

by mmalogic on Jul 1, 2010 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Name another Strikeforce light heavyweight that the could put in there? Heck name another Strikeforce light heavyweight……. For Strikeforce this is about as good as it’s going to get at light heavyweight.

I'd still like to see Roger Gracie vs. King Mo.

It’s not very meaningful, but one of the best wrestlers in the world vs. one of the best BJJ players in the world, each very green in their MMA game, would be way cool to watch and could probably co-headline a Cyborg mauling.

Roger Gracie has had 3 MMA fights since 2006 and only one in Strikeforce, Mo fought four times in 2009 alone. I’d like to see that fight too but it’s probably too early for them to be pushing that.

by who me on Jul 1, 2010 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions

well looking at the list there are 2 other ranked guys in strikeforce…

Sobral – which is out of the question

Hendo – who just lost to a 170lber so I suppose that doesnt work.

Jardine is available but can he get medically cleared in time.

I guess smoogy’s answer is right unfortunately the rankings dont mean much.

by mmalogic on Jul 1, 2010 4:55 PM EDT up reply actions

You saying smoogy is right about something (anything at all) is the surprise of the day :D

When you get right down to it this is the best Strikeforce can do right now and it’s a darn good match to boot. Mo holding that belt doesn’t mean shit but a 7-0 Mo against a 9-2 Feijão is a hell of a match between two up major up and coming talents.

by who me on Jul 1, 2010 5:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Simple

MMA Rankings, and the people who obsessively put so much weight into them, are retarded. Mo vs. Feijao is a great style matchup between two of the best LHWs in Strikeforce, and has the potential to be a very good fight. For the people who are fans of the actual fighting itself, this is good stuff.

by smoogy2 on Jul 1, 2010 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s ranked that highly because the people that do rankings have a hard on for tournaments, and he beat a guy that won a tournament in a different weight class.

by Phildo on Jul 1, 2010 6:29 PM EDT up reply actions

And beat #23 Sokoudjou and #10 Babalu at LHW.

by John Nash on Jul 1, 2010 6:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m not saying he’s bad, but i think he got ranked a bit too highly for what he had done. And now because people can’t/won’t correct after the fact, Mo is going to be ranked higher than he should be also.

It’s going to be fun to see what happens if mo loses this one.

by Phildo on Jul 1, 2010 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Phildo – I agree 100% with you . In my opinion MO is Ranked to high and the same with Moussasi. Bolth MO and Moussasi seemed to of gotten ranked way to high way to fast buy MMA fans, writers and journalist . I remember when some Rankings had Moussasi cracking there LHW top10 list for his W’s based on the Dream MW tournamnt and his other W’s in Dream alone before he even fought a single opponent at LHW. Even when looking at Gegards wins at 205 none really jump out at me, they are just not euff to get you a top 10 spot at 205 ? Sobral, Sokoudjou and Goodridge with Sobral being the best win buy far on that list. Don’t get me wrong now the Sobral and Sok wins are nice W’s for any fighter to have on there record especially the Sobral Win but none on that list scream out at me and none were in the top 10 at the time. Possibly not even top 15 at the time other then Sobral he might of been in the top 15 when Gegard best him ? I really think Moussasi’s Ranking at LHW came from alot of hype and over hype and possible future potential rather then on what names he actually beat in the devision and the same exact thing seems to be happening right now with MO. I guess the Moussasi W is solid but other then that Win who is his second best Win in the devision ? Mike Whitehead He’s not even really a 205’er like most people think. He fought most of his career at HW and even if you want to count that catch weight W its not exactly a win thaty blows you away now eather.

I just think a devision that is so deep with talent should not be so easy to crack into like the LHW devision is. I just did not see Top 10 LHW’s when I look at eather fighter buy there Wins alone right now. Bolth there slots in the LHW top 10 in my opinion are based on future potential rather then there accomplishments at the weight class.

also

people tend to overrate the champions of smaller promotions. See Ben Henderson at 155.
happened to Carlos Condit when he was in the WEC too.

by Nate Wilcox on Jul 2, 2010 12:56 PM EDT up reply actions

And it drives me crazy that they tend to do that Nate. Condit is a perfect example you brought up. A solid WW for sure but is he a top 5 or 6 WW ? No not at all right now in my opinion he at best top 15. So many websites had him in there top 5 from his WEC WW run but as soon as he faced top competition in the UFC he was brought back down to earth and showed where he really fit into that devision.

by Shocbomb on Jul 2, 2010 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

rankings are just for fun to me

I like them because they’re handy lists of fighters but i certainly don’t think they should guide booking decisions.
I think the way we do it adds some value because it’s an objective snapshot of how the pundit community ranks the fighters rather than a subjective opinion about who’s done the most, but it’s still ultimately a futile project.
Just like MMA will never really determine who the toughest man in the world is, but it’s fun to try.

Agreed.

Feijao was bordering on being top 15 until the Babalu, Mike Kyle, prelim fiasco. He took that fight far too lightly and SF fucked him over by taking him from a title shot to prelims when he was a star in the making.

He’s a legit talent, and I’d love to see him win this so he can finally get Babalu. Actually, Feijao vs. freshly released Jardine sounds great.

They should find something for Hendo to do and let the prospects play with the 205 pound belt. He has a belt, but he’s still a prospect, and so is most of that division. Who cares that a belt is there, just match them up as if they were prospects and let them grow into the belt.

by Phildo on Jul 1, 2010 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Its a good matchup

But wasnt Babablu supposed to get the shot after beating Lawler?

by IRodC on Jul 1, 2010 3:36 PM EDT reply actions

He doesn’t want it for some reason. I think he and Mo are friends or something like that. Babalu is looking to fight Henderson instead.

by JRN on Jul 1, 2010 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions

They wont fight cause they’re friends…I think.

They announced that and then Babalu said no in the post fight interview. Him and Mo are friends/training partners.

by who me on Jul 1, 2010 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Shame they pushed Babalu vs Lawer as a contender’s fight and announced that Babalu would face Mo before asking Babalu if he would. They are thin at light heavyweight and this is a good match up, they could of just saved themselves some embarassment and went with this to start with.

Sweet fight yo

Why people shittin on this? Of course the SF title don’t mean shit, but this is a killer matchup.

touche

but i’ve often wondered if logic is more than one person, sort of a Dr. UFC/Mr. Shill

I wasn’t shitting on this fight. I like it. I was trying to say it’s a rough matchup for Feijao that’s all. Dr. Octagon is Kool Keith reference btw. I am definitely not a UFC mark or a shill.

More the title of a position than an actual person? Hmmm. If we went through all his posts we could probably identify tell signs for the different logics: “Hey, Competitor’s Suck-logic must be filling in for Data-Trending-UFC’s-Way-Logic. Man, I hope My-Creditentials-Are-Amazing-Logic is OK because he hasn’t been around lately”.

I'm almost positive this is the case.

I’ve seen him have more than one distinct personality and writing style. It’s probably three guys who handle viral marketing through the UFC who alternate when they feel like it, and I’d guess most of their stories are about what their boss does (travel to Abu Dhabi, etc).

If you’re actually referring to me this time then I’m afraid you got the wrong guy. The confusion came from the Dr.UFC statement. I thought it was a joke made toward my Dr.Octagon name. It’s pretty easy to correlate UFC and Octagon. I’m not part of UFC viral marketing scheme.

This is a great match up and will probably knock another SF champ off.

Of course Hendo and Mousasi would be better Rankingswise but they are both coming of losses.
