Josh Koscheck Says B.J. Penn Camp Behind Georges St Pierre Steroid Allegations

GSP might have thought he was done with B.J. Penn, but some grudges don't stop with the end of the fight.

From MMA Junkie:

"From what I've heard from other fighters in other camps, yeah, [St-Pierre] has done steroids and HGH, possibly," Koscheck told ( "I don't know. This is just on hearsay information that I've gotten.

"B.J. Penn and his camp gave me a little phone call. They were saying, 'Yeah, he's on steroids. He's this; he's that.' I said, 'Yeah, there's a possibility.' The guy is pretty ripped all year round."

B.J. Penn has long openly accused Georges St Pierre of any number of underhanded actions, including greasing and using steroids.

This isn't the first time that B.J. Penn's communications with other fighters has come out in public. He long claimed that Kenny Florian had texted him about GSP greasing in fights. That story was denied, but this later clarification from a Ben Fowlkes interview with Florian reveals something that didn't get much attention at the time, Florian DID text Penn, but it was to accuse Roger Huerta, not GSP:

Let's talk about the greasing text. You originally said that you didn't send any text at all, but recently you admitted that you did send a text to someone in Penn's camp about Roger Huerta being greased. Was that meant to indicate that if this guy who's trained at Greg Jackson's does it, others, like GSP, might be doing it too?

No, I never alluded to that. One of the reasons I didn't want to get into explaining that was because I don't want to be the guy who starts accusing people of greasing. I don't want to be the guy making excuses or anything like that. But since B.J. keeps pressuring that issue and talking about it, fine, [Roger] Huerta is who I was talking about if they want the story. It wasn't about Georges.

I don't have a clue about what he does or what guys at Greg Jackson's do. I have a lot of respect for those guys. They're all phenomenal fighters and I don't think they need to do anything like that to win. Greg Jackson is someone who I have never worked with, but I have a lot of respect for what he's done to raise the level of mixed martial arts and I'd never cast doubt on him like that.

While Penn's apologized for the steroid allegations, for some reason it's disappointing to hear that he's still so active on the fighter grapevine with his allegations against GSP. I guess I just don't like having my MMA fantasy buzz harshed. I want to pretend it's just about the training, the heart and the strategy, pretend that state of the art chemistry isn't part of the equation.

I also have expressed my sympathy with some of Penn's charges against St Pierre so I'm glad to see Koshcheck and St Pierre both agreeing to Olympic style blood testing. Here's what I said during "Grease-gate":

I don't expect GSP and Greg Jackson and Phil Nurse to be punished for what they were caught doing by the NSAC.

I do expect that they be scrutinized heavily for what they've done in future fights because I don't want them to ever consider doing it again.

Josh Koscheck and B.J. Penn will take the heat from fans for raising these issues and making charges against such a well-liked fighter as Georges St Pierre, but if that's the price for better drug testing in MMA, I'm glad they're doing it.
