WTF !! So they ...

… gave the loser more than the winner ?

Maybe you don't understand promotion

but the draw makes the most. In this case it was Pudz.

Really he ....

…was the big draw ? They promoted a card based around him ? Your right I really don’t get the promo side of this .

by MidWayMonster54 on Jun 7, 2010 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

It would be the local Polish population in Worchester buying tickets that would be the big draw for. Of course being that Tim Sylvia is actually from New England it really does make it funny that the guy from a different continent was the big draw :D

by who me on Jun 7, 2010 11:37 PM EDT up reply actions

He was the draw

There is a massive Polish population in Worcester.

Makes sense...

They probably got a ton of buys from Poland.

by GeoDim on Jun 7, 2010 5:45 PM EDT reply actions

Roxy got hosed

I hope they paid for her plane ticket, otherwise she fought for free (or negative). Sadly she probably won’t make much for in Strikeforce.

Women’s MMA has a shallow talent pool, the numbers up there are the reason why.

by EvilScott on Jun 7, 2010 5:46 PM EDT reply actions

It would’ve been nice for her and LaRosa to get some sort of FOTN bonus

by IRodC on Jun 7, 2010 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought La Rosa was the bigger name and her base was $500 less than Roxy.

by Dropkick434 on Jun 7, 2010 6:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Bigger name, but Roxy had exposure on Strikeforce.

by EvilScott on Jun 7, 2010 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah LaRosa

has been toted as the P4P top female MMA for last couple years and she made less than a UFC undercard fighter =(

Shame her and Roxy didn’t get more, they were easily the best fight on the card.

Shogun lost a close decision! Everyone get crazy!

You do realize this fight didnt generate 80 million dollars like a PBF fight would though right? Money doesn’t grow on union trees.

wow good for PUDZ bringing home the bacon. Atleast he got a nice cheque out of the beatdown he received

Pudz claimed in an interview that he eats 10 eggs, and 2 to 3 pounds of Bacon..for breakfast.

The difference is that Pudz works out, Sylvia plops on the couch and watches Maury Povich.

Women's pay is way too low

Roxy and Tara are Top p4p fighters.
They deserve at least +10k.

Otherwise no complains

by KOQ24 on Jun 7, 2010 6:17 PM EDT reply actions

No one came to see Roxy and Tara fight

It’s based on draw not deserving.

It is also based on the fact that not there are not many other options for female fighters.

by John Nash on Jun 7, 2010 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I cared more about watching Roxy and Larosa than Sylvia and Pudz.

Draw is a big part of pay, but you reward employees in any business that work extra hard. There better have been a FOTN bonus that wasn’t listed.

by EvilScott on Jun 7, 2010 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions

The problem lies with calling them “employees.” For all intents and purposes, these fighters are “independent contractors.” They fight once or twice for the promotion which is only fifteen minutes of work per fight at most for the promotion, but that is it.

In the dreadfully thin womens’ division, top 10 is not as much of an accomplishment as the mens.

And skillwise, are they really underpaid?

by bigweeze on Jun 7, 2010 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Did you watch their fight and the Pudz/Sylvia fight? I kind of doubt you did if you’re wanting to compare skill vs. pay.

by EvilScott on Jun 7, 2010 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Those two are overpaid, but you have to also adjust your expectations of skill when you’re watching superheavies.

130-140 lb women on the other hand, exist in a more agile weight class.

by bigweeze on Jun 7, 2010 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I repeat: did you watch the fight? It was pretty awesome.

by EvilScott on Jun 7, 2010 11:06 PM EDT up reply actions

The first round. I wasn’t that excited or interested, so I stopped watching.

The women try hard, as do most fighters who enter the ring/cage. But they just aren’t that good.

It’s like watching the WNBA.

by bigweeze on Jun 8, 2010 9:34 AM EDT up reply actions

Getting on the argument of skill is pretty dicey. The reason for that is that generally, the FOTN many times goes to the least technically sound fight (i.e. Garcia vs Jung or a Chris Lytle fight). One of the most historic MMA fights out there, Griffin vs Bonnar, was not at all technical or displayed this great amount of skill. To be honest, Modafferi vs LaRosa actually had a good amount of overall MMA skill involved (standup, wrestling, and BJJ) plus other factors like heart, endurance, attrition, etc.

50k is a solid payday for him considering his ability and conditioning right now.

by bigweeze on Jun 7, 2010 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Well

He’s used to 500K from UFC and Affliction

Shogun lost a close decision! Everyone get crazy!

by ShaiZ on Jun 7, 2010 8:29 PM EDT up reply actions

The UFC paid him 500k? I doubt that, even when he was champion. I could see 100-200k.

I don’t think his standards are too high right now considering he was fighting Ray Mercer in Alabama not too long ago and has been hoping that SF/UFC would want to pick him up.

by bigweeze on Jun 7, 2010 11:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Pretty sure his UFC pay was $100k + $100k when he left, of course he was at the end of a contract and getting ready to renegotiate with them a the time. We also don’t know if he had a PPV percentage or not (although I would bet he didn’t). For a guy who was making $200k for a UFC win in 2008 this is a big drop, if you compare it to his $800k for losing on Affliction payday though then things really get sad. It’s been a long way down for Tim Sylvia.

by who me on Jun 7, 2010 11:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I wonder how much they made from the PPV. If you take the number of tickets sold and multiply that by say $40 a ticket that’s $160,000 which only covers the payroll for the head liners. I don’t know how much tickets were but regional shows like that are usually pretty cheap. The cost of the the rest of the fighters salaries. venue, production, crew etc all add up.

Good to see Tim keeping the wolves at bay for a while though.

by j.villain on Jun 7, 2010 6:48 PM EDT reply actions

Well IIRC they plan on doing numerous shows so they probably took the financial hit on the first show to get the promotion out there, then hopefully start to make money over time. I’m no expert, just a thought.

Isn't Shane Carwin getting 50k?

Not a bad payday for a guy in terrible shape fighting a freak show in a small org.

by Electro Boy on Jun 7, 2010 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Have to agree.. considering how much Timmy’s stock has fallen lately, and what sub-par opponent he faced here, 50k isn’t all that bad for a relatively small show like this one.

by Horselover Fat on Jun 8, 2010 5:05 AM EDT up reply actions

In three fights Travis Lutter went from headlining a UFC card against Anderson Silva to fighting for 4k in a Mickey Mouse promotion

by TLow on Jun 7, 2010 8:47 PM EDT reply actions

One fight a year will do that, especially with Lutter’s training “program”. I recall him saying something akin to “I don’t believe in coaches” in one of the pre-fight programs?

$50K Sucks for Timmy.

Hopefully he invested the money he made from getting stomped by Fedor properly.
