Damn!

The UFC is signing everyone these days! The wave is building…….

Was just gonna say

UFC seems to be on a bit of a shopping spree…but it makes sense, there’s a lot of talent floating around. I think alot of people believe that ufc has all or nearly all top fighters in the world, but truth is there are tons of fighters those people have never heard of that can hang in the UFC.

Chiquerim is 17-2 in his career, and was the Shooto World Lightweight champion. After defeating Yusuke Endo in a rematch between the two at The Way of Shooto 3 on May 30th, he relinquished his title due to signing with the UFC. He is currently riding an 11 fight winning streak, 7 of them ending before the final bell. He’s only 22 and has a few holes in his game, but he’s a quality addition to the lightweight division of the UFC and his fight with Tavares should be very exciting.

If you haven’t seen Chiquerim, here’s his fight with Yusuke Endo from last year:

They rematched in Shooto last week and Chiquerim won a split decision.

I think Shooto now has two reigning champions left who are actually signed with the company.

They should let M-16 move up and fight Urushitani for the 123 lb belt. Who are the reigning champions they don’t have signed though? Aoki and Chiquerim dropped their belts, and Afghan Killa is signed to Strikeforce. I guess Hioki isn’t signed?

Oops, they have four – Somdet, Urushitani, Katsumura and Hioki. Their other champs have either vacated, signed elsewhere or both.

I think Somdet should stick right where he is, because nobody’s gonna beat him at 115 right now.

by Chris Nelson on Jun 4, 2010 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree no one can beat him at 115, but I think it’d be a novelty for him to hold and defend both belts. Shooto has always been pretty against weight class jumping though, I guess.

Hell Yeah so its final now. Last saturday night sunday morning after his fight he gave up his belt and people at the Shooto show thought they heard him say the reason was becasue he signed with the UFC, Nice addition

Is he Patricky “Pitbull” Friere’s brother??

If so Breen talked about him in one of his recent shows!

by Fizz on Jun 4, 2010 3:43 PM EDT reply actions

No, he's not

Patricio “Pitbull” and Patricky “Pitbull” are brothers…Patricio is competing in Bellator’s featherweight tournament, while Patricky is fighting on the Brazilian circuit.

Williamy Chiquerim is not related to either, although he did fight (and defeat) Patricky in 2007.

Pretty confusing stuff.

Awesome signing

although Tavares is a huge 155’er, and I believe Chiquerim is a bit undersized…that might come into play.

by Scott Haber on Jun 4, 2010 3:45 PM EDT reply actions

I think it’ll be real close, Chiquerim’s a crazy little bastard.

UFC making good acquisitions recently

Keep that lake of their from stagnating. Moving currents keep things healthy.

Unfortunately Dream is on the verge of closing up shop.

Nice acquisition… Tavares will be a great test.

Fantastic signing. Freire, Nedkov, Romero, and Petruzelli are all pretty sweet aquisitions.
