Ric Flair made the following quotes regarding mixed martial arts and its fans during a recent interview with the United Kingdom’s Mirror newspaper.
"MMA doesn’t affect wrestling at all."
"I’m not saying wrestling fans don’t watch MMA, but it is two different audiences."
"My take on MMA is that those guys are phenomenal athletes and extraordinarily tough and committed but the people that are crazy about them got nothing going on themselves."
"I actually think most of the male public that is crazy for that are living vicariously for something they can never be."
"Wrestling is more entertainment-based. MMA is what it is, those guys are out there trying to kill each other. And the guys that are sitting at home going "Wow" could never find that within themselves on the first day of their life."
"When Lesnar fights, I like watching Brock… and I recognize a lot of names … you’ve got to have so much respect for what those guys put themselves through but it is a limited time frame [they've got]."
"It’s hard to develop a star in that business that’s going to have any longevity. In wrestling a guy that develops a name for himself can do it fifteen years."

Longevity in Wrastling vs MMA. I'll take MMA any day.

you do know ric flair is 61 and has been wrestling since the 70's right?
and you’re comparing him to a 46 year old guy?
(and when talking about the shelf life of a fighter, Randy is the exception, and not the rule)

He likes MMA. He doesn’t like us.
If Derek Jeter clubbed a baby seal on earth day while wearing a mink coat and crocodile skin boots while burning tires on an iceberg, the reaction would be "Its OK Derek, you’re a Yankee." -First mammal to wear pants

I lived vicariously through pro-wrestling as a kid even more than I do watching mma today.
I used to stage pro-wrestling matches on the family trampoline daily. The figure four leglock was just one of the many holds I mastered as the Man of 1,000 Holds.

What, you mean like every form of entertainment ever? Every book, movie, sports event that involves the limits of human achievement or the fringes of society or escapist fantasy or rousing adventure? Maybe like wrestling with it’s roided-out freakshows and juvenile power fantasies? Maybe all the pro athletes that can jump higher than us, move quicker than us, run faster, achieve greater?
If so, then I don’t really disagree with anything he’s said.

Wow
Very well put, judonerd. I’m not sure why he felt the need to say that. I never got into pro wrestling but I had friends who lived for it.
What more can really be said about this statement?
It’s just filled with painfull irony.

Comparing the Longevity of ahletes in a sport vs pseudo-actor/athletes in WWE
is lolz.
You might as well say, most NFL guys don’t last 15 years. Most Soccer players are worn out before 15 years, hell even 10.
While a Pro Wrassler can compete for 55 years.
Obviously with any true competition, athletes can only stay relevant for so long with aging & injuries.

I rather resent the implication that I couldn't find it deep down to try to kill someone.
Not that I would seek out such behaviour, but if needed, I’ll do it.
