Strikeforce: Fedor vs Werdum Results - Cung Le Finishes Scott Smith

Cung Le didn't let Scott Smith make it to the final round tonight, finishing him in two with a brutal pair of spinning kicks to the body.

Their first fight was one of the most epic come backs in MMA history as Cung Le battered and bruised Scott Smith with a dazzling array of kicks before getting knocked out in the third round by a hard right hand from the gritty Smith.

Scott Smith came out aggressive against Cung Le in the opening seconds of their rematch at Strikeforce: Fedor vs Werdum. But Cung tied him up and survived the early assault. Le began to answer with punches but threw no kicks in the early going. Le staggered Smith with a straight left that forced Smith to shoot for a take down. Le stuffed it and fired body punches while working a front head lock. Le began tagging Smith at will when they stood back up then he dropped Smith with two knees to the face from the clinch. Again the front head lock from Le as time ran out on the round.

Le scored again with punches to start the second. Then he began to fire kicks, dropping Smith with a spinning back kick to the body. He followed Smith down and landed knees to the body. After a stand up, another spinning back kick dropped Smith and Le quickly pounced and finished his bleeding foe.

"Le quickly pounced and finished his bleeding foe."

That might be the best line I’ve seen you write, sir.
Cung Le is fucking awesome.

That was not a soloplex hit, I think it was a liver shot.

Smith would be a great fighter if body shots didn’t exist. Why is it he always seems to get taken out by body shots? Diaz did it, Lawler did it, Pete Sell did it, and now Cung Le did it. Not to mention how many times he was hurt by body shots in the first fight. I’m probably missing a bunch of fights, but those alone prove the point.

Gotta have more fighters like Le, Fedor etc. and how SF does things

Le is basically repping the traditional martial arts. We need more fighters willing to throw “unorthodox” techniques like this for MMA to continue to be entertaining. Much love to the UFC, but they have too many “cookie cutter” wrestler, muy-thai, basically boring hyrbrid fighters. Need more international flair, more guys willing to try different things. I know that the wrestlers tend to dominate MMA but I think Dana needs to promote the “martial artist” side of MMA like Le, Frank Shamrock and Cocker try to do.
