Strikeforce: Fedor vs Werdum Results - Cris "Cyborg" Santos Brutalizes Jan Finney

Strikeforce women's champion Cris "Cyborg" Santos beat game opponent Jan Finney from stem to stern for a round and a half before it was mercifully stopped.
Underdog Jan Finney landed the first punch against Strikeforce champ Cris "Cyborg" Santos. But Cyborg landed the next fifty, dropping Finney repeatedly in the first round. With two and a half minutes left, the ref docked Cyborg and docked a point for punching to the back of Finney's head. Finney came out from the restart game and swinging but Cyborg dropped her again with a little over a minute left. Then the ground and pound began, Finney curled up in the fetal position as Cyborg searched for a legal blow to land. Somehow, Finney survived the first round.
Finney again landed first in the second, but it didn't take Cyborg long to answer with multiple shots. Within thirty seconds Finney was again on the ground taking a beating. The ref seemed willing to let the fight go on and on with Finney doing nothing but hanging on. After a restart, Cyborg battered her against the fence. Finally Cyborg dropped Finney with a knee and finished it with a little over two minutes left.

Yeah
You should have mentioned how the ref let that go waaaaaaaaaaay too long. I think Kim WInslow should be hired by the CIA to get secrets out of captured terrorists

Balls: The Jan Finney Story
Bob Arum thinks I'm a white Nazi skinhead even though I'm a brown grad student (with hair)
Finney had no business being in there in the first place
I lay the blame on Coker and friends on wanting to show Cyborg off. Finney had no credentials.
I’m not trying to present her as some sort of killer, but she has a reasonable degree of experience and was riding a good showing in a recent tournament (that, granted, was supposed to generate a contender for Strikeforce’s 135 tournament).
What credentials exactly would you like her to have.
Kickboxing, boxing, submission grappling/wrestling credentials of some sort
Might be what he’s getting at. But for all I know she did have them, she was just offered a fight she never should have even been offered and unfortunately took it. They know the gals are desperate for a fight (Kaufman?) and are tempting them with stupid and dangerous risks. But I guess it’s not too different from male MMA ten years years ago.
I'm going to say that I think people are severely overreacting because they were women in the cage.
First off you got people dropping some pretty borderline sexist lines like, “Finney must have stolen the ref’s boyfriend in high school” and “women love to see other women get beaten down.” Then you have one particularly aggressive commentator straight out calling the ref a bitch, and others talking about how they never want to watch women fighting again. I’m not saying that if these had been men in this position people wouldn’t have been bothered, but for shit sake people were in the thread acting like they’d just watched a baby being put in a blender, writing posts that sound like the President after Pearl Harbor just occurred. I honestly think some people just have a complex were they just cant watch women as fighters because they can’t get past the mindset that women are delicate and need to be coddled.
To me violence is violence and I very much personally believe that I’ve seen way more violent beatings occur not only to other guys in MMA but in boxing as well, shit I’ve seen someone die from a boxing match. I’m also absolutely not trying to criticize anybody for just being naturally disturbed by what happened in the fight.

And tell’em why you mad son. Was the ref late on the stoppage? Yes, but the bitch comments were out of hand.

Which is exactly why I called the ref an asshole and a dumbass. No need to be sexestismical. Incompetence is incompetence.

I didn’t really think the stoppage was all that late and I agree with you 100%. If Cyborg had just really flurried once on the ground instead of throwing 2 or 3 punches on top and then stand around doing nothing, the fight would have been stopped way earlier. She didn’t, and thus we had a fight that went into the second round.
And, I am not someone who always wants fights to go on. Just a few weekends ago I absolutely vilified Arthur Mercante Jr. for his actions in the Yuri Foreman – Miguel Cotto fight, because I thought it should have been stopped. But I don’t think that this was that bad. I still think that Kim Winslow is a fine referee, and there wouldn’t be nearly this much outcry if it wasn’t a fairly attractive blond woman on the receiving end of the beating.

Finney had almost 2x the professional fights as Cyborg
I’m not saying she was evenly matched, but then who the hell is? Cyborg is awesome, in an old testament kind of way.
Any lesser person, man or woman, would have bowed out LONG before the ref stopped the fight. Finney is tough, but Cyborg was not afraid, so she was firing with abandon.
And maybe, just maybe, the ref wanted to showcase women, and was really hoping for Finney to whip out a sub, Mir vs BROCKLESNAR style, and didn’t want to sell her girl short by stopping too early. Who knows what’s going on exactly. Not me, not you (the haters).
I told you
that they needed to give Finney a taser to make it fair. Now I’m not even sure that would have helped.

Unbeatable?
Due to her strength, aggressiveness, and a lack of opposition, will Chris Cyborg be the most dominant champion in MMA?
The last point is probably the most telling
Beyond Toughill and LaRosa (who has been studiously working her way down in weight) nobody seems to be able to think of any other fighters that can really offer anything for Cyborg at present.
She’s hittable, and we still haven’t seen her off of her back, but I just don’t know who, beyond the ladies mentioned above, Strikeforce can put in front of her. It is just not much of a division.
I didn’t think it was a late stoppage, and I have no problem watching women hit each other. I’m sure Jan wouldn’t say it was late. A lot of people said the Mir/Carwin stoppage was late, but Frank disagreed. He appreciated the ref giving him a chance. After months of training and preparation, I’d feel the same way.
