Yeah this is defiantly a big fight. Nice to see HW fights like this again. It was the cornerstone for boxing at one point

A strong Heavyweight Division is key
to the expansion of the UFC. People want to see two big men in there, be it boxing or MMA or whatever. Boxing’s HW division is depleted and so was MMA’s until now.

yea, that’s what I thought too. Nice to see them get excited about a matchup too.

Why do I have this weird feeling that this fight is going to be huge disappointment? I’ve been excited for this fight since it was announced way back when, but no fight could ever live up to this gigantic amount of hype. Hopefully these big guys won’t gas too soon.
Lemonade was a popular drink, and it still is. I get more stunts and props than Bruce Willis- Guru
I think Lesnar v. Couture and Lesnar Mir II had way bigger hype than this fight and both those fights more than delivered in my opinion.

Jon Fitch said he favors Lesnar due to the wrestling credentials…… So are the only people who dispute the difference between D1 and D2 wrestling the people who competed in D2 wrestling?

Basically
Shane Carwin said on the UG that there is no difference between DI and DII wrestlers. After I stopped laughing, I asked someone to point me in the direction of DII wrestlers that won gold. I think they came up with 2 in the history. And those were at least 15-30 years ago. The gap grows larger and larger each year. Most wrestlers in DII are either not good enough or weren’t academically there.
Your elite DII champion wouldn’t be in the top 10 at his weight in D1.

Exactly right!
There is a considerable gap between the top D-1 guys and the top D-2 (or D-3) guys, as well as overall. Yes, once in a while you get a D-2 guy who really developed while in school and can challenge anyone, but generally speaking they are quite different.
JuCo and NAIA schools will occasionally have exceptions as well, but they have the added element of less restrictive requirements for student-athletes…
I had a lengthy debate on another site about this, culminating in a guy sending me a link for a scholarly paper purporting to back his position when, in reality, it completely backed mine (in fact it is from that paper that the NAIA part came from…).

In regards to the difference in Lesnar's D1 and Carwin's D2
I’d like to point out Ron Waterman’s interview wtih ESPN last year
ESPN: There’s also debate over Lesnar’s Division I honors and Carwin’s Division II. Do you see much of a difference?
Waterman: At the time, when Shane was wrestling, there was not a huge difference. Both were national champions. I think they had a few similar opponents. I had Brock in town with me here in Greeley and I took him to the gym to train with me one day and Shane was there; I introduced them. This was six or seven years ago. They met for the first time. They were talking back and forth about Stephen Neal
and other common opponents they had wrestled against. They had real similar outcomes.

Good stuff.
Especially since I happen to agree with it. ;)

this is not a wrestling match
so Brock is a better wrestler. I think Hardy got it right. Brock will get him down and pound him a bit in round 1 and in round 2 Shane will catch him. I just hope it is not boring clinch work for 5 rounds with two gassed giants.

The BEST D2 football and basketball players in the country
are better than 99% of D1 players. Overall, division I has better conferences; which creates better athletes through tougher competition. But, a D1 school may also compete in a weak conference against lesser opponents. These teams usually suck. Portland St. is a D1 school that could be beaten by some top high schools in basketball and probably football too. Conversely, there are a few D2 school that occasionally produce an all-star or all-pro athlete and a couple more that produce a decent NBA or NFL player ever couple years. Its all about the conference. The best conference in D2 is better than the worse conference in D1. The best D2 team/athlete would crush the worse D1 team/athlete. But, in this particular case, Brock was champion of the toughest conference in the country.
