Zoila Frausto with one of the most devastating knockouts in women's MMA history last night at Bellator 23 against Rosie Sexton. This was just plain incredible.

1st century, 11th century, 21st century. Humans haven’t changed much. We’ve always loved competition, fisticuffs and bloodletting. Nothing will ever change.

Drones are an attempt to extend the range the military can strike. They’re especially useful because they don’t need logistics or supply – you launch and remotely control them. As such, they are the next step forward in attaining the oldest tactics in war – control of territory. Different means, same end.

More killing of them, less dying of us... and thus more likely for "the people" to be okay with the violent option

This site isn’t the place to get into a longer discussion on the topic, but I’m aware that (as with the rest of “war”) there’s political motives behind drone use too, as opposed to “boots on the ground” (which TBH is still not, and won’t for a long time if ever, be superseded for control-of-territory).

On the other hand, HOLY CRAP did she basically duck right into the knee; it’s kinda like how Forrest Griffin walked himself right into that Anderson Silva lead hand.

I read that they both walked around at 120. But yer right, Rosi competed at 135 a number of times. Still, it seemed to have worked out for Zoila, this time!

seeing women get hit let alone KTFO, hence why I’m not a Womens MMA fan. Still have to give credit where it’s due, Zoila is a entertaining striker, Rosie was in the wrong weight division… and Meisha Tate has a spectacular back side….wait, what..

The way it came across to me is that he doesn’t mind if women fight, he just doesn’t want to watch it. It is pretty much the same feeling I have. I will support the fact that they want to fight, but I wont watch it.

this is why womens mma is...

barely relevant at this point. they aren’t even close to being in the same weight class. look at the still frame that the youtube clip starts at before it loads. there looks to be a 15 lb, maybe even 20 lb weight difference. that doesn’t make any sense to me.

by gumbaroo on Jun 25, 2010 9:09 AM EDT reply actions

Men's mma had the same problems

less than 10 years ago. Sports and athletes don’t evolve overnight. Hopefully 5-10 years from now, more women will be fighting in the right weight classes.

by ace328 on Jun 25, 2010 9:28 AM EDT up reply actions

the fight was a catchweight

both fighters made weight but Sexton still had trouble dealing with a bigger more athletic fighter.

Just like we are seeing in the male divisions, the athletes are starting to come into this sport and upset technical savvy vets. Frausto’s push after the knee was a stroke of genius, shoving a stunned opponent makes so much sense I wonder why we don’t see it as much.

People do not like to think. If one thinks, one must reach conclusions. Conclusions are not always pleasant.

2. Spencer Fisher flying knee on Wiman
3. Penn on Uno
4. Silva on Franklin
5. Frausto on Rosie
6. Fedor on arlovsKi (ha)
7. I’m pretty sure i remember a sickening ricardo lamas knee, but i don’t remember the fight. it was recent though

That’s going to be pretty tough after a KO like that. 1.5 months until the tournament.

yes

I was at the postfight press conference. Bjorn said if Sexton is medically suspended or if any other women can’t fight in the tourny, Frausto will take their place.

It was a 120 lb catchweight so I’m pretty sure Frausto could make the weight

I felt sick to my stomach watching that. I have no idea why either. Woman’s MMA is just not appealing to me at all. I never feel that way watching brutal knockouts involving Men’s MMA.

by F-DAB on Jun 25, 2010 4:51 PM EDT reply actions

125 lbs.

A 125 lbs. tournament would have been much better. You could have had fighters like Michelle Tavares who beat Lisa Ward. Also you have more challenges for Megumi at 125 lbs.

by MMAfan4242 on Jun 25, 2010 5:13 PM EDT reply actions

I just don’t get the viewpoint that it’s okay to watch men get beaten into bloody pulps, but you just can’t for the life of you stand to watch women hit each other. Violence is violence and I feel the same way watching this as I do watching Machida get his head bounced around like a basketball. They aren’t delicate flowers, they’re professional fighters that put in a lot of time and training and honestly the whole viewpoint, while it may come naturally to you, comes off as insulting and a little sexist against these women fighters. If this was watching little kids swing at each other that’d be one thing, little kids or maybe midgets dressed up as kids…but if I know they’re adult midgets then I wouldn’t have a problem with it…unless they were mentally challenged then it wouldn’t be okay again.

It’s the whole thing with women are “supposed” to be gentle, beautifully majestic creatures. And a lot of guys, me included, are still getting used to them fuckin each other up. A lotta fanboys got their hopes crushed in trying to tag Gina Carano cause they didn’t want their #1 fantasy to get torn apart. They all wanted the princess to beat the barbarian type BS. We can imagine them defending themselves or running away or maybe even dropping someone with a gun but in hand to hand combat battering one another is somewhat new. It never flew with boxing for some reason. I didn’t mind the Christy Martin matches. Give it time and everyone won’t be sexist about it. Cyborg Santos will actually get some respect from the casual fans for being a Beast for once.
