What a smart idea. Let you champ go b/c you think he is boring. Wow I see strikeforce has a great plan to build the credibility of the league.
Frank is just washed up and sad that nobody cares about him.

Dude, Frank is a legend and he is right.
Watching Frank act like a punching bag for 2 rounds against Diaz was much more exciting and a better game plan. Maybe if Shields fights Diaz someday, he can implement the “punching bag” strategy and impress Frank by getting punched in the head 420 times.

Strikeforce lets him voice his opinions on their broacasts.
Like it or not, they cosign everything he says during a broadcast.
that wasn't a broadcast,
and no, they don’t cosign everything that a commentator says… Just look at Gus Johnson. haha.
by Anton Tabuena on Jun 15, 2010 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions
I know that wasn't a broadcast,
but most of the crap he spews is on their broadcasts…
They don’t seem to have a problem with him acting completely unprofessional, which drags down their whole product.
Why would anybody care or listen...
to a single word that comes out of Frank’s mouth. He is the guy that says that any fighter that has knocked him out doesn’t even punch hard.

on the other hand it must no bother SF all that much eather on what Frank has to say on the broadcast ? You would think coker or someone would of told him buy noew calm it down or just stop . To me it seems like the total opposite is going on his vulgar and disrespectful comments and opinions on other fighters and glorifying himself over and over just seem to be happening more and more from broadcast to broadcast.
I myself just can’t get over how Scott Cooker or Showtime are the only ones who don’t see how really awful there whole broadcast team is. Pat miletich is the only one worth keeping in my opinion.
I think it was stated somewhere
that it is actually CBS / Showtime that choose the commentators and what to broadcast. They are also the ones who simply don’t know that King Mo’s entrances are worth watching and that fans want to see them.
I don’t know how they haven’t heard the negative feedback over Frank. I know the people there have gone out to say they are behind MMA for the long term, but I don’t know if the powers that be follow MMA enough to see what the viewers want.
Its not just him
A majority of people and MMA media, including me, called that Strikeforce event boring and criticized Strikeforce for using a CBS date for those fights. If Strikeforce wants to build their brand on more action packed fights, that’s their prerogative.
I’ve been more entertained with events like Diaz-Zaromskis than certain UFC events.
Yeah and when the commentary crew called Frank on his bad rapping Shields on air, he gave Shields a limp sorry, I'm a fan, Shields said "ok, but we still have to get it on"
Shamrock has turned down two very public chances to fight Shields, then he started making excuses. Ah he is no fun to fight, right Frank nice braces. There is one reason Frankie wants Shields gone: he is afraid for his ass.

Ugh. Shut up, Frank. This is terribly unprofessional.

His commentary is terribly unprofessional.
Listening the their people, especially when Frank is on board makes their shows somewhat painful… I’d rather listen to three unchecked Goldbergs than the people they have on staff at Strikforce shows.
Miletitch is waaaaaaaaayy better yet he is sent to the challengers shows.
I do not know anyone who likes Frank’s commentary
Brace face ??
Lol that’s pretty immature how old is your gf 5?? I mean I’m no shamrock fan but that was pretty much the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

She said what’s that annoying guys name… you know… the one who always talks shit and is super annoying… You know brace face… and it stuck.
There is no reason to stop acting like a kid when you grow up. Live life, have fun, never grow up all the way. Old school adults were boring and often miserable…
How is a member of Strikeforce’s broadcast team saying that their Middleweight champion is boring and signs with the competition NOT unprofessional?

Frank is terribly unprofessional on a rather consistent basis.

If only he could learn a little about keeping your piehole shut
From big “bro” Ken…. he is the ultimate professional, so modest too.
Wait…. what?
Just remember, Cung Le's kicks didn't hurt and Nick Diaz's punches had no effect on him
Yep those punches that Diaz landed on him had no effect on the way he thinks or speaks.
1) Kicks don’t have to be hard to break bones
2) Punches don’t have to be hard to to earn a TKO
3) Jake Shields has no heart and can’t take a punch
4) Fuck sakes, Strikeforce would be much better off without Shamrock commentating. They will never seem legitimate with him spewing his goop.
He brings nothing to the table other than his name recognition.

And his name recognition just brings embarrassment to Strikeforce...
at this point. He give the ramblings of an old man from a retirement center.

Well, I guess he kinda does because they think he is the guy from the WWF.
Lots more Frank Shamrock after the jump
Not really the way to get me to click on the story. Of course in the end I did.
Frank’s an important part of the history of the sport, but the way he talks about other fighters (at least these days) is very unbecoming for someone who should be “a face of MMA”.
while frank shamrock is a douche that is a solid point brought up by him, shields might be very skilled, and wins, but the crowd hates him… booed heavily in the hendo fight, and also booed in the miller fight. I think the guy is more boring than Jon fitch if that’s possible.
doesn’t make sense to pay a ton of $ for a guy no one wants to see fight, despite his accomplishments.
by kanodogg on Jun 15, 2010 10:24 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
It doesn't matter if he's boring....
It’s not a good idea to let go of a fighter who consistently win fights and to jump to a promotion with a big marketing machine. Especially one of the promotions champions.
not even the ufc will have the marketing power to make Jake shields popular. maybe if the guy can learn to throw a punch, if not standing, then at least on the ground. dude punches like my sister.
by kanodogg on Jun 15, 2010 10:42 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
You simply don't let your BEST fighter jump to to the promotion in the sport.
Especially one of the promotions champions and watch the fight against Verissimo to see him throw punches on the ground. If he punches like you’re sister, then you’re sister probably beat the shit out of you.
Jake made up his mind before his contract was picked up by SF that he was going to the UFC. His contract was an EliteXC contract not a SF contract. At some point you just have to realise that a fighter is leaving and make the best of it. It isn’t like Jake has been a huge asset for the organization. He has been talking shite about them since the moment his contract got picked up. He is a proven ratings killer. What is the point of dooming the organization by getting into a bidding war for Jake Sheilds?
It depends on a lot of factors. If a promotion spends a lot of money bringing in free agents and developing guys only to have them beaten in a non-exciting manner by Shields, is he really doing the promotion a lot of good?
Also, how much is he asking for? Is it more than SF is willing to pay? Does SF want to pay him a lot only to see him lose to Jacare?
by Pantherhare on Jun 15, 2010 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions
YOu mean non-exciting wins like his first round guillotine versus Robbie Lawler? Or his second round armbar versus Paul Daley? Or his 63 second chokeout of Nick Thompson? Or his first round rear naked choke versus Mike Pyle? Or his first round TKO of Charuto? All of those fights happened on CBS/Showtime as well.
Maybe if Strikeforce got rid of their idiotic ban on elbows, Jake would have been able to finish his last two fights like he finished the Charuto fight?
by Steve4192 on Jun 15, 2010 11:39 AM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
Agreed.
Was going to bring up that the elbows in the UFC will make him more effective from the top position and thus, could make him more “interesting.”
Agreed +2 Shields had 9 straight TKO's or Subs under the Unified Rules, he went up 15lbs because that is where the name fights were in SF, he beat 2 consensus Top5 MWs (Hendo and Lawler) and a Top 20 MW Mayhem, but elbows & he would have stopped them all
by mixmaster2669 on Jun 16, 2010 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions
I don’t know about the elbows policy, I think they should be allowed, but it is undeniable that SF brought in two pretty big names in Miller and Henderson and Shields devauled them both by beating them and hurt SF when he did it in a boring manner. He subbed those guys you mentioned, but he wasn’t that well known for whatever reason back then and now he’s known for being the guy that humped Miller and Henderson to a decision.
He’s an undeniably skilled fighter but SF’s goal for now is put on exciting fights with skilled fighters (Lawler vs. Manhoef is a good example) to attract eyeballs. Does paying Shields whatever he’s demanding fit into that game plan?
That’s the matchmaker’s fault.

Saying he "Hurt" SF
by beating two fighters is implying his fault in the damage of SF. Thus the hurt.
it is undeniable that SF brought in two pretty big names in Miller and Henderson and Shields devauled them both
How dare he!
I take it all back. They should have tarred and feathered Jake for ruining their plans. How dare he have the temerity to step up and win those fights.
The horror!
You missed the point
I wasn’t saying that Shields had to be punished, I was saying that for whatever money he was asking for, his liabilities outweighed the benefits he brought to the promotion.
I know it’s fashionable to slam Jake Shields right now, but the facts speak for themselves; eight finishes in the last ten fights (including Robbie Lawler, Paul Daley, Nick Thompson, Mike Pyle). The fact that he didn’t finish the natural LHW Dan Henderson (only submitted by the Nog brothers and Anderson; never KO’ed or TKO’ed) and the notoriously tough Miller (only stopped twice), shouldn’t make you suddenly think he’s super boring.

Jon Fitch hasn’t finished 80% of his last 10 fights.
Jake Shields is very entertaining when he gets the finish, and he has got the finish in 8 of his last 10 fights.
I thought the Hendo fight was very entertaining.
by Anton Tabuena on Jun 15, 2010 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions
It was until Jake started pillow fighting from the mount. Even that part amused me.
I'm a lover not a fighter
Maybe if Strikeforce got rid of their idiotic ban on elbows, Jake would have been able to mount some offense. He certainly put a world of hurt on Renato Verissimo using his elbows from the mount.
Exactly. Elbows are pretty important for ground and pound, especially for a guy like Shields that knows how to use them.

I thought the Hendo fight was very entertaining.
Me too, but arguing that point is a lost cause with the Jake haters. Finishes are a much easier point to make.
Enjoy paying to watch him! Dana’s counting on you!
by Tim the Enchanter on Jun 15, 2010 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions
Absolutely.
Some people enjoy watching excellence, even though some mouth-breathing knuckle-draggers can’t appreciate the skill involved.
I'm a fan of Jake Shields...
an undersized one dimensional welterweight grappler who “doesn’t have a chance in hell” against the #2 middleweight in the world… a guy who was a “sacrificial lamb” to the olympic wrestler and dangerous striker, who also fights at 205, ends up proving everyone wrong by completely outclassing him…
He also has huge wins over top flight guys like Lawler, Daley, Okami, Condit, Imada, Sakurai, etc etc etc etc…
Why won’t I like the guy? Cause he isn’t skilled (oh cmon)? cause couldn’t finish the notoriously tough Mayhem Miller (who also went the distance with GSP)? cause he has too much decisions (only 2 in the past 10)?

Whats good for the goose is good for the gander, Bashing fighters on the roster of the company that keeps him in work doesent seem to be the best idea.

It does when there’s a 95% chance that guy will be leaving the company. I think it’s pretty low, given what Shields has accomplished and his generally respectful attitude, but I can understand why Frank’s doing it.

It was gross how Frank was angling for a fight during Shields/Hendo. Old man braces should stick to the senior circuit.
Shamrock just looks and acts plain awkward
Its like someone who is trying as hard as he can to be articulate, but fails at every turn. Its actually hard to watch him and listen to him hang himself with all the nervous little inconsistent and contradictory comments.

You ever notice that when Dana bashes a fighter who just left his organization, his adoring cult members/fans clamor to do the same, but when Frank Shamrock bashes a fighter as a proxy for Larry Coker, only a few spring to his aid? Not taking sides, just found it interesting.
by Tim the Enchanter on Jun 15, 2010 11:47 AM EDT reply actions
I hate it when Dana bashes fighters too. His comments about Fedor are patently ridiculous. But just because Dana is an asshat doesn’t mean it is OK for Frank Shamrock to be one too.
Fedor
Well of Fedor actually went out of his way to make it a point to fight the best then maybe Dana and a million fans wouldn’t bash him. It’s a shame someone with so much talent is padding his record fighting less then best. This is a fact because everyone knows Fedor gets what he wants from these B level promotions who get pushed around by him and his management. If he wanted overeem he’d have him instead he chooses to fight a lesser opponent to pad his record. Don’t get me wrong Werdum is good but it’s someone he knows he can handle. He’s stopped thriving for the best and is comfortable wasting his talent on lesser fighters this is why Dana talks bad about him because it’s aggrivating.

i just dont understand why they let him and gus johnson call fights
honestly is their anyone out there who listens to them and thinks damn these guys are doing a great job
they’ve recieved universal negative reviews from fans and the mma media yet for every SF show they continue to bring these morons out to call the fights, it just confuses the hell outta me
We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!
I think it just shows that Showtime and CBS have more influence over the broadcasts than we know. I could see network people, especially those from CBS, just thinking that Gus Johnson = win and that Frank, as a fighter himself, must be qualified for the job and not a completely biased idiot.
