I can believe that it’s a number.

I knew Paul Buentello was 'roiding all along...
"It's fourth and fifteen and you're looking at a full-court press." - Lt. Frank Drebin, Police Squad
this guys an idiot
not really buying what hes saying
We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!
What he said is idiotic because i’m pretty sure the guy doesn’t know 50% of MMA fighters well enough to know they’re on steroids. The numbers is an ass pull. It’s an assumption.
I see your point
but perhaps it is an educated guess? Perhaps 50% of the fighters he does know take steroids and he thinks it’s a large enough sample size?
Remember everyone bashed Jose Canseco and just about everything he said turned out to be true.
Meh, all assumptions are idiotic then. And you don’t know if it’s an ass pull, as far as I’m concerned you’re making assumptions too. Does that make you idiotic?
I don’t know where he got that number, but he is kind of a veteran in the game, so I’ll take note.
I'm a lover not a fighter
Exactly
kind of a veteran in the game, so I’ll take note
When a veteran of a sport comes out and says something like this it should be a bit of a wake up call. It’s not just that he knows a ton of fighters, he knows the camps, managers etc. It’s much easier to accept what a vet is saying about his sport than a random guy on the internet.

Just got an email from HDNet with the headline: “A UFC Hall of Famer admits using steroids during his fighting career. Tonight EXCLUSIVELY on HDNet!”
Has to be Coleman right?
How did I end up on this bandwagon and why does everything say property of Chael Sonnen?
It’s only Chuck, Randy and Matt Hughes in there so far other then Mark, right?
Other then that, with Mark, yeah it was pretty obvious anyway.
Shamrock and Gracie are UC HOF’ers who both tested positive in their careers.

If 50% were taking roids more people would be caught. Am i saying that nobody takes them? No,im sure there are a number of guys who take them, but i highly doubt 50% of fighters take roids.
HGH=/=steroids
They are different things with different effects.
by Worldisart on Jun 11, 2010 2:19 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
So does laser eye surgery
Doesn’t mean they are the same. HGH and anabolic steroids serve two different functions.
There needs to be some real frank discussion in the industry about what constitutes an illegal PED, who’s using them and what should be done about it, if anything going forward. Between Koschek’s comments and now Hallman’s, it’s getting ridiculous.
And it doesn’t help that you have a huge fan community that is both divided and I’ll informed on the topic as well.

most athletes
lump all PED’s in with steroids

I really doubt it

That is like saying as long as most people have daily updated anti virus software, most would not get a virus
As quickly as they come up with a test the technology on the other side is finding ways to get around the test. Its like a ponzi scheme, neverending.
Most people wouldent. Unless they were at stupid shit like clicking a link for sex tape that doesent exist. Much like roid tests, the more that do it the more that would fuck u and get caught.
Well, that makes even less sense than the 1st statement
The fact is, all the evidence points to the fact that like everything in america. The better and more famous the athletes, the more access they have to expert technology, and they are always working on ways to stay ahead of the testing. Most of the experts have stated on the record that they believe most of the top athletes in fact use PEDS and in more cases than not, they are better at the cycling and masking techniques than ever.
Come on now
We all know that it has to be this guy. Look at the size of his cranium! It’s like sputnik!

Let's not forget
that Hallman is part of that 50%.
Hallman tested positive for Drostanolone and Nandrolone Metabolite, and Crispim tested positive for Desoxymethyltestosterone. According to Douglas, both have been fined $2,500 and suspended one year.

Maybe he meant 50% of the fighters, AT the table were using steroids.

I wonder what percentage are taking it for performance enhancers such as muscular strength and endurance as opposed to taking it to help heal an injury.
Yeah, that’s my question, too. Because he gave two options for steroid use, and then a blanket %.

I used to think only a few guys in every sport juiced.
However, after my experiences playing college football and becoming a trainer, I realized the majority of </strong all serious athletes are taking some form of supplementation. The best supplements are anabolic and catabolic compounds. Whether or not they are banned by an athletic commission isn’t always clear, but even when it is clear, it is more a question of legality than morality. ATP is the energy molecule responsible for practically all activity in the body, like muscle contraction and recovery. Taking creatine allows the body to create much more ATP then it could naturally. Therefore taking creatine allows the body to create more energy to contract or heal muscle fibers. No one knows the long term effects of taking creatine, but the short term effect are undeniable. The same can be said for many “illegal” or banned anabolic compounds, they alter your body’s natural chemistry by raising levels of compounds already found in the body; allowing you to work harder and recover faster. Many anabolics have been shown to be relatively safe when taken in low doses, although there is little data on the long term effects. Does taking creatine make you a cheater? What about Halodrol?
I am in no way advocating that ANYONE should take steroids. I have seen guys do too much and lose their fucking mind. Crazed aggression and violent mood swings are not cool.

Being in the scene of elite level college athletes myself I can tell you without hesitation that there is a huge anabolic PED population. Anyone who does not know this has never competed at an elite level. Im sure most of you dont even know that you can buy the majority of these illegal supplements legally in oral form that have been manipulated to pass as a legal supplement. And the masking agents and recovery products are also available for purchase. You should also realize that the majority of these chemicals are not taken to get huge or look big but to recover faster and be able to train more consistenly. Sorry guys youre gonna have to get used to the fact that people will constantly turn to science to enhance performance its not going away.

I played D2 rugby in college
And kids were juicing…

In theory
A fighter who doesn’t want to take dangerous drugs would feel forced to in order to compete with his juicing opponents,

That's not even theory
that’s reality. In a sport where money and success are hard to come by, every fight means so much. There is too much pressure to fight and win, it can be pretty much the only option for a injured fighter.
by B.H. Farnsworth on Jun 11, 2010 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions
It would sure explain how these guys can compete at such a high level at an older age. I am 36 now and it’s hard for me to recover after a gym workout. I don’t know how someone like Randy does it…oh ya..he’s the “natural” lol
lol

I would argue weight cutting is probably more harmful to the sport of mma than steroids. As real mismatches of size and strength take place not to mention the physical toll to the human body in general
PEDs can be very harmful and lead to mismatches as well. Bringing up weight cutting is a redirect from a much more serious issue.

Unemployment
You know Dana is gonna be ticked. Dennis Hallman just bought himself a one way ticket back to Strikeforce Challengers.
So......
there’s a chance he’s right?

I'd say there's an 80% chance that he's 26% right about half of this....
but then that means that there’s a 22% chance he’s 90% full of shit.

Taking steroids to heal injuries
is not the same as taking it to enhance performance during a fight. If you go to a hospital for an injury, 95% of the time, you will be prescribed some form of steroidal medicine. If the fact that taking steroid ever for any reason = cheating then 100% of all athletes cheat.
As long as they’re not on it when they’re fighting, who cares. The current system is not perfect, but it at least it prevents PED in the cage. That is the most important reason for steroid testing.
It does not “prevent PED in the cage,” it prevents it for those who can’t afford to screen their use.

It’s crazy what some people will do to compete at the highest levels of a sport. There’s a group of competitive powerlifters at my gym and a few of them are admitted users. One of them has been on test prop for 2 years straight!
Seems like the tools to test will always lag behind the science creating these PED’s. IMO they should just legalize use.
That would be more meaningfull it it was half or say 60 fighters but 6 is hardly any real proof of anything. Also i’m disapointed in Hallman the last thing he needs to do is running his mouth about steriods and worrying more about winning his next fight or he’ll be gone.
