Quote of the Day: The Door Is Open for Ricardo Arona to Join the UFC
It was better than I expected... [Dana White] said he was really glad to see me here, asked about my last fight, where it was, how it was and I told him and also said I wanted an opportunity to rejoin the [UFC] on the end of the year, a chance to be here and he said he wanted me on his event, that I have a space for me here on his event and that he only had to talk to his manager and then we would set things up. He said the doors were opened to me, but he would have to consult first his manager. It was much better than I expected, he was really honest and friendly, so it’s enough for me to come back to the hard trainings with an extra energy.
It’s more than happiness, it’s a motivation for all my trainings from today on. That’s what I needed to hear. He said we have to keep in touch, so I just have to follow these steps to come closer to the treasure.
First I have to worry about my knee recover and I said to him it would be a good thing for me to do a comeback on the end of the year and he said it’d be ok. He told me to take care of my knee while he consults his manager. He was very friendly and honest and so was I and now what I have to do is to keep in touch with him and I’m much closer than I expected.
--Former PRIDE star, Ricardo Arona (14-5), talking to tatame about the meeting he had with Dana White shortly after UFC 114 ended.

I think he could be like Rashad, in the fact that he can get you to the ground and just totally controll you. Although I doubt he has striking as good as Rashad, but he might have the Best BJJ out of any LHW in the world
if hes healthy
alot of these pride guys came out as damaged goods, looking at u mirko, and arona hasnt really even fought since pride so hes obviously damaged goods
however shogun rejuvenated himself and aronas only 31 so hopefully he comes back healthy and with his awesome bjj
We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!
I think Crocop is damaged goods because he’s fighting in a weight Division that he shouldn’t be in, his age, and because he’s had some bad luck.
Who would have thought Gonzaga would have Crocop’d crocop? I still don’t think Gonzaga could do it again.
Kongo…well that was just an awful fight.
Dos Santos? He’s a killer, and I think he’s the future HW champ, so i’ll give Mirko a pass…
gotta hold off on jds’ crowning until he faces a wrestler, so far every fighter he’s taken on kept the fight where it was most comfortable for junior, I know gonzaga took him down and he bounced up, but wrestlers are much better at top control.

And he KO’d Liddell, and Salmon, and he TKO’d Griffen. He has powerful striking, its just not his best offense, so he doesn’t use it so much.
So Dana said some stuff, and we are gonna swallow it whole?

So Arona says Dana told him the UFC would like to have him 6 months from now once his knee heals and you think we shouldn’t trust him? I’m not sure this story requires any paranoid distrust at this point. Of course the UFC will make Arona an offer eventually even if it’s just to keep him out of Strikeforce.

It’s Dana. He says everything to everybody. What is there to trust? Especially since this quote is being filtered through the guy with the most to gain by the situation.
How will he fair if he cant drop those knees to the head on the ground?

I would think alright. His main weapons are his subs and he is a decision machine. If Arona gets on top of you most of the time thats how the fight is staying until the round ends or fight
That was b4 Arona was able to use elbows Shocbomb
The Unified Rules should be perfectly suited for Arona’s game. I believe, had Arona been able to use elbows he would have had more KO’s and TKO’s. Not to mention the fact that he is a training partner of Machida, Nog brothers, Andy Silva and Jose Aldo. Arona is a perfect fit.

I know some people grumble about Arona
But I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.

He's talented aand sticks with right people
So if he’s healthy and motivated it should be fun.

When was this?
Silva looks so much bigger then Arona, yet Anderson has always fought at a lighter weight class. Unless this was at Bitetti? But even still, Arona has been walking around the beaches looking HUGE the past few years…
It was Bitteti.
The footage is taken from strange angle with Anderson being closer to the camera. Arona was 201.5 lbs in that fight. They both have deceptive look.

"Ten more seconds is all I ever ask. That's the good thing I learned about being KO'd twice. You don't see it coming -it's like death- you don't plan for it so don't wait for it. So many people are afraid of getting Ko'd that their hands stay home, but not me. I got to go out there and shoot the lights out and fall down" Jens Pulver
yikes...
If it was 3 years ago, I would say that Davis would lose in a few minutes. Davis taking Arona to the ground and trying to grapple with him would be a bad Idea.
BUT… Arona couldn’t finish a bloated Marvin Eastman, and he hasn’t been very active in anything besides surfing, so I’m not to sure what would happen. I still think Arona takes it though..
Arona reinjured his knee in the first round with Eastman, he was limping to his corner.

Excellent
A match with… Brilz sounds about right

Im excited to see Arona in the Octagon.
Arona + the use of elbows could = a damn tough fighter. Arona has the ability to control from the top, his sub game is at the top of the 205 lb division and he has an impressive resume. Arona in the UFC just adds even more top end depth to an already loaded division.
