Judges and Referee Named for Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua 2

Photo

Jordan Breen with the knowledge:

The RACJ has selected Yves Lavigne, Quebec’s most experienced senior referee to oversee the bout in the cage. This comes as little surprise, as it was expected the commission would select from a trio of Lavigne, the notoriously shaky Philippe Chartier and the less experienced Marc-Andre Cote to assign the main event duty.

The three judges scoring the bout will by Tony Weeks of Nevada, Sal D’Amato of Wisconsin, and Pasquale Procopio of Quebec.

Weeks and D’Amato were selected from a group of three out-of-province judges, the third being Nelson "Doc" Hamilton, who likely was denied the assignment as he judged the first Machida-Rua bout in Los Angeles last October. It is highly uncommon for commissions to select an official to judge a rematch after working the first encounter.

Breen goes on to mention that Procopio is a very inexperienced MMA judge but possibly the most experienced big time boxing judge in the province.  He also has up notable scorecards turned in from each judge, Procopio's lack of MMA knowledge means that his scorecards are all relatively major boxing cards.

Weeks scored Darabedyan/McCullough for Rob?

Sounds like he has trouble scoring striking exchanges, which wouldn’t bode well. D’Amato has pretty much always scored fights the same way I see them, so I have no problems with him.

Never heard of Procopio but as long as he doesn’t approach this fight with a Cecil Peoples mindset he should be alright.

The fact that Tony Weeks thought Brad Imes beat Rashad Evans and Chieck Kongo beat Carmelo Marrero, just has me praying that Machida vs Shogun doesn’t go to the cards.

Oh wow

Well at least we don’t have Peoples or Crosby.
