Reed Harris says the WEC could have three PPV events a year:

"I don't have the official numbers [for WEC 48] ... and it could take a couple months. [But] we had a number internally we were [aiming] for, and we far exceeded that according to the early estimates. I don't think that [three PPV shows a year] would be would something we couldn't attain."

...

Did you notice how they have not released the PPV #’s for the 1st one…they must be embarrassing.

When was the last time they released PPV numbers?

by Phildo on May 6, 2010 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Every PPV number for every UFC ever must be embarassing as well.

by ufc4 on May 6, 2010 1:09 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Nobody every actually releases those numbers.

All we get are estimates from people who claim to be in the know.

But I could give a shit how much money they made – that was an AWESEOME night of fights.

Oh, AND

If they’re talking about doing MORE PPVs, then do you think that means that the numbers are better or worse than they were hoping for?

That's good and bad

I can barley afford it when the UFC puts on two PPV’s in one month. I’d be less inclined to see the WEC as that second event (even though the last show was stellar). They have to come down on the price or work it out to where the WEC PPV is the only PPV for Zuffa that month. Or I can always whip out my eye patch and hook hand, but I don’t like doing that.

Did you watch Aldo vs. Faber?

If they can put on a show HALF that good, it’d be worth selling your organs to PPV.

It's not the best idea to switch jobs at the moment.

My feild is mostly construstion based work. But thanks for having so much faith in me. I do have a minor in bullshitting so there is a future for me somewhere. It’s not what you know it’s what you tell people you know.

"do have a minor in bullshitting"

Switch that to your major and you are ready for politics and tons and tons of kickback money. Doesn’t matter which party, they are both the same in this regard.

You can't come back from that.

There’s a point to where bullshitting becomes like acting. You can’t stay in that role for that long and still be a normal human being .

I’m in the opposite camp.

I will gladly skip a weak UFC event in order to purchase another WEC event. WEC puts on the most entertaining shows in the business and they have been doing so for the better part of three years. I am more than willing to support them with my wallet, and I don’t really care if it takes money away from Zuffa’s other MMA brand.

by Steve4192 on May 6, 2010 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions

There is no doubt the WEC's fighters puts on better shows.

But if I want my friends to chip in (or barter with beer) then it’s going to have to be UFC. They have the popular names and they’re promoted on Spike. It might be diffferent now that they’ve seen WEC 35.

by DayGeaux on May 6, 2010 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m fortunate in that I’ve got a couple of friends who really follow the sport closely and between the three of us, we can always convince another 6-10 people to chip in for just about anything.

Especially if it’s a card in California with Aldo and/or Henderson i’ll make the trip out again.

If they can make money on it there is no reason to believe they will stop at 3. That should help out Bellator and Strikeforce.

I wonder when they will be announcing the departure of Reed Harris. That was a huge kick in the teeth he took being yanked from the PPV.

As you can imagine, this is a big night for us…and so you know, Dana has stepped up and given this thing everything he has,,,and we couldn’t be more grateful. We are a team at Zuffa… all we want is for the event to be as big a success as we know it can be. Dana helping out has been huge!

Reed Harris

Where Logic at? I thought the WEC was as good as merged and Faber was going to coach in the next TUF.

This was a Faber driven event.....

Also, why are we hearing from Reed Harris now? Did Zuffa let him out of the closet they had him hid in?

This event was successful for 2 reasons, Zuffa blurring the branding and Faber being a legit draw. Without Faber I don’t see future AFFC events doing as well. They will do better if they do them in lue of a UFC PPV by at least 2+ weeks.

by JimJoe on May 6, 2010 1:35 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Ya I agree, The WEC doesn’t have the stars or the platform to promote those stars (UFC has TUF, FIght nights). They are essentially a one pony (Faber) show and his home town paper here in Sacramento wrote a piece begging for him to retire after what Aldo did to him. So how successful can they be?
