Much more competitive match-up than Sakara / Marquardt. Awesome job by Joe Silva on this one.

i agree.

Sakara was being led to the slaughter. This should be a really good matchup.

In turn they better set up Marquardt/Okami for 116.

again, i agree. Okami vs Nate is much better.

Damn I was just going to say that. Much better job by Silva competitive wise. Sakara was going to be fed to the wolves going in there with Nate. This is perfect matchmaking right here.

Awesome main card right here:

    * Champ Frankie Edgar vs. B.J. Penn (for lightweight title)*
    * Randy Couture vs. James Toney*
    * Kenny Florian vs. Gray Maynard*
    * Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara*
    * Terry Etim vs. Joe Lauzon*

Immediate fireworks.

I find it amusing that Edgar, Couture, Florian, Maynard, Rivera, Sakara, and Etim have all fought on a free show/preliminary card at least once in their last two fights.

Edgar vs. Veach at TUF 10 Finale
Couture vs. Vera at UFC 105
Florian vs. Gomi at UFN 21
Maynard vs. Diaz at UFN 20
Rivera vs. Quarry at UFN 21
Sakara vs. Skeleton pretending to be James Irvin at UFC on Versus 1
Etim vs. Gugery at UFC 105 (prelim)

And now they’ve all joined together to be on a PPV!

As a fan in Boston...

I’m excited to be going to my first UFC event, not so excited for the fights the UFC actually booked though.

really??? i’m in the same area, but randy and bj are my two favorite fighters, so i’m super excited. not too excited about florian/maynard, but at least it’s interesting in that it has title implications.

by woooburn on May 4, 2010 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions

well i hate randy that’s the first thing. history’s great and all but that doesn’t mean i want dinosaurs around (when u think about it’s really terrible). maynard bores me. i just never liked florian as a fighter. couture vs toney. that’s just a bad joke. i’m just hoping gonzaga is on there (another boston fighter) so we get something exciting.

I’m in boston too and I’m very excited. I got excited for the BJ rematch and Ken Flo fight. The Randy JT fight seems like a bonus.

That’s a pretty ridiculous thing to say.

Go BRUINS!!!

Best fight

Best fight on the Boston card so far outside of Penn vs Edgar.

I can’t really pick a winner here. Rivera looked very good against Quarry that it surprised me because he had a game plan and actual defense. However, Sakara has been coming into his own lately as well even beating some solid competition. Stylistically, it is going to be a standup war.

Awesome

This is exactly how these guys should be used.

When will tickets be available for this? I’m hoping it’ll be my first UFC event & obviously I’m pulling for Jorge.

Much better matchup for Sakara. Gonna guess Sakara wins by facial reconstruction. I don’t think there is any way Rivera knocks him out. Sure, Sakara has been rocked before, but look at the list of who has done that. It is a who’s who of home run hitters: Chris Leben, Houston Alexander, Drew McFedries. And let’s be honest here. I know most of us love Quarry to death. He is a great guy and will always have a home in the UFC in some fashion. But the guy was a high-end middle-of-the-pack guy who is clearly falling off now. Rivera took good advantage of building on his win streak with a win over a decent name, but that train stops at 118, unless he takes Sakara down and keeps him there. Rivera likes to stand and trade, though. We’ll see if he comes in with the right gameplan or ‘does what he does’. I’m betting on the latter.
