It was a big weekend in MMA, so why not have a big show? We've got a stacked line-up today with not a moment to spare.
Today on "MMA Nation" we'll be joined by one of boxing's foremost experts and trainers, the legendary Freddie Roach. We'll talk to Roach about Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, training Georges St. Pierre and the bitter relationship between boxing and MMA diehard fans.
Fighting at UFC 115 against CroCop will be upstart Pat "HD" Barry. Barry will join us to talk about his preparation for CroCop, life since the big win over Antoni Hardonk and more.
We'll also briefly check in with UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Marc Ratner. We will get Ratner's update on the efforts to have MMA fully legalized in Canada, how his Las Vegas office will work with Canada's regulatory office and more.
And, of course, we'll talk everything from last night's UFC 114: Rampage vs. Evans. To help us will be Rami Genauer from FightMetric.com:
- What's next for Rampage? How will he juggle the upcoming promotional schedule for the A-Team?
- Should Diego should return to 155lbs.?
- Is Luiz Cane doomed against southpaws?

I would like to know something more about main events being 5 rounds instead of 3. As far as I’ve heard, the UFC are allowed to do it.

I believe its up to the promotion to notify the AC that they have the intent of making a fight 5 rounds. Which the AC then approves or denys

Luke,could you please ask Mr.Roach about Cane’s ineptness against fellow southpaws?Is it common for a southpaw to have that many problems against another southpaw?It almost seems like Cane has vision problems-he literally cannont see that left hand comming.It’s unbelieveable that a guy who’s been fighting Muay Thai his entire career can’t defend against a left hand to save his life.

I really thought he learned a little bit of humility after that KO, but I guess it was just BS stuff he was throwing out there for the Primetime spot. But yea, seeing him in the weigh ins this time out and the MMA show, he hasn’t changed at all.

Luke, what did you think about the Nogueira/Brilz decision?
I think the biggest round in question was R1. Brilz easily gets R2 and I think R3 goes to Nog. I thought Brilz did enough to win R1 but Nog definitely had his moments and I didn’t think it was nearly as bad a decision as the Vegas crowd and internet commentators seem to think. What are your thoughts?

I can see that. I think when you expect someone to get dominated and they hang in there even; it looks like they are really kicking more ass than they are.

I am surprised that no one has been talking about Rampage fighting Machida next. I looked at the LHW division as a 4 man tourney, with the winners and losers of 113 and 114 going on to fight each other next. Isn’t that what makes the most sense?
I wonder if Rampage will be unavailable for a few months again for the movie promo stuff…maybe after that Dana and Silva will figure out who to match him with. But Machida and some of those other top guys will probably have already had their next fight by then.
Time allowing though, it would be a good fight to give him.

Machida/Jones would be incredible!!
I wonder if the UFC is ready to throw Jones in with Machida though. That’s just a HUGE step up from Vera. If the fight gets booked it will be awesome though.
Well, he’d have to beat Vlad in devastating fashion.
Another option would be to give Machida Arona in his first UFC fight. Or to give him the Liddell/Franklin winner.

I think it’s a combination. I think the MMA community has a fondness for Pride that makes them lean on any ex pride fighter, thinking they are better than they are. But I also think many fans don’t give Rashad much credit for his accomplishments.

Damn, no love for Rashad. He has beaten Chuck, Forrest, T. Silva, and Rampage in his last 5 fights. Why can’t he wrestle Shogun for 25 minutes?
The same Shogun who got completley outgrappled by Forrest and Babalu and went life and death with old ass Mark Coleman.

I wouldn’t exactly call it the same guy, saying this is the same guy outgrappled by Babalu is like saying the Celtics have to defend the same Kobe Bryant who airballed 3 times against the Jazz in 1997.
This will be a tough fight, I suspect it will be very close.

Still,the guy has had trouble with just about everyone who’s put him on his back and worked him over.Ricardo Arona excluded of course,but then Arona had 1,001 excuses of his own for that fight not going his way.
The only thing I worry about in a Rashad-Shogun fight is that Rashad isn’t durable enough to go 5 rounds without getting plunked once.And if Shogun hurts him,he’ll finish him.No two ways about it.

Everyone thought Shogun was going to get blown out of the water by Machida when that fight got made origanaly.It was just a forgone conclusion.It was viewed as a fight just to keep Machida busy while he waited for Rampage and Rashad to do TUF.
