"Everybody can't be like Randy" - Quinton Jackson

I’m not really a fan of telling guys to hang it up but I’m not really interested in watching any match involving Coleman or Shamrock.

But yeah, I co-sign what you said.

Not like either guy has a choice

Ken doesn’t work as a day trader, and Mark doesn’t instruct Dead poet clubs. Ken lost a dumb lawsuit on his half, and Mark is just Mark. These guys completely rely on this sport.

I think its kind of interesting actually. What a long journey both these guys have had and how they meet like this at the absolute death knell of their careers.

I mean I’m bad with money, but like there really isn’t any excuse for Ken and Mark to still be competing with the amount of money they’ve made over their careers. It’s no ones fault but their own and I think it’s a shame they have to be fighting at this point. But there needs to be a point where fans no longer support them, that’s the only way they’ll hang them up.

Shamrock made a ton of money. Coleman never really hit that big payday. What a shame.

Define pretty lucrative; even if he made a million bucks for his Pride fights that money goes quickly and his Pride run was a good while back.

That is true but I’ve seen guys blown ten to twenty million in much less time. Interestingly enough world class physical ability rarely coincides with financial management skills.

By the standards of the time. Meaning..not enough money to enable you to support yourself into your golden years.

Now this is a fight of the year candidate.

Seriously though, I know you need to draw people in, but there can’t be much interest in this fight outside of the Shamrock and Coleman households.

Maybe not in the states but bringing over the hill stars to areas where they haven’t competed before always drives up ticket sales through the novelty effect.

I wanna hear what don frye thinks, cause he promised me that Coleman/Couture would be a barn burner. I was hoping that the allegations Tito was facing were true, so there would be a chance of Ortiz/Coleman and shamrock/ortiz 4

Coleman has never pissed hot, and considering his collegiate & international wrestling background, he has probably taken more piss tests than anyone else in the sport.

I'll watch, if I can find a way

Sure, neither guy is ever going to fight for a mainstream title again, but they are evenly matched in terms of age and experience. These guys are super-rich former golfers or basketball all-stars – they’re probably worse off financially than most of the posters at this site. I wish them all the best.

You guys are boring.

I really want to watch this fight, and this has the makings and the ingredients for a possible remake of that epic epic night we once had. Add Tank vs Severn in the card and I am sold for sure.

i like this fight. i have no problems with seniors fighting seniors. i don’t like it when it’s billed as two current top contenders. so long as they have some level of gas tank, it’s interesting.

These guys actually have some history-Mark went out and trained with Ken for the Pedro Rizzo fight before UFC 18.

Gotta like Coleman in this fight.Shamrock has never done well against guys who could put him on his back and keep him there. If Shogun couldn’t leg lock Coleman,I really don’t see Ken doing it,so that limits his ways to win considerably.

Coleman is going to run through him

As bad as Mark has looked recently, at least he looked bad against elite fighters and made them work their asses off to get the win. Ask Shogun if he thinks Coleman is a walk in the park.

Meanwhile, Ken has been getting banged out by career scrubs (Buzz Berry? Seriously?) and finally resorted to fighting the morbidly obese in order to get a win.

by Steve4192 on May 3, 2010 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, a few months ago Coleman beat Stephan Bonnar. Does anyone seriously believe at this point that Shamrock could do that?

I like this fight, Bith guys will get a payday and though I expect them both to gas sometime during the first round I expect the fight to be competative at least. And I think that is the main thing, as long as it is competative.

by DayGeaux on May 3, 2010 2:36 PM EDT reply actions

Let them fight if they want

I don’t understand the sentiment by fans of wanting to see these guys stop fighting. It’s been their life-long passion, so I can see how this would be very difficult for them to quit. If they want to keep fighting, its 100% their decision. I don’t think either of them have aspirations of contending (or even winning that much).

I don’t blame them one bit. If there were still organizations out there willing to pay me to do what I love, I would do it till I die.

by neyvit on May 3, 2010 2:43 PM EDT reply actions

The problem is, I don’t think they actually ‘want’ to do this. But neither guy is skilled in anything other than training/fighting, so this is what they’re stuck with. It’s a shame..

by samuraisul on May 3, 2010 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m sure they both have other career options.

A guy with Mark’s credentials could easily get a job as a wrestling coach at just about any university. I’m guessing Ken could also use his pro wrestling connections to find a front office job within that industry.

Maybe it’s to settle which guy hates Tito more.
