I'm usually not too good with this. But after thinking all day about Silva v Sonnen, I had to write about my thoughts for this fight. It's probably impossible to think this, but I believe Silva could take a dive against Sonnen. Reasons after the jump.
1) Competition: Anderson Silva has just about destroyed everyone in the Middleweight division. He keeps asking for tougher fights, and has thought about making the jump to LHW, HW, whatever catch weight bout he can get, or even go to boxing like he's been wanting too.. This can be a golden opportunity for him to lose the belt, and make an official jump to whichever division he wants.
2) Money and/or Fame: Yes he is already famous because of his shenanigans and his amazing knockouts and submissions, but imagine a card with him fighting fan favorite Randy Couture, or Mauricio Rua, or hell against Rampage Jackson. This gets his name out even further, and can present more opportunities. Now think about him as a heavyweight. A fight with him against Mir? What about someone as dangerous as Carwin. Or, what if he can get a fight with Brock Lesnar. The fight alone could see at least 300K buys. If he were to beat anyone of those guys, people would want him to fight Fedor. Speaking of fighting Fedor...
3) Dare: If you remember, Dana White said if Anderson Silva acted like he did against Damien Maia again, he could cut him. Now (for all the pro wrestling fans), think of the, "Finger Poke of Doom." Or when Jarrett layed down for Hogan. Now think of those scenarios, and Silva's attitude. If either of those things were to happen, hell would reign in UFC. Dana White would lose his head, go crazy, cut Silva, and figure out where to go from there. Now if that were to happen, Strikeforce would love to pick him up, and can set him up in any sort of fight. With that idea, who wouldn't love to see him fight Fedor?
Would he take a dive? Of course not. Will he act like a jackass again? Wouldn't put it past him if he fights someone like Maia again. But of course these are scenarios. We will just have to wait till he fights Sonnen and see what happens.
