Nah, not the first time and I’m sure it won’t be the last (as long as mma in japan is around).

Overeem was -1800 against James Thompson

Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto (17-3) -1800 vs. Federico Lopez (4-2) +900

I know Japan is all about crappy one sided matchups for their stars, but this is just pathetic.

Except that this fight was going to happen on the recent Strikeforce card and only got moved because Dream needed Kid.

Cage x Ring

Toataly agree with Diaz that the ring and the japanese rules are much better for mma, it privileges the more tecnical athlete. Elbows to the head of a downed oponent is a rule that only serves for boring wrestlers.

I seem to remember Royce Gracie using them quite effectively in the early UFCs.

Elbows benefit any grappler with a strong top game

I don't like a ring for MMA because all you have to do if your getting your ass kicked is crawl under the ropes.

I can’t stand restarts, for everything that Pride did right fighting in a ring makes it inferior for me. Also elbows are a must, I can understand not liking fights that end with a cut but when I watch Strikeforce it gets really old not seeing effective ground and pound. Not allowing elbows I think encourages lay n pray and we all know how we feel about that.

while i dont agree about the boring wrestler bit, being a wrestler and enjoying it, i do agree that it would create more space for transitions and scrambles which would make certain matchups more exciting. I’d also be for yellow cards that didnt take any purse away but maybe 2 cards in a round is a point off or something. I like the cage though Ive seen alot of momentum swings with stand-ups due to rope interference. Personally like the separate rule sets from japan to ufc, i like the variety

I tend to agree with Diaz

Even though I love seeing elbows utilized well, removing them would allow for more effective wrist control to nullify top position wrestling. The complete martial artist should have the advantage, as it stands in the UFC a wrestler can be completely one dimensional and still excel.
