The Ultimate Fighter 11: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz Live Discussion (Episode 9)

Boom. Bloody Elbow's favorite TUF 11 contestant Kris McCray advanced to the quarter finals last week after he defeated "Mr. .500" Kyacey Uscola in the wild card fight.
Things went from bad to worse for Uscola. He lost two times inside the Octagon and once outside of it when a pack of dogs bit through his urethra outside the house. If you didn't cringe and reach for your little buddy when you read that, you're a stronger man than I.
The other big news from last week: Nick Ring is out of the competition. Ring messed up his ACL (apparently not the first time), and made the decision to pull out. For some reason, Dana White tried to get him to fight on one leg (with the potential for permanent injury). Do you want to be a f***ing fighter and all that jazz.
So James Hammortree stalks Dana for the replacement spot, gets it, and gets soundly beaten by Court McGee in his place. Well done, James.
Apparently this is the week we find out about that Tito nonsense. I hope we don't get Kimbo'd.
Join us here at Bloody Elbow to discuss episode 9 of the Ultimate Fighter: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz.

His first fight he slammed a guy so hard that his shoulder was blown out.
His gas tank has obviously taken a hit due to fighting as much as he has in such a short period, if he fights the same way after the show than I can understand the hate but he hasn’t exactly taken the easiest path in the house. Like I said, cut him some slack before you write him off.

I never said he wasn’t good. That is like saying Jon Fitch is not good. He may be good just one of my least favorite fighters due to his lack of offense of any kind.
Are you not reading what I'm saying?
He’s gassed. That’s why he doesn’t have much offense. If he fights the same way after the show feel free to hate and call him boring, but due to his situation I can see why he’s stalling a lot. He’s worn the fuck out.

I read your opinion, I have mine. Right now I think his style is being boring grinder. I don’t think gas had much to do w/ it as I think the fight would have been very similar if they were both tapered. Wrestling is important (probably the most important skill), but not making attempts to finish do make exciting fighters. Exciting does not dictate skill, simply fan pleasure.
Pet peeve of mine is when i post my opinion, and someone else posts theres, and then I get crap for not immediately agreeing w/ the other person’s opinion.
I'm not giving you shit for not agreeing with me.
You’re responding as if I said that his fight was exciting or that you should think that grinding fights are thrilling, which made me question if you were reading what I wrote because that’s not what I said at all. I was saying the fight wasn’t the best I’ve ever seen, but judging him based on this one fight is hardly fair given the circumstances and you shouldn’t write him off so soon.
"Sometimes hype just ain't enough." - Jens Pulver on his win over BJ Penn
by lowellthehammer on May 26, 2010 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions
Internet arguments blow, so I will stop responding here. But please read mine again before you accuse me of not reading.
Once again, you have your opinion, and mine is that he has a boring style. I also said i think that is his style and it won’t be much different if tapered/rested. Finally in closing for the 3rd time, I don’t think skillwise he is bad, I just don’t find him the most fun to watch. End of argument.
that is not his style
look up his pre ufc fights online. Kris’ fights never go past the first. Some of the most viscous gnp out there. Its the house, trust me.
No way.
It’s a much better idea to judge someone based on their fourth fight in a matter of weeks than on previous fights where they had time to train and recuperate their bodies.

apparently. This season of tuf scraped up a ton of the unsigned 185ers. All these guys are pretty much dominant champs where they come from, many with extensive backgrounds. I have a feeling some people are going to be surrised when the see these guys bang post-tuf.
Would the fact he’s had more fights than others really have anything to do with him gassing early or not? It’s not like the fights are all on the same day.
I’m not a fighter so I don’t know how that side of it works.
yes
and the two a day training sessions leading into the fights. You are only in the house for six weeks, meaning kris has been fighting probably something like once a week. an extremely active fighter may fight as often as 5-6 times a year… that’s someone who hasn’t been hurt in his fights, is almost always at weight and is perpetually training. If you do the math, that’s roughly two months between fights… and thats a little crazy. 3-4 times a year is a little bit more average. Kris has fought as much on this show as many fighters do in a year.
That should give you some perspective.
and after a rough fight, many guys will take up to a week off. they’ll just do some light cardio, a little bit of rolling, but nothing rough. Kris has made every fight but 1 a war of attrition and has had no time to recuperate.
The dude is definitely tough and has heart....
but that fight was a bit boring and lacked action due to his stamina.
I want to see that in writing.

i’ve trained at 2 decent BJJ schools and the lack of wrestling is appalling. I wrestled for 10 years, and I was landing any TD’s and throws i wanted on some purple belts and a couple pro fighters (in no-gi, so the bastards coudln’t grab my clothes) my first week. often got subbed once it hit the mat, but that happens less and less every day.
in pure BJJ schools i can get that they want to train on the ground more than TD’s, but MMA schools need to do more wrestling. too many focus way too much on BJJ and Striking, rather than on putting the fight where you want it

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
I’d like to soccer kick Ashton Kutcher.

Things went from bad to worse for Uscola. He lost two times inside the Octagon and once outside of it when a pack of dogs bit through his urethra outside the house. If you didn’t cringe and reach for your little buddy when you read that, you’re a stronger man than I.
That dog attack did not happen outside the TUF house. It happened after the show was done filming.
Just BE.
Both right
It happened outside the tuf house after filming was done.

No, it happened outside of his own house.
He was misquoted. He said it happened outside “the house”, meaning his own home, but someone added “TUF” in parentheses before “house” erronenously.
by Scott Haber on May 26, 2010 11:37 PM EDT up reply actions
so then it did happen outside the TUF house?
by blueballlefty on May 27, 2010 3:21 AM EDT up reply actions
Yes it did.
If it didn’t happen INSIDE the TUF house, then it happened OUTSIDE the TUF house.
Everything in the world is either inside that house or outside that house, and the dog attack occurred outside the TUF house.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

I find it hilarious when Dana says"chuck don’t break your phone" and chuck replies " Im not I’m gonna go punch him" haha

Tito, the king of excuses (I had a cracked skull)

I first would like to apologize to Brad for my comment after his fight. I saw the kick with his back turned to me and from my vantage point it looked under the armpit, but after the angle from the opposite side it looks as if the kick landed on his jaw line.
As far as Rich and his comments, my comments weren’t directed towards him at all.
I felt that Tavares decision over Hammertree was a bad call by the judges and that was my point of refrence, and Rich’s fight never crossed my mind until he complemented on my physique. Be that as it may, it was all worked out on the show and I and Rich resolved the confusion immeadiately after the fight.
In conclusion, congrats to Tavares and Seth, good job, outside of the kick. saul soliz

did he think tavares was faking the wobbly legs? still kinda douchy imo. and basically the whole team acting like they knew what happened matter of factly… ton of class there.
