Ricardo Arona wants to speak with Dana White this weekend at UFC 114, according to Tatame:
Focused on the recovery of an injured knee, the Brazilian hopes to go to Las Vegas this week, where he will meet the team of Rogério Minotouro, who will fight Saturday on UFC 114.
"I’m going for other reasons, to give a support to Minotouro, merchandising… Being there, I hope I can talk to Dana White, but we don’t have nothing settled or scheduled."
"I’m going to meet the guys… I don’t know if I’ll get there right on time, but I’ll do what I can to help him (Rogerio). I just came back to train now, on a calm way because of my knee, but this recovery part is almost done. I’m training so I can be at my best and can come back to business".

You are one of my favorite posters...
although you are almost never serious, I enjoy your sense of humor. Just thought I would mention it.

would love to see him healthy again
it sucks how so many of prides 205 guys left the organization broken down
wandys looks like he rejuvenated himself though and so did shogun, lets hope arona does too

Sorry guys but I have a feeling we are looking at a randleman/crocop situation here, not a shogun/rampage situation.
Anybody know why he disappeared for so long?

i generally agree. though i do think the UFC LHW division, which is not filled with many submission guys, is at least set up slightly in Arona’s favor. there are a few good matchups for him.
but he’s pretty one-dimensional, never really set up submissions that quickly, is getting older, hasn’t been active, and appears to be coming off an injury. maybe the brazilian tiger still has the fury, but it’s going to be an uphill battle.

I think best possible scenario, he’s a tough challenge for surging prospects and maybe a test for falling stars. He won’t be elite. Worst case scenario he’ll never come back from that injury. I would believe either.

yea but he could get some cool matchups at 205
ryan bader would be interesting, as would thaigo silva, matt hammil or brendan vera to name a few

The Randleman comparison is a little harsh, as he was never able to adjust to the advancements in the game even back when Arona was making his name. Cro Cop’s striking hasn’t advanced with this new generation, but if you’re a kickboxer or striker primarily like Cro Cop is, the limitations show up way more quickly than someone who is primarily a grappler.
He was never able to handle Rua or Jackson, even when 100% healthy. But I think Arona’s wrestling and submissions could get him past someone like Griffin, Thiago Silva, or Franklin. Unfortunately, I don’t know if we’ll see him at 100% again coming off these injuries, so we may never see what he really could have done against the UFC’s LHW division.
CroCop’s kickboxing didn’t just fail to keep up, it deteriorated as he focused more and more on one-kick knockouts, forgot his combinations and right hand, and had his cobra-like reflexes deteriorate over time.
Since power fades much more slowly than speed, Arona’s controlling, wrestling-heavy but well-rounded style has the potential to keep him competitive far longer than CroCop or Randleman.
no homo
but Arona is a good looking guy

Snag Arona but
(to me) he’s always been one of those guys that showed promise and then didn’t follow through on the fights…Sort of like Cyborg (male version)

Dude has only fought once in the last 3 years...
and it was an anticlimatic decision win over Marvin Eastman, whom has lost 6 of his last 7 fights… I am not looking forward to him joining the UFC at all. I would rather remember him from the good ol’ days pre-Pride Shockwave 2006…
