Please don’t play with our hearts Zuffa/UFC/Dana…..please.
It’s like that hot girl in class leaving a message, you’re so excited that you call back….only to find out she needs homework help.
Well something like that :P
I'm from Canada, and they think I'm slow eh!
I hate these “major” announcements by zuffa… always winds up being something that has been floating around the net for weeks.

More importantly, he was a good commissioner.
The CFL has had some grossly ineffective commissioners over the years. It’s not an easy job – you need to maintain the profitability of an independent league that cannot attract star players unless they’re somehow unfit for the NFL (Doug Flutie being the obvious example) – but Tom Wright had a great run.
If he can make MMA as popular in Saskatchewan as the Roughriders are, he’ll be worth his salary.

This is an appropriate time for a Dubya analogy.
Fool me once……. Shame on… Shame on you. Fool me twice………. The point is cant fool me twice.

Seeing as Zuffa HUGE ANNOUNCEMENTS OMG are never really that huge...
a Canadian Zuffa office makes sense…

Just like I mentioned earlier
It’s like calling that girl back…….she just wants homework help….
I'm from Canada, and they think I'm slow eh!
Next week, huge announcement in Vegas… They hired a summer intern.
Seriously UFC, what the hell.

LOL
But seriously…every Zuffa “huge announcement” is either a fight and/or event that’s already been talked about to death in the MMA blogosphere or something about them expanding.

Just because we have talked about it to death doesn’t mean it isn’t a big announcement….. The press conference wasn’t to appease the blogs… It was to a major move into a new area. This is still big news.

it was to announce a major move…. i cant type.

There's no doubt that Zuffa expanding to a new area is still big news...
It’s just that every time Zuffa says that there is a huge announcements people always expect some epic event for whatever reason…

You know.
I may not be doing back flips over this announcement. But, I will give Zuffa their props. They are the reason MMA is growing internationally. If Zuffa werent doing what they are MMA would look completely different thaen it does today.
If Russia attacked Turkey from the rear, Do you think Greece would help?
They don’t hold press conferences to get the attention of blogs and their readers. They don’t need to do anything to get their attention.
They hold press conferences to attract the MSM and their readers/listeners/viewers.
They don’t hold press conferences to get the attention of blogs and their readers.
I know. It wouldn’t make any sense if they did. I was commenting on the expectations that many people on the internet put on every “huge announcement” they make.

Your original comment does not really address that, but this comment here makes more sense.

i'm waiting for some sport to break the mold:
“we know our athletes are typically bad people, but they’re great at what they do. we all need to look past the person and just be entertained by their skills.”
I'm old school hating Lesnar, I've been hating Lesnar since '08
I wouldn't even say that...
it’s the branding of all participants of anything as anything. the branding of MMA fighters as thugs was dumb, the branding of them all as wonderful people is dumb. they’re like any other group of people in any job. some of them are awesome, some of them are pricks, most of them are just kind of regular dudes

I hear what you're saying...
But many people incorrectly believe that fighters are thugs and jackasses because of the few incidents they’ve heard of or seen and the collection of douches who sport Affliction shirts and act all tough in their communities…
Additionally, the mainstream media almost exclusively covers stories of fighters acting like idiots, so that is what the uneducated masses expect. They don’t see the good things and generally great people these guys are.
As much as it’s not needed for you and I – and somewhat tiresome to constantly hear – it needs to be reiterated so that John and Jane Q. Public start to realize that in fighters aren’t thugs, neanderthals or degenerates…

wasnt that the XFL's selling point?
If Russia attacked Turkey from the rear, Do you think Greece would help?
ha, even when they’re making these primarily business related announcements, there’s still stupid energy drinks all over the place.
Yeah no kidding, Dana and Co must be tired as shit 24/7…
On that note, Xenergy is probably one of the better tasting energy drinks out there, but that’s besides the point.

i will say i’m surprised with the canadian media’s knowledge of the sanctioning issues. don’t really see the same from some of the credentialed u.s. folks.
In Canada and Toronto specifically, MMA is treated like a main stream sport.

Dana & the Fertittas are such an awesome combo....
They are the genius business men with the deep pockets, he’s the Don King who handles the fight stuff and production. I can’t see this train de-railing anytime soon.
From a UFC business perspective I would say this is a huge announcement for the UFC. Especially considering they said Canada is now almost 20% of their total market. It only makes sense to have an office there now to help with merchandising, marketing and all that kind of stuff if it’s that big a market for them. So I think this was worthy of them doing a press conference in Canada to announce it to the media and to get it out there. It can only help keep them in the media which will keep the topic of regulation a matter for discussion.
Just BE.

It’s big news, it just isn’t the kind of think that grabs the interest of us fans. They didn’t give us any juicy sound bites we can pick apart for hours or announce anything that would get our blood racing. For some reason people expect every press conference they do now to have huge breaking news that directly appeals to them?
I love how nerds on the interwebs think they are the center of the universe. There are many people for which the UFC opening an office in Canada is huge news. And get real, they open an office in perhaps the hottest MMA market in the world and they wouldn’t hold a press conference to announce that?

I actually think it is a big deal and glad they held a press conference.

I know what it is..>!
They hired Fedor, and his first fight will be against Brock. However, that is not the big news. The big news is that Fedor must be dressed like the Swiss Miss girl, and Brock must be dressed like Liberace’!
your attempt at humor fell short. Sorry, I’m bustin’ chops today.

Tom Wright is an excellent choice due to his credentials and his contacts in the Canadian sporting world. Much better choice than someone like Shane, especially when appearance in the public eye will have a BIG impact on getting sanctioned. Tom Wright is very well respected. Have to say, this one took me by suprise. UFC is very smart.
