Maybe. But I predict he’ll step up and it’ll be Fight of the Night. But I’m callin Okami on this one.

Finally Okami is getting the respect he deserves.

REALLY ODD

I think the last time I saw Okami on a poster was Franklin vs. Okami.

Then again Okami vs. Swick was the main event.

Miller vs Tibau is supposed to also be on the main card

WAR MUNOZ!!!

If I wake up tomorrow and see that the world has ended, then that means God has finally granted my prayers.

GO Armageddon!!!

by boxingmouse on May 24, 2010 9:39 AM EDT reply actions

Did this world go backwards?

Prelim card warriors Vlad and Okami end up being the main and co-main respectively?

This card isn’t as good as the 1st Versus card (but that’s probably one of the best free cards they’ve ever put out on paper) but it’s still pretty deep. Lots of fun fights.

It’s a free card. It’s more like an introduction to a new breed to the casuals. Like “You never heard of us, but you will” type of deal. I wish there were more of these like StrikeForce Challengers only NOT on Showtime so I can watch it.

by Krimson on May 24, 2010 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Most casuals have never heard of Matyushenko.....

But once JONJONES is through with him he’ll certainly be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

I highly disagree.

I have Jones winning, but by decision. Vladdy is extremely underrated. Anyone calling for destruction seems to really not know who the Janitor is.

I’m picking Jones, but not by destruction in the least. If Jones DOES destroy Vladdy, it will be a huge shock and easily the biggest victory of Jones’s young career.

by Jonathan. on May 24, 2010 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions

It's also possible Jones just batters him for 3 rounds

IDK anything about Matyushenko but at the rate Jones is going, it’s gonna be hard to find a guy that’ll stunt his rise. I still say that this isn’t a fight for him to just win decisively and possibly be a poster boy for the UFC (young, versatile, “finish fights” potential, etc.). This card is full of fighters that you’re average Hooters “UFC Fan” aren’t able to pronounce.

And how come your posts are gold but not mine? :-(

by Krimson on May 24, 2010 2:50 PM EDT up reply actions

?? If it's "gold" then it means it's a new comment and you haven't marked it as read.

If you mean “gold” as in you think my comments are great….you’re welcome. ;)

I don't see how this would be a bigger victory than Vera

I know hardcore fans love this guy, but Vera was a legit UFC contender at heavyweight and a serious challenge at LHW. There is no way to see this fight as anything other than a step down.

Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.

by Dave Strummer on May 24, 2010 4:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Matyushenko is a very solid fighter, but as a matchup, he’s going to get murdered by Jon. For all his good points, Vlad is not remotely quick enough. Jones will be all over him before he knows what hit him.

Finally. Someone with some sense.

by ManicPreacher on May 24, 2010 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Okami is coming off one of the best performances of his career that no one saw.

by Polyhedron on May 24, 2010 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Okami has improved his hands like 75%, Munoz isn’t going to know what hit him.

I wish I could pick Jones by smash, but the Janitor is really tough and well known as a granite chin grinder who never gives up and is always in the fight, and Jones is still green. I can’t help but smell upset here.

by SimplePsych on May 24, 2010 11:41 AM EDT reply actions

Jones isn't going to beat him with punches.

Yes. Yes he is. I like The Janitor, but this is a mismatch in skill really.

by ManicPreacher on May 24, 2010 12:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Might be a mismatch in skill...

…but not in terms of heart and soul. The Janitor has one of the best chins in MMA and probably the biggest heart.

by Jonathan. on May 24, 2010 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Again. Punches aren't necessary.

Really grooming Jon Jones

The UFC is really doing everything they can to groom Jon Jones into the next superstar at the level of GSP, and for good reason. Besides being wildly talented, he’s got a good head on his shoulders, and can eventually become a great ambassador for the sport. Headlining two, free, tv-aired cards in a row gets him a lot of main stream views, plus he about to break into main card PPV status (if he wins against the janitor). He’s the next GSP in terms of sponsorship and wide ranging media interaction.

by Cocytus on May 24, 2010 11:58 AM EDT reply actions

Almost 3 in a row I guess

Since Hamill vs. Jones was the “main attraction” but not the main event.

John Howard is going to finally lose

Dude has escaped defeat too many times in the UFC. Jake will kill him.

Okami Munoz and Stevenson Gomi are both more interesting fights, but they want to showcase Jon Jones killing somebody in under a round.

by TLow on May 24, 2010 12:16 PM EDT reply actions

Bones is quickly becoming a guy that I just can’t miss out on. Basically becoming a GSP except Bones is in that exciting rising up stage. GSP is already up there. I love this card, can’t wait to watch it.

by Dooda on May 24, 2010 12:20 PM EDT reply actions

I have to go with Okami to beat Munoz even though I am Filipino and want to see Munoz winning, but I am also a fan of Okami. Okami destroyed Linhares on the feet in his last fight, and I can imagine Okami showcasing more of that standup in this fight. I am going with Jones to beat The Janitor, but it could be an upset. I am curious to see how Gomi vs Stevenson goes. Gomi has better standup in my opinion, and I can see Stevenson trying to take Gomi down, but Gomi has good takedown defense. I am not a fan of John Howard because he ducked a fight against ANthony “Rumble” Johnson, so I am picking Ellenberger to beat him.

by chrisbboy82 on May 24, 2010 12:40 PM EDT reply actions

This was before they were scheduled to fight recently. Howard just came off his win over Chris Wilson, and he was supposed to fight Rumble a couple months after the Wilson fight, but Howard refused. Howard claimed it was money, but at that point in his UFC tenure, he wasn’t really in much of a position to be asking for much, and it really did seem like Howard was simply ducking Rumble especially since Rumble was in the middle of his win streak (this was before the Koscheck fight).

Who? Jon Jones!! Who? Jon Jones!! Who? Jon Jones!!

I guess i’m not totally on board on the Jones train yet, because i’m giving The Janitor a good chance to pull the upset. Mat is a guy who’s only lost to top fighters for the large part of his career, Jones isn’t just going to walk through him like most here are claiming this will be a real test for him imo.

you know the janitor is almost forty, right?

and has super stubby arms relative to the Mr. Fantasticesque reach of Jones.
