Quotes of the Day: Mariusz Pudzianowski Blames Conditioning, Tim Sylvia Considers Himself "Something of a Legend in MMA"
"I knew I could possibly prolong the fight for a little bit longer, but because of my conditioning, or lack of conditioning, I decided there was really no sense to do it, point to do it. The conditioning was by far the deciding factor for me in not continuing to fight."
Mariusz Pudzianowski per Sherdog.
"I consider myself something of a legend in MMA and I go out there and ... I see Polish guys screaming at and yelling his name. Fortunately the fight went the way I wanted it to go. ... He went a minute 15 seconds longer than I thought he was going to."
Tim Sylvia per Sherdog.

Ugh
The last thing Tim Silvia need is a cocky attitude. It’s sad enough for him to go out in public without a shirt on, now he’s a self-proclaimed legend.
He did ok when the UFC HW’s were all soup cans. His most impressive accomplishment is not actually dying when he lost to Fedor.
I’m soooooooooooo tired of this guy getting press. Ship him and Barnett off to some far away planet. That way they can sit around and tell eachother how important they are.

Let’s not lump him in with Barnett, the quote is a bit silly but Tim has tested positive once and admitted to his mistake, Barnett has done it three times and still won’t admit to any wrongdoing.

Seriously
I wish he wouldn’t turn down decent fights. Maybe now he’ll be reinvigorated and cut some damn weight.

I agree with Sylvia on this
I just can’t decide if the Fyodor fight or the Mercer fight is more legendary.

Jose Canseco is also legendary but maybe that isn’t always a good thing. Maybe instead waxing poetically about being legendary Tim should work on just being good again so he can get his career back on track.

He thought he was the man and a badass who could steamroll everyone. He probably realized he was in deep sh*t two weeks ago when his tune-up fight went badly.

with a body like Pudz, probably no amount of conditioning work would result in acceptable cardio.

This
His body requires too much oxygen. He’s pretty much relegated to training like a fighter and not like a weightlifter (if he plans on seriously pursuing the fight game), so that his body transforms and he gets rid of some of that muscleman bulk.

Exactly
But I don’t see him doing that though. He’s invested 20 years of his life towards turning his body into one Singular Muscle. Plus, peep his diet.
Breakfast – 10 eggs, 2-3lbs. bacon
Mid morning – several 3 Musketeers or Snickers bars
Lunch – 2 meals of Polish pork chops, sauerkraut and potatoes
One hour later- amino acids, vitamins and other supplements and chocolate
Dinner – meat, sauerkraut, potatoes
Midnight – protein shake, chocolate
3 or 4am – chocolate

@deowade
The fact that he needs chocolate for extra energy shows you that their is no way he can keep up the cardio for an MMA match haha

His cornermen should be feeding him twinkies wrapped in bacon and smothered in white gravy between rounds.
take all that, throw it in a pot, add some broth, baby you got a stew goin!

Yes but strangely enough
Have you ever tried to do any kind of “worlds strongest man” stuff before?. I can spar and roll 5-8 rounds in a day with few breaks no problem. But I have attempted some of the stuff they do on those competitions, dead lifting, adding weight as you go, flipping over big poles and carrying heavy, awkward objects through obstacle courses, let me tell you I was dusted quick!, I don’t know how those big guys do that really.
doing anything you’re not accustomed to will get you tired.
take golf. plenty of people who are otherwise in terrible physical shape do it no problem. but grab a good athlete who doesn’t play golf and make them walk 18 holes carrying their clubs. 5 hours later they’ll be wiped out… until they’ve done it a few times.

Yeah man, I agree
I have friends who lift for looks/strength and can bench quite a bit more than I can. As far as physical training goes, I train cardio, don’t lift max-weight, and build core body strength— more for fitness than cosmetics. Different worlds, for sure.

“I consider myself something of a legend in MMA”
This is exactly why people hate Tim Sylvia. He has ridiculous delusions of grandeur. He’s a well known name for sure, but a legend is stretching it. With that said, I would like to see Arlovski vs Sylvia IV in Strikeforce though.
Lemonade was a popular drink, and it still is. I get more stunts and props than Bruce Willis- Guru
“Some kind of a legend.”
- I don’t know, I dont think Sylvia actually prolaims that he is a LEGEND but rather as someone who was once important in the sport in which I agree with. If he was so confident, he could have said it with out the “some kind” phrase. It was more of a lack of a better term.
I am neutral when it comes to Sylvia, neither hate or love him. But something in me still wants him to get his career back, or atleast fight decent opponents. Though I wouldnt be sad if he wont get his mind into it. Im glad that he won this and wasnt humiliated.

Hmmmm... So barnett and Silvia have tested positive for anabolics...
And Overeem, Lesnar, GSP, Thaigo Alves, etc, haven’t.
Well that isn’t exactly the kind of advertisement a steroid dealer wants, now is it? A couple of chubby slobs cheat to achieve a flubby figure and a reputation of being mid-tier.
Awesome.

I havent seen Barnett nor Sylvia adversting any kind of steroids. Probably, those companies and its users couldn’t care anyless for these guys. FWIW, they were effective though.

It was just a joke
Because they are both fat, and the athletes in this sport that haven’t used, have much better physique.
I guess the humor was lost somewhere.
that haven’t used
That haven’t been caught.

I'm really not a fan of assuming the worst of people
I’d much rather condemn the ones who have been caught, over looking down on the ones who get a bad rap due to speculation.
Innocent until proven guilty, that sorta thing.

Potential Gatekeeper
If Tim gets back to the shape he was when he beat Arlovski the first time he may have an opportunity to become a gatekeeper or fodder to keep guys like JDS active. It’d be great to see him have an opportunity to fight Mir again, even though it’d probably end up in Timmay being subbed or KO’d by Uber-Mir.
Even though he did admit he was on the juice, he was one of the fighters who looked different when he was on it. Comparing Timmay 2003 to Timmay 2010 is like seeing “has beens” on shows like Celebrity Fit Club. It’s also sad to watch his match with RIcco and knowing how they both turned out 7 years later.
nobody is going to pay Sylvia the kind of money he makes/demands just to be a gatekeeper. he is in a tough place career wise and it’s hard to set him up in fights.

I would remember Tim Sylvia when he foughtin UFC, when he was its HW division. His misfortune against Mercer is something I consider as “shit happens” moment. He was a great fighter and my mind chooses to remember that.

Two delusional men, I demand a rematch!!
Tim, you are not a legend; just a former champ and not all former champs are legends. It takes more than having your name recognized by some.
Mariusz; sure..your conditioning sucked, but it’s your lack of fighting skills that is your biggest problem.
